9 Chapter 8

Our eyes look at each other straight, glaring at one other while we both watch our every move, cautiously and nervously. Our gaze locked, not wanting to look away from each other, especially me. The porcelain girl has once again shown herself from afar while Ace and I dined in a diner. No one notices her or maybe they do but they just ignored how weird and chilling the girl actually is. I don't want to be scared nor be paranoid for all of the things that's been happening lately because I just wanted a normal life after we moved here but I'm not so sure my life is normal now anyway.

I didn't bother to tell Ace about her because it's my business and he has nothing do to with my problem. Ace continued eating while I watch her every single move without taking a bite off my food.

She moves up her mask to show me her mouth. I frowned and my glare soften once I saw a fresh looking cut on her lips. They looked like someone just did that to her before she showed herself to me, the cut if very large but thin, there's some blood scattered on her lips and cheeks. The cut is all the way to her philtrum and down to her lips and chin and that made me genuinely feel sad about that and wondered what possibly happened to her. She gave me a bone-chilling smile without showing her teeth and she put her index finger over her lips, indicating for me to be quiet and keep what I saw a secret.

She fixed her mask and disappears from nowhere while my eyes keep searching for her but I couldn't longer see her. What happened to her? Was she just trying to warn me about something or she's just an insane person?

"Luna, you should taste this, seriously! They make the best steak!" Ace cuts me off from my thoughts with his annoying voice. I looked at him, silently thanking him for suddenly speaking even if his voice is annoying as fuck.

"What?" I asked like a completely clueless person, trying to process what's happening around me.

He pushed his plate towards my plate making then clang together and he grins. "I said you should taste this steak, they are seriously the best."

I nodded while licking my lips and distracting myself by listening to him, talking. With a shaky hand, I grab my fork on my plate and I tried keeping it steady before Ace can notice it but I couldn't because my hands are shaking from fear of what's going to happen to me. I don't know what will happen and if it will continue to be terrifying.

Ace held my hand but I just moved my hand away from him. "I'm fine."

Ace continued smiling but he grabs my hand again, tighter this time and I looked at him with furrowed brows and fear in the eyes.

He leans closer and whispered: "You're not fine, I know it. Let me help you calm you down because we can't risk the fact that you look so frightened and people might look at you weirdly. I promise you I'll explain once the time has come."

Then he just intertwined our fingers together while he just continues eating and I looked at him like he's crazy. What does he know that I don't know? Why can't this town be normal for once?

He rubs my hand while I looked down at my food, not having the appetite to eat but I just did anyway because I don't like wasting food. Without letting a few more seconds pass, I removed my hand from his, not finding his words comforting or reassuring and I don't want to be misled by his sudden sweet gesture. Ace glanced at me with pain in the eyes but in a second it disappears and he just let me be.

"Ace, I'm sorry." I apologized to him, feeling so guilty of my own actions but I just can't help being like this because I honestly don't like someone touching me without making sure that I want them to.

He just ignored me and continues chewing his food. We both ate in complete awkward silence and without waiting for me to finish my own food, he suddenly stands up and left some bills on the table.

"Look, " He sighed. "I have to get going now but I'll pay for the meal."

"Ac-"

"Just stop, please. I'll...I'll go." He cuts me off before he walks away with a fake smile plastered on his face.

I sighed and buried my face into my hands, not knowing what to do exactly because I've never been so confused about my life before, not like this and I don't know what to do. I am frightened, confused, and a million thoughts are going in my head because everything is so weird and nobody has the guts to tell me what's happening.

I just proceeded in fishing what's left of my food and I pulled out extra cash for a tip and I quickly leave the store.

I got on the car and I make sure to drive home carefully and safely to avoid having anymore accidents or dangerously, stupid acts from myself. After I got home, Matt comes down the stairs and hugged me while I hugged him back.

Matt is clearly an exception. Because I look at him like he's my child and my brother too, I think he deserves all the love that I can give to him because I care for him a lot. He is my exception and I liked hugging him too. He relaxes me in a way nobody does.

Matt helped me carrying his things and he walks upstairs while I go to the kitchen with a large box of pizza on my hand. I put it down on the table while I look at mom who is smiling at me and thanked me for buying.

"It's no problem mom." I said to her with a small smile. I left the kitchen and head upstairs because all I want to do right now is to sleep beside Matt while embracing him with my arms.

The rest of the night went by quickly and I didn't get off my bed. Matt and I are laying down on my bed while hugging each other.

"Matt, how have you been today? Have you made some progress?" I softly asked him while he looks up at me with his sapphire eyes.

"Today is fun. Your family is nice even Kai had warmed up to me too. But Luna, I don't want you to stop calling me sapphire. I really like that name you gave me."

I stilled at him and nodded. "Sure, sapphire. Let's sleep now. Goodnight."

"Good night, Luna." We closed our eyes and let ourselves be drifted away from the real terrifying reality.
