19 Who Am I?

Anna entered the study room with anxiety, she never once entered this place before. Only, Shane would enter the study room for official use. He sat down and gestured Anna to sit in the comfy chair. She sat opposite to Shane reluctantly looking around the place stuffed with stacks of books and the table congested with files and charts.

Facing Shane like a toddler who did a blunder mistake and waiting for punishment was the worst thing ever happened to her, "I am sorry! I know, I have been irresponsible. I will never be reckless again.0"

Her voice wavered as she was so anxious.

Shane shook his head, As expected as of Anna, always blaming herself for others misdeed. "I should be the one apologizing!" Shane denied making Anna's eyes pop out.

"Ahh... What?!"

"Anna! I am sorry for not paying enough attention to you and not returning the call" Shane admitted his mistake with a strange mixed emotion. He could not pinpoint how he felt right now. Is it the feeling of failing her?

"No, No... It is my fault. I should not have stepped out from the concert or least I should have informed you. It's my fault."

Shane breath out, "Let's not argue about it. The situation in Symonds corporation is hectic. I came all the way here to discuss it with you. How much do you know about the company's current issues?"

Anna gulped, 'He came back to discuss company matters. Symonds Corporation?! Oh my!! Will he judge me, if I tell him that I know nothing.'

Shane started losing his calm composure watching Anna's puzzled expression, "Anna! You should start reading the business news already. You should pay more attention to your own company. If you don't, then don't expect others to handle it for you."

She looked at him so troubled, "My company?! What are you talking about, Shane!"

He stood up from his chair and his lean fingers traced his forehead, "Anna! I thought you are much mature. I didn't expect this. Do you think that you have no responsibility for your company business? Irresponsible!"

Shane walked to the floor to ceiling window and he stood there domineeringly with his hands on his hip. After a minute of silence, he turned back to scrutinize the girl sitting with a lost look in her flushed cheeks, he let out a grimace before questioning her, "You know nothing, right? Nothing at all about the company or the competitors"

"I am sorry, Shane!" Anna's eyes started to sting.

"I am sorry! I am sorry! I am tired of hearing this from you, Anna!" His tone was never this harsh to anyone before. In the recent days, his shoulders was weighing with a guilt about his indifference towards their marriage relationship, and slowly his guilt turned into a hate.

He marched in a large stride towards the table where Anna was seated, he opened the drawer and took a file out and threw it on the table. "Now, read this. Read each page without missing a punctuation. These all are the information of your company and the investment of Symonds corporation.

You need to remember each and everything of this document when you get out of this room, did you get me? And don't you dare to roam around in public, there are people hunting for you and I am tired of protecting you."

Anna dazed out, "Hunting for me?"

"Yes, Anna! You are one of the successors of Symonds corporation, What do you expect? Once your Grandmother Will is presented to the public. We would know the future successor who will have the potential to become a CEO of the company. You are the number one canditate who stand as a threat to many."

Anna stared at him in fright with her brilliant blue eyes which resembled a bright sapphire, "Ohh... Is that why? Is that why people are chasing me, and those guards are always trailing behind me, is that all because of them?"

"Shane?! Was there more I don't know about?" Though Anna asked this question, the answer she was expecting was not the one Shane answered.

Shane smiled weakly. This was the topic that he was avoiding for months, "Yes, Anna! There is one more thing, I need to tell you."

Anna's eyes stayed on him, never once leaving him, "Tell me."

"Anna! Do you still remember that, on our marriage date, I asked for your help?" Shane lingered on his final words. Is it actually a help?

Anna recalled that day which was still shining like daylight in her memory, 'You just need a marriage certificate to end your miseries and I promise to give you one today… Anna!! In return, I need your help which I will let you know later, this is not the right time to discuss'.

What does he need from me? What on earth I have to give it to him?

She replied, "Yes, I remember!"

Shane breathed out heavily, Anna felt something was not right about the way he was reacting.
