Twisted Visions

The room was almost completely surrounded by darkness, the candle on the desk had long burned away dripping wax onto the papers sprawled under it. The documents messily covered an ornate wooden desk which had two dragons holding a shield embedded into the front of it, seeming to be made of gold with silver highlights, next to the now set remains of the candle was a clear orb upon a marble stand, hovering over it a man whose long dark hair covered his face, he was resting his head on two hands as if nursing a headache. The four grand bookshelves behind him looked like they had been the victim of a hurricane, books had been ripped off with a determined urgency. The man at the desk spoke in a voice that was filled with uncertainty yet it somehow still demanded respect.

"I don't know why this will happen but you need to implement your plan for the scorned races," the figure sat at the desk said to someone hidden in the corner of the room.

"I mean you know I want to bring them into the program, but you know it could cause issues with the nobles, it could even lead to a rebellion eventually." the second man replied in a soothing and gentle voice.

"A broken kingdom can be rebuilt, a destroyed one cannot be." the first man responded. "A demon and a sentient undead will come here two moons from today, you need to accept them. Find some more of the repressed races to join them so they cannot be targeted as easily, we will be doomed if they have an accident."

"My friend I don't understand why they are important enough that you would ask me to protect them, surely your armies can defend the lands from whatever will be coming and adventurers will be nowhere near as helpful, they tend not to have the same… professionalism." the second man said as he walked towards the desk, the cloak that he wore flowing behind him due to his quickened steps.

"Place your hands upon the orb and I will show you what the gods made me see" the onyx haired man said, his head rising slightly. In the darkness the only thing that could be seen where a set of bright emerald eyes as his eyes seeked for his friends. The cloaked figure placed both his hands on the orb. As he did so the emerald eyes looking at him were suddenly replaced with black eyes with green dancing flames that pulled him in like the harshest of waves.

The second man's hood was blown back in the hellish scene he found himself in, his long platinum hair blowing behind him. The man appeared to be in his late twenties and his turquoise eyes were filled with horror, the scene before him seemed to be the burning of the capital. The first thing he noticed was that his academy had been reduced to rubble and the remains were burning, teachers were fighting beasts of pure horror, they were almost humanoid but terribly mutated, some had extra clawed or scythed limbs, some had heads growing or even random mouths or eyes covering their body. As his eyes swept around he saw himself in dented and ash covered armour fighting besides some adventurers. In horror he carried on looking until he saw the king surrounded, he was cutting down beasts but his personal Sciath, those who would sacrifice their lives to protect their king lay dead or injured. Then as the king was about to be surrounded the fallen abominations all around him started to arise, surrounded by a weird green magic as their eyes began to glow green, until they turned upon their own kind with a hair raising scream.

The king stood shocked for a few minutes until two large shadows flew overhead, and from one of them fell what seemed to be a Knight in black armour, the armour was decorated by a bronze skull and bronze ribs upon the torso, and in his hands he held a weapon which was a odd mix of a scythe and a claymore which he used to cut down any of the abominations that slipped through the risen ones. He yelled something to the king which was lost in the sounds of flames and screams, before he started to lead the king towards the group of surviving adventurers. A large beast that stood over twenty feet tall stood before them, it stood upon four large trunk-like legs which at the bottom became giant human-like hands. From its back grew four long tentacles that grew into scythe-like appendages, and all down its throat were constant sets of mouths. Its four bladed tentacles went to move forwards before the giant beast froze however before it could strike, and then fell upon its back a figure with draconic fashioned armour roze, pulling a ornate black and silver spear from the beast. The horns, wings and tail that came out of the armour gave way that this man was of demon blood.

The king nodded at them both before getting to the group they had been leading him towards, however in unison both of his saviours turned to something in the distance, as shadows began to cover everything.

The man with turquoise eyes reeled back and stood back from the orb with horror, a look of shock and terror covering his face as he looked towards his friend who had gone back to nursing his headache. "This is the future we have to stop?"

"No, that's the future we have to make happen." the first man stated bluntly.

"I don't understand that vision was horrifying, I don't even know what those abominations were." the headmaster said,

"Nor do I, I have gone through every book I have, they are not beasts of any realm I have been able to find so far, so my mind tells me they are from the void. And that vision was the best I have had. Visions without those two end up in the world being devoured by those things, the world itself becomes a black mutated mess and seems to become a much larger version of the invading monsters."

"Well. Fuck." was all that escaped the headmaster's mouth for a little while before he sighed "Well I best ensure they survive the academy then, and you need to find a subtle way to give them the funding to grow after they leave the academy my friend." The headmaster stated, he turned and left the overly decorated office with one last look over his shoulder to the weary and exhausted looking man and gave him a smile. "Don't worry old friend, at least it isn't our job to save the world this time."

The first figure's laughter could be heard from the office as the door closed behind the headmaster, once again covering the room in darkness.
