11 Chapter X

Athena's POV:

"It's the other group isn't it? The other gods?" I whisper.

"Yes." Hestia whispers back.

They all stand there in their godly forms. I immediatly recognized Oizys. She was hard to miss actually. She has shoulder-length hair that is pitch black. At this moment she's wearing a long black dress. The wind plays with her dress and her hair.

Next to her was Iris. Beautiful girl really. Auburn hair that wavered down her back. She has slight curls and a sweet face. Not really the kind of girl that would hang out with someone like Oizys.

Out of all these gods she was the one I least expected to reject us and go with them.

Part of me still didn't understand why they'd rip themselves apart from us.

But I suppose everyone has something else to believe in. Even Gods.

Oizys was yelling at three old women. One was playing with a messuring tape. Another was wrapping a thread around her hands and fingers and then unwound it. The third messed around with a pair of scissors.

"What are they doing with those things in their hands?" Skyler asked me.

"They're the fates. Those are their attributes." I reply.

"As for what they do with it, they measure and cut the tread of life and weave it into the tapestry of faith." Hestia replied with the voice of the young boy.

In my head I heard Skyler gulp.

"I wonder why Oizys is so mad.." Hestia pondered.

"Most interesting indeed.." I joined in.

Skyler's POV:

There was three more people standing right there. One man who looked rather bored. He seemed middle-aged and had quite the beer belly. He was wearing a purple shirt and Bermuda shorts. He seemed rather bored.

"Who is he?" I asked Athena.

"Dionysus." She replied without hesitation.

She said it as if it was super obvious.

"And the those other three people?"

"I don't know. They're in their mortals form and I can't see their eyes."

Sunddenly the yelling stopped. I-.. Well.. Athena locked eyes with Oizys.

Athena reacted faster than I could think. She grabbed Hestia by her shoulder and pulled her around the corner.

"Hestia what is happening?" asked the boy within the goddess.

His voice is shaking a bit.

Athena covers Hestia's mouth with her hand. I can see the fear of the boy in Hestia's eyes.

As Athena quickly prays to a goddess that is apparently named Tyche, the only sound I hear is the steps of someone coming closer.

I hold my breath even though I am not in control of my.. Errr.. Athena's body.

"Oizys what are you doing? We are in the middle of something here!" says the nagging voice of an old lady.

"Shut up Persephone.. I saw someone."

"Like who?" a lazy voice asked.

"Like someone who disappeared years ago."

"Then how are they here?" a third high pitched voice asked.

"I don't know but can you all shut the hell up?!"

The footsteps stopped. I saw a tear roll down Hestia's cheek.

Oizys rounded the corner.

"RUN!!!" Athena yelled.

She grabbed Hestia's wrist and pulled her along. When Hestia caught up she let go as we sprinted down the ally.

Oizys reacted just as fast. She was right behind us. A smug smirk on her face. A little behind her were the people she was standing with.

"We can't let her follow us to the base. They're already way to close. And the others can't see them either, they might wonder why they're all of a sudden behind us." Hestia said while running.

I could tell Athena was thinking hard.

"Skyler, how far is she behind us?" she asked me.

"Not far enough.." I replied.

Athena cursed in a language I didn't understand. But I assumed it was Greek.

We ran into another ally.

"Skyler look ahead for anything I could easily move, without losing to much time or ground." Athena commanded.

"Like what?" I asked.

"I don't know. Anything." she said.

I looked ahead, but had no idea of Athena's strength and speed in any way. I also had no idea of what she considered the right thing.

"How about those trashcans over there?" The voice of the little boy suggested.

"Yes, great idea Sam!" Hestia replied.

"At least someone who listened.." Athena mumbled.

I tried not to feel hurt by the comment.

Athena turned to Hestia.

"Sprint ahead I'm right behind you."

"B-but.."

Hestia wanted to argue, but Athena cut her of with a look.

"Trust me."

Hestia's POV:

"Trust me." Athena said.

My heart dropped. Last time she said that she disappeared for a century.

But I knew better then to stop and argue with her.

"Just don't leave again." I mumbled as I sprinted past the trashcans.

I kept running. Behind me I heard Athena stop for a brief second. Then a bunch of noise and cursing. I wanted to stop running and check on Athena when I heard her voice behind me.

"Keep running. This will only keep them busy for so long."

I was relieved to hear her voice again. I clutched my dagger tighter as we weaved through the streets.

I felt Athena pull me into a random dark corner and she put a hand over my mouth. I could feel Sam was about to freak out. I tried to reason with him.

'Athena knows what she does Sam. Everything will be fine. She knows how to get away from these people.' I think, knowing he'll hear me.

'But you don't trust her I can feel it. She scares me. Everything about her is scary.' he responds.

'I know. Sometimes she scares me too. But she really is here to help.'

'You promise?'

'Yes..' I say.

I pray he didn't feel the hesitation I did.

Footsteps run by and I look up at Athena. Her eyes are focused on the people running by.

My niece looks exactly like I remembered her. Dark hair, sharp facial features she got from her father, muscled and sporty.

And then there were those eyes. Fierce, cold and dark. I could see why Sam was afraid.

She finally let go of me and her muscles relaxed a bit.

"They're gone. For now."

I felt Sam's tears roll over my cheeks.

"Are you okay?" The voice came from Athena, but it didn't belong to her.

I assume it came from the mortal she shares with.

"Yes I'm fine, but Sam is very shaken up over the whole experience." I reply.

"Hestia? Can I be me again?" Sam asked.

I nodded and morphed back.

Skyler's POV:

After Sam morphed back Athena did the same. My body became warm and I shifted back in control.

In front of me stood the young boy crying. I felt like I had to do something.

"Sam?" I asked making him look up.

I saw pure fear. I tried to come closer, but he took a step back.

"It's okay Sam. They're not the same." Hestia said.

Again he looked at me. The calm and collected boy from by the fire was gone.

I didn't know what Hestia meant by what she said. But I tried working with it.

"Yeah, I'm.. Not her. Not now. Just like you are you again."

He needed to calm down. He needed someone to hold him. I could tell.

"We should head back. Oizys and her friends will have noticed by now that we didn't run that way." Athena said.

Hearing her voice made Sam step back again. So that's why he didn't trust me. He was afraid of Athena.

"I know, but he needs help first, so keep quiet." I said to Athena.

"Excu-.." She started.

I raised my brows, knowing fully well she could see my expression.

She made me sigh, but she kept her mouth shut.

"She's gone now." I said to Sam.

Athena felt to need to prove me wrong. She sent a sharp stinging pain in my right shoulder and my headache was getting harder to ignore.

I stiffled a scream and bit the inside of my cheek. I was not letting her get the upper hand here.

"Hestia? Can I trust her?" Sam asked.

Hestia made Sam smile.

"Yes you can darling." she replied.

Sam walked closer and I wrapped him in a hug. I could tell he really needed it cause he gripped my neck tight.

"What's your name?" Hestia asked.

"Skyler." I answered.

"Thank you Skyler." The combined voice of Hestia and Sam said.
