1 Wooo, a field trip!

A dull ceiling, with lightly blue tinted walls and a floor littered with empty water bottles. Dirty clothes thrown in a corner with clean ones overflowing in a full basket. The room of a messy unpowered teenager.

A digital alarm had been going off for a full minute before a hand slammed down on it, turning it off.

"Marriott! Dude! Wake up," His younger brother had been shaking him, forcing Marriott awake. "Dad made some breakfast burritos and said that if you don't hurry up he'll eat yours."

Marriott woke up with a pounding headache, heavy sleeping bags underneath his eyes and an odd taste in his mouth. "Okay okay. I'm up," He said, waving his hand in the direction of his brother to shoo him off. "Get out of my room Felix, I gotta change."

A few minutes had passed before Marriott actually got up. A cold breeze in his room made his skin rise with goose bumps. A feeling of clarity washed over him. Marriott waddled over to a window, shutting it. "Well, the cold really woke me up."

Marriott changed his clothes, putting on a hoodie and some sweatpants he grabbed his backpack by the door and left his room. The smell of his Dad's breakfast burrito filled up their small house. As he left his room he passed Felix who ran towards their older sister's room. Shaking his head he continued to walk down the short hallway and turning, Marriott appeared in the living room.

"Is mom not eating with us?" Marriott asked as his father left the kitchen with a plate in his hand.

"Sadly not, she got called in for a work conference. Hopefully she buys some food on the way there, otherwise she's gonna be hungry." He said, a small frown forming on his face.

A slam could be heard echoing down the hallway, followed by a giggling Felix. Dad's face had turned into a smile as he knew Felix had annoyned Rose. Soon after, Felix came running down the hallway.

As Felix appeared, Dad had opened his arms ready for a hug. Grabbing Felix and lifting him up in the air. "Did you tell Rose to hurry up? Her food is gonna get cold soon."

"Yep! She said she's coming!" Felix responded, laughing as he got spun around. Moments after his response we could hear Rose coming down the hallway.

"Felix!" She yelled down the hallway. "You brat! Stop slamming my door."

Marriott laughed, "You really annoyed her this time, huh Felix?" Felix smiled a little bit and quickly bobbed his head up and down. Rose peeked her head around the hallway. Felix, please. Stop slamming doors," After saying this, she turned her head towards Marriott. "Hey. Mar. Did you tell dad about the field trip slip yet?"

Dad has raised an eyebrow after hearing this, "What about a field trip?" Marriott quickly finished his burrito before answering. After gulping it down he spoke, "Right so, you know how Rose is going on a hunting trip to an Rank F planet with her school?"

"Yes?" Dad responded, with an eye brow raised.

"Well, she's allowed to bring an extra person. So, if you sign this slip," Marriott said, searching his backpack. Pulling out a small white slip and passing it over to his dad. "I can go with. Since she's a year older she'd be my guardian for the trip."

His father sighed, then wrote something down on the slip. "Yes. You can go, You're gonna watch him, right Rose?"

Rose nodded reassuringly, "Of course, plus we're gonna be hunting with some adventurers. So we're gonna be safe."

Marriott glanced at Rose, with an expression that she interpreted to be a thank you. After grabbing and stuffing the slip in his backpack. Marriott stood up, gave his dad a hug and went back to his room to grab his shoes and phone. He then ran to the kitchen to grab some snacks out of the cupboard. Putting all of them in his bag for the trip.

"Okay, I'm heading out. See you at school Rose. Love you dad, love you Felix!" Marriott said, already half-way out the door. He left his yard and started his long walk to school.

Marriott's school was around 20 minutes away from his house on foot. He could've taken the bus, but he liked the little bit of exercise he got from walking to school.

As he continued on his way, his phone started to vibrate. "Oh, whoops. I was supposed to call Solana." Marriott said, quickly remembering as he picked up his phone. Unsurprisingly, it was Solana calling. As he answered her voice came yelling through the phone.

"You were supposed to call awhile ago! What the heck Marriott!" She said, clearly angry at him.

Marriott awkwardly laughed, trying to defuse the situation. "I know, I know. I was uh... I was stuck waiting for my brother in the shower." He said, stuttering as he lied to her.

"Sure... Anyways, did you get your permission slip signed? My older brother is taking me so we could probably hang out there together. I'll probably hunt more than you considering my skills are better than yours." She teased.

"Hunt more my a**, I'm gonna get twice the prey you do. Even if you do use your powers," He responded with a grin. "I'm about to reach the gate, talk to you in class!" Marriott hung up before she could say anything back. He thought it was funny.

He passed the school gate, and went inside the building. The bell ringing a few seconds before he got into his classroom. His teacher, Mrs. Hart smiled at him. "A tad bit late today aren't you Mr. Whitlock." She sat down at her computer and started the lesson.

The day streched on for Marriott, he had been wasting time in school. Simply waiting for the intercoms to come on and dismiss him to the gym so he could get ready for the trip.

Eventually, after he had finished lunch, he met up with Solana and the announcement for the trip came on. Calling a few names before reaching theirs. They raced each other to the gym, getting scolded by a teacher for running as they got to the gym doors. They laughed with each other as they entered. "Dude, that was such a bad idea. We should've slowed down." Solana said.

Marriott shrugged his shoulders, "Atleast I beat you," He said, laughing. "I gotta meet up with my sister. Meet you on the other side?" Both of them agreed to find each other when they had gone through the portal, splitting up to find their siblings.

Having found his sister, Marriott waited for the instructors to tell them to go. A few minutes passed and the portal zapped, opening itself up. Different shades of silver made up the portal, the mixture of different shades swirling around each other, it looked almost like liquids in a glass container being shaken up.

The speakers buzzed awake as a teacher turned on their microphone in the maintenance booth.

"Alright! Students please form lines, stand next to your assigned guardian and behind your instructors! You will receive more instructions on the planet! Stay close to your guardian, if anyone is reported missing when we come back, your guardian will be in trouble!"

After the instructions were said, lines of students marched into the silvery portal. We prepared to go in. "Your first hunt is gonna be a wild ride. You should probably pick out a melee weapon since anything that's ranged is pretty inaccurate if you can't wield it properly." Rose whispered to Marriott, both teaching him and trying to get him ready for the task ahead.

The people infront of Marriott started to move, it was finally their time to go through the portal. He had been near the back, so only as he got closer he started to see how big and complicated the portal looked. So many wires connecting to the outer frame.

He tried to think back to the lesson he received on portals, but was pushed ahead by the few people behind him. He put his hand infront of himself, it was absorbed by the portal, with the rest of him being sucked in.
