6 A Chance of Rain

The ambulance was there within twenty minutes, lifting Sarah out of the second-floor apartment by stretcher. Derek pulled up in his red 89' Mustang when he noticed them and he stepped out of the car quickly. Derek shut the door behind him before breaking into a jog as the paramedics came down the steps.

Seeing Sarah strapped to the stretcher didn't surprise him but Selene, Bea and Cameron stood out the front door watching her go down. "Fuck." Derek cussed, looking behind him as he knew Lex would pull up any minute now.

Lex pulled up next to Derek and slammed the car into park as he jumped out. He looked at the girls by the door before going to Sarah's side. "Can I ride with you guys?" Lex asked the paramedics.

"It'd be better if you met us at the hospital. It'll be a tight fit." The EMT said. It was irritating, but the EMT didn't care if the kid persisted. He didn't want to answer a bunch of Lex's questions as they attended to Sarah on the way down to the ER room.

Lex peered at Sarah. "Is- Do you know if she's going to be okay?"

"He's got all her contact information." Derek came up behind Lex to back Lex up to the best of his ability. "If you take him to the hospital with you, he can give you all her information and contact her family." It was a try. Derek only hoped they'd let Lex go. Someone had to go with Sarah.

One paramedic took a glance at his co-worker and shook his head, pushing her into the ambulance as he loaded her up. The paramedic had no intention to answer again. He'd leave it to his co-worker to give the final say, though.

The second EMT sighed. "Alright, just don't get in the way." Both EMTs finished loading Sarah up onto the ambulance.

Lex glanced at Derek. "I'll keep you guys posted, alright?" Lex hurried and jumped in after them.

"I trust you," Derek told him. He held his hand out. "I'll take Selene's keys back up to her. Just make sure if- If anything happens, you call us if it's bad."

Lex tossed Derek the keys before they closed the doors.

Selene stared down at the bottom of the steps at them all and she felt her chin quiver. Cameron was rubbing her back slowly, making circling motions. Selene pulled one hand up from the railing and rubbed the tears from her eyes. "Sarah, please don't die." Selene hoped bringing her back to the apartment instead of taking her to the hospital didn't doom her roommate to some crippling fate.

"Sara will be alright," Cameron said, but it was more hope than anything else. When Bea turned and went back inside, Cameron turned her head to watch her go. She felt worse seeing Bea leave, unable to support their hope, but Bea wasn't as socially open about these things.

"I'm gonna go home." Selene sighed weakly, blinking the tears back before she lifted her head to stare up at the sky. It was cloudy now, overcast skies with the patches of lights slowly covering up. The first drop of rain hit her nose and before long many others followed after.

It rained all the way home after that. Cameron tried to convince her to stay, but no matter how her words lingered in her mind, Selene couldn't do it.

Her stomach was in knots the whole drive home and she leaned her head against the steering wheel at the last stoplight before the turn onto Pike Road when she cried. It was hard seeing straight as she lifted her head after hearing the driver blaring their horn at her from behind to go. In a blind rush, she hit the gas to go forward as someone tried to swipe an illegal turn and she swerved the car almost off the road.

Her hands trembled. Selene was in a panic almost after getting back on the road as she drove home, and her body was trembling with shock from the near accident. "Damnit!" She slammed the door shut behind her when she'd finally arrived at the complex. She was quick, running upstairs while trying to peer through tear-filled eyes when she got up to her floor.

She could hear her phone buzz with a message, but she didn't want to read it. She wanted to be left alone. She wanted everything to go away for a little while. Just like last time, when she woke up in the hospital. Alone.

Dread gripped her when she ran past the new neighbor's house and unlocked her door. When it shut behind her, the shelves rattled.

Sorin looked up from the map, blinking a few times. "What was that?"

Roku looked up and frowned. "I don't know." He knew it was Selene, and part of him longed to go to her and see what was wrong.

"The neighbor sure is loud," Sorin sighed. She got up, walking to the fridge to open the door and look into it. "Well, whatever. Hey, Roku? Wanna go pick up some takeout?"

"Yeah. What do you want?" he asked.

"Beef Teriyaki," Sorin told him, leaning back against the counter as she turned to look at Roku carefully. "From anywhere. I literally don't care as long as it's good and they give me fried rice." She slapped down a few bills on the counter. "Get whatever you want. I'm buying since you're carrying."

Roku took the cash and stuffed it in his pocket. "Alright. I'll be back." He walked out and closed the door firmly behind him. What did he want to eat? Not Teriyaki… He wanted something spicy.

Selene curled over her phone, laying on the beat up hand-me-down couch as she texted Dean back. "What do you mean come over? Right now?"

Yeah. Can you?"

"Well…" She backtracked, erasing the message.

"Can I give you my address instead?"

"That works too."

"Yeah… Um, here. XXX 36th Ave S, XXXXXX WA. Just knock. I'll be out ASAP."

"See you soon :)"

Selene blushed at the smiley face, looking away. "What's up with that?" She breathed, hugging the phone to her chest a moment before sitting up off the couch. The apartment was pitch black. She hadn't turned any lights on and ended up texting Dean for a few hours. Who would have guessed he would have caught her on her way up the stairs?

Selene shook her head, smiling a little to herself. She felt a bit more special that things weren't a complete and total wreck.

Dean was excited to see her. He walked up the stairs to her apartment and knocked. He smoothed his hair back, trying to look collected and not so anxious.

Selene jumped, fumbling with her phone before it hit the floor, and she scrambled up from the couch. "Shit." She ran around it, falling before catching herself on the couch. She kicked the coffee table, yelling some obscenity before grabbing her foot as she stepped around it quickly and felt the wall for the light switch. Once the hall light was on, she walked up to the front door and peered through it before opening it quickly. "H-Hey," she breathed, opening the door more for him.

He heard the commotion before she opened the door, and he grinned. "You alright?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She told him, propping herself up against the frame to try to act casual. "I um, just dropped my phone is all. Startled me… Didn't think you um… lived so close."

He stepped closer to her before stepping inside her apartment. "You live by yourself?" he asked looking around.

"No," Selene told him, wondering if she should say anything about her roommate. "It's me and my roommate." She told him, letting him inside. She shut the door behind Dean slowly, her heart was thundering in her chest.

Who's your roommate? Are they here?" He looked around. It didn't look like anyone was here, but it also hardly looked like she'd been here with most of the lights being out.

"She's in the hospital to be honest," she told him slowly, walking past him to flick on the kitchen lights. "She left just today actually to go there."

"Is she alright?" He asked, showing some genuine concern.

"Honestly, I don't know. I called 9-1-1 after she fainted in front of me. I-I panicked." Selene held herself as she leaned against the wall. "And then I kind of just came home after and I haven't heard anything since."

Dean frowned a little. "I'm sorry. I hope she's okay." He felt bad. It seemed like she'd had a rough night.

She shrugged, standing up to pace around the kitchen. "Me too, but honestly… I feel more uncomfortable thinking about it. So I'm just not really sure how to react. I'm hoping she'll be okay but at the same time, I'm worried that maybe things could have been worse. I don't want to talk about it anymore, though." She frowned, looking down at the tile. She felt the cold tile against her feet as she walked around the kitchen island with ease. Selene pulled her hands from behind her back as she turned to look at the cupboards. She opened them, laying out a few snacks. It was probably the first thing she'd eaten all day. She sighed, thinking a moment before she started to talk again. She didn't give much pause to let him talk before that, clearly too wound up about the whole ordeal.

As Selene pulled a tortilla from one of the bags and lifted it up to her mouth and took a bite. "So um," her heart pounded in her chest a bit, "about last night…" She felt her face grow a bit feverish. "I-I wanted to talk about that a b-bit."

He leaned against the kitchen counter and watched her. If the conversation about her roommate made her uncomfortable then he wasn't going to continue it. Her face lighting up like a christmas light had him wanting to laugh, but he just grinned instead. "Yeah? What about last night?"

Selene looked away, "I-I didn't do anything weird did- Did I?" She asked him, feeling her heart rise and fall waiting for his answer.

Oh this was fun. Seeing her squirm a little, not knowing what actually happened. "What do you remember?"

She stuffed her tunic down at the question and she squeezed her legs together. "I said some stuff I shouldn't have." She breathed, feeling her nerves rise. "And I- I tried to force myself on you." She covered her eyes. "I'm… I'm so sorry."

He laughed lightly. "You weren't that forceful, honestly." He would have loved to take advantage of it though. "I can't say I didn't enjoy it." He watched to gauge her reaction.

But he was admitting she was forceful. Her face burned hot with embarrassment. And he enjoyed it? Her mind paused on those words and she stopped herself. "You liked it?" She asked him. Her mind was trying to back up, thinking back to his reaction but all she could remember was his eyes staring up at her from her center.

"Wh-what ab-about your girlfriend? A-are you sure that it was okay? I barely know you except for a few classes we had together and-" Her mind was going a mile a minute, stammering and stumbling over his words. If it was true… if it was true- She stopped, staring at him a moment before she took another bite of the tortilla.

Selene tried to stuff another few bites in her mouth. She thought she'd been over zealous, possibly overstepping boundaries but she never guessed he'd be okay with it.

Dean just casually watched her as she got more nervous. She really didn't remember much at all. "I don't have a girlfriend, and yes. I did really like it." He reached over and took her hand so she didn't stuff her mouth again. "Why do you think I was so adamant that you message me when you were sober?"

"Oh," so he wasn't with anyone. Selene looked up at him, a curious expression crossed her features. "I-I don't know." She told him, her heart hammering in her chest. "I thought… maybe you uh… got a weird idea of me or something. I don't remember what all I said last night "

"I wanted to make sure you had the same feelings without being under the influence." He was a lot closer now. He did like her. She was adorable when she was all flustered. He enjoyed teasing her.

Selene stood up but he had her cornered. The fridge was behind her back as she leaned against it only to look up at him. "Same feelings? I mean… I…" What was she saying? "I like you Dean I just-"

He arched a brow at her. "Just?"

She blushed, caught on her own words repeated back at her. "J-just I'm…. I'm not anything like I was la-last night. I was drunk. And… I'm also like the worst person when it comes to dating and an emotional train wreck when it comes to sorting out my feelings." She looked away despite how close he was, feeling her hair tickled her cheeks as it swayed quickly.

Bleached blonde hair mixed with virgin brown hair made up the majority of her shoulder-length hair. Her bangs weren't pulled back out of her face as usual, giving her eyes a shadowed look even with the top of her head and it seemed like Dean took a moment to respond so Selene continued to talk.

"I'm not that confident in myself." She told Dean, looking up at him finally. "I don't want to disappoint you."

"Do you like me?" he asked simply. Surely she could answer that question.

"Of course I like you." She breathed, looking up at him. "But I want to still get to know you better. I mean… we've hardly talked." She couldn't help the rosy feeling on her cheeks thinking about the short times she'd had to talk with him.

"Then let's talk and get to know one another." He had that devilish grin that seemed to make him even more handsome.

"T-talk?" She stammered, her heart felt warm and almost chokingly sweet with the words she was hearing. "W-well… I-I guess what do you find attractive in other people?" Selene asked him, pushing her hair back behind her ear.

Would he stay so close now that he got his answer? She looked at her hand holding the tortilla before chewing at her lip a moment and looking at him.

Dean stepped back then and went back to leaning against the counter. "Honesty."

Selene could finally relax a little as he stepped back. "Honesty?" She asked him. Not exactly the answer she was expecting. She felt nervous for making such a shallow assumption of him before. "Yeah, I- I can agree with that." She relaxed more, stepping up to the counter to put the tortilla down.

"What about you? What do you find most attractive?" Dean watched her step to the counter. She was easing up a little bit.

Selene tried to narrow down her options, thinking about how her previous relationships had been and yet everything had been one disaster after another. "Well, honestly…" She sighed, "there's a lot of things that come to mind. When I think really hard about it, I think I'd just be happy with having someone commit to a relationship. Not really leaving me high and dry when things go South."

He nodded. That was fair. "You have experience with that I'm guessing."

"Uh," she wrapped her arms around herself as if to try to give herself comfort. "You could say that. I try not to let it be baggage, but I guess it doesn't always work in my favor." Being an insecure wreck being one of them.

She spoke like she'd been betrayed almost. "I can understand that." He wouldn't try to compare his past relationships to hers. This wasn't a contest to see who was hurt more.

"So um… I hear you work with computers a lot. It must take up a lot of time working on them. Or do you have free time pretty often?" Selene tried to keep the conversation from going flat. Honestly the awkward silence made her insecure.

"It depends. I kind of make my own hours. For now anyway." Dean looked around the apartment. "You're an artist aren't you? Do you have any originals hanging?" he asked, smiling.

Selene looked at him, then down, "I sold them." She told him, stepping around the corner. "Except for one." She walked over to her room, flicking the light on. Walking in, she opened her closet and the doors folded open like accordions before she rummaged through it to pull out a white sheet covering a painting.

Selene lifted it off to turn it to him. "It's the city in Japan. Where I used to live when I was going to school there. I was learning about digital artistry there and was part of a local traditional artist club." She smiled a bit at the memory.

The painting was unique, painting the city with people who seemed almost a blur as if in motion. The neon signs glowed brightly as the writing on the buildings advertised products left and right. At the side of it all was a boy, leaning against a lamp. His dark hair was ordinary, but the unnatural blue eyes pierced through almost as if they could stare through your soul. "Just this one felt different. I couldn't bring myself to sell it."

He looked at it and his eyes widened. He had no idea she was this good. "Woah." He stepped closer. He tilted his head seeing the boy. "Who's this?" He wondered if she knew, or if it was just part of the art.

"Honestly," she breathed, "it's someone I know. He was kind of mysterious. I liked him. A lot actually." She blushed a bit at the small bit of memories she had but his face felt unfamiliar in them. "It's the best memory I have of him but he sort of just showed up out of nowhere. He had really bright blue eyes that made him look somewhat ethereal in the night."

She looked down, "He helped me out a lot actually. I was having a rough time and he chased off some troublesome people I knew." She looked up at Dean. "But it feels like eons ago now. I haven't seen him in forever, but I imagine if I went back to Japan again. Seeing him standing in the light against all the traffic-" She shook her head. "That town was something. It was weird how it worked, how the people there worked. At night, it was a totally different place."

"Sounds like a pretty interesting place." He looked back to the painting.

"It was," she told him. Her smile faded a bit, "Would have been cool if I just had been a bit more mindful but my father got really worried about me after an accident, so he made me come home." She shrugged, throwing the blanket back over it. "It was another time, another life." She shrugged, pushing it back into the closet.

"Most of my art is digital now anyways. People don't buy paintings often, especially over here."

"That's a shame. There's something about having the physical painting that holds more meaning. I feel like, anyway." He pushed his hair back. "I've never been out of the U.S. though."

"I thought so too. Can't enjoy it if it's just really digital. It kind of takes a lot of the hand skill out but it's still it's own skill I guess." She shrugged. "I think digital is fun though but it doesn't have the texture…"

She listened to the last part but she didn't want to really talk about travel. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to just travel in general. She looked up at him, despite her feelings. "Would you travel if you could?"

"I've thought about it. I don't know where I'd really like to go though. I'm not a big fan of planes so Canada would probably be my best bet." He laughed.

"Ships?" She asked him. "It's fun. Promise." She told him.

He shook his head and laughed lightly. "Maybe if I could still see land. Being lost in the middle of a large body of water sounds almost as bad as being in the air."

"Oh come on," she laughed, flopping back onto her bed. "You can't say you're a bit curious? Do you go on rollercoasters? Just think of it as a longer, larger rollercoaster."

"I doubt that," he smiled at her. "Most roller coasters are done within a couple minutes. I don't think I would last on a ship for longer than that." Was he really so lame?

"Damn," she breathed, snapping her fingers as she stared up at him. This was relaxing, her mind felt at ease like this. It was better than earlier today.

Selene felt like her smile was contagious. She looked down at her hands. "Well, maybe a trip to Niagara Falls?" She asked him.

He smiled. "I think I could handle that." His smile was a bit shy then.

"You'd seriously go with me?" She asked him, surprised. She liked that smile on his face, it made her feel a bit excited. "I'd love that so much." Selene rocked forward, looking down at the floor as she ran her socks over it.

"I would. You can't make fun of me though if I chicken out." He grinned. He liked how excited she was.

"I won't," she held up her pinky. "But if you chicken out, you owe me. Yeah?" He was pretty sweet.

How cute. He locked his pinky with hers. "Deal."

"You don't even know what I'd ask for? No questions? What if I was the devil?" She snickered, looking up at him.

He laughed a bit harder at that. "If the devil was as cute as you, I'd be in trouble."

Selene felt her cheeks become more rosey and they certainly revealed her freckles a bit clearer in the warm light. "I'm cute?" She asked him, putting her hand to her chest.

"Like you don't know," he rolled his eyes playfully.

"Pfft- Hahaha," she looked up at him. "You're pretty bold." She scrunched her nose, pulling her arms around herself. She looked down a moment and then back up to him. Damn he was something to see though. She licked her lips nervously. Selene felt her toes curling in as her hand gripped her leg a little tighter and she wondered if maybe this was the right moment.

"Hey, Dean?" Her gaze floated up to him after a few glances from side to side. "Um." She paused, looking down again. She tucked her hair back out of the way before glancing up at him again, letting her tongue glide over her lip slowly. "You're uh… pretty nice to talk to as well, you know? And uh… kind of handsome." She shifted her shoulder up, turning her head down into it.

He wondered if she was going to ask finally. He almost interrupted her to tease her about her calling him handsome, but he didn't want to discourage her from continuing. She was such a nervous little thing. She reminded him of a bunny.

"You can sit next to me," she smirked. "You're- You're pretty comfortable to be around." She let her legs free of her grasp, letting them stretch out to the floor as she sat up in her bed. She scooted off to the side a little for him. She felt herself almost fidget excitedly at sharing closer quarters with him but the thrill of the idea somewhat excited her.

He sat down next to her and leaned back on his elbows to watch her. "I feel the same. It's relaxing hanging out with you."

She couldn't help but smile a bit more. "Yeah, I guess we do." It felt special for some reason or maybe it was just her overwhelming crush on him that made her feel a little airy, like she was being gently glided through some sort of therapy session except it wasn't as awkward.

"You umm…" She looked up at him. "You never really told me what we were doing last night." She told him. Selene watched him sit back. "What made you want to give me your number?"

"Well, We were very close to having sex actually." He remembered going down on her and the thought had him growing half hard. "I didn't want it to end on an almost one night stand. You're adorable and I wanted to get to know you more."

She thought as much. Selene tried to hide the fever of embarrassment but it was better to be known than imagined. He could have done it. She wouldn't have remembered much but instead he wanted to get to know her.

"You're pretty chivalrous." She looked at him. "I didn't think I'd get that out of you. I must have said something weird, definitely then." She put her fist in front of her lips. "But even still… Man," she laughed, "I guess I drank a lot of liquid courage." She shook her head, but she liked the thought of him wanting more. It made her feel good but it also made the allure of that night feel a little more regretful. Had she been sober enough, he might have...

"You were pretty drunk. I figured it would be better to wait til you were more sober." He wasn't a complete ass. Well not to her anyway.

"Thanks for that," she breathed. She looked down, "So… Yeah, I'm sober now." She looked up at him and couldn't suppress a small grin. "It's terrible, I know. I-" She shook her head quickly, pulling her arm up onto her knee as she lowered her head. She peeked over her arm at him. "I'm bad at this. Sorry." She laughed.

His eyebrows rose to his hairline as she continued. He heard that right, right? He wasn't going to let her hide though. He reached over and tucked her hair behind her ear before grabbing her chin to have her look at him. "Just tell me what you want." He had an inviting smile.

"You're going to make me seriously say it?" She asked him, raising a brow. She chewed at her lip, trying to muster what courage she had. Right as she closed her eyes, she sighed as she opened her eyes to look at him. "I want to continue last night, i-if that's okay." Her voice felt a little hoarse at the end, choking out the words but she wasn't entirely ready to let go of this opportunity.

He smirked when she finally said it. He wouldn't tease her anymore about it. Leaning in he pressed his lips to hers. Damn he was glad she felt the same way he did. He deepened the kiss, his tongue sliding in between her lips to search for hers.

He didn't seem to hesitate and the excitement it gave her, had her feeling alert. Almost to the point that when his lips pressed to hers, heat spread through her like a crisp fire. A moan passed between her lips as he pressed his tongue between her lips and she let her tongue touch his.

Her knee slowly fell till her legs were stretched out under her as she slowly leaned back, drawing him in to follow her down.

He took a quick breath between kisses and followed her down onto the bed. He liked having her under him. She was so tiny. He used one hand to keep himself upright while his other hand trailed up under her shirt to her breast. He pulled the cup of her bra to the side and squeezed. It excited him even more feeling her nipple hit the palm of his hand.

He took in another sharp breath before breaking their kiss. His erection pressed painfully against his pants, but he pressed on. His hips slid between her legs as he kissed down her neck.

This was what she wanted, right? She felt heat surge up as he fondled her breast. "Ah-" She tried to get the first words out between them but it was muffled by another kiss. Her mind tried to remember what she wanted as she fell back against the bed, but the idea kept slipping further away.

She reached his bicep, holding onto his arm as he pressed between her legs and she tried to not get too excited by him. Her heart felt like it was thundering in her chest and by the time she realized how good it felt, she wasn't concerned in stopping him now. This was between the two of them. Completely consensual yet she felt nervous for suddenly revealing the painting to him. The neighbor came to mind and she froze up, her chest tight.

Her mind tried to race back to that place of ease but somehow she felt like she was caught in the middle of something. Feelings? Selene pulled her arms around his neck in an attempt to hug him, nestling her cheek against his shoulder. Something had her confused about all of this. Like she was taking all the wrong steps.

She had birth control, sure, but somehow it felt like- Like she was either forgetting something or hung up on him. "Can we go under the covers?" She asked Dean quietly, trying to get her wits about her.

He pulled up a little to look at her. "Sure." That wasn't necessarily an odd question, but unexpected. He pulled off of her a little reluctantly.

Selene pushed the sheets back, turning her back to him as she picked them up. She looked at him, smiling a little as she let her shorts slip off under the sheets and she invited him behind her. "I get cold easily," she told him, but it was really just an excuse. She was shy to show her body anyways among the things that kept her mind distracted.

He wondered if she was playing coy or she was just that shy. He pulled his shirt off over his head and let it drop to the floor before reaching to unfasten his pants. He smirked at her.

Selene watched him and she tried not to gawk but her gaze was over his body. She pulled her shirt over her head then proceeded to undo her bra. He was smiling at her… her mind couldn't dismiss the picture of it but it took away her breath. The front clasp was undid as she pushed the straps down and she glanced up at him again before looking away as she removed it.

He toed off his shoes and pulled his pants and underwear off. He stood back up to watch her take her bra off. The bed dipped a little when he eased his way back on. He couldn't wait til she was done before he groped one breast and pulled her into a kiss. Fuck, she was soft.

The sheets twisted around her ankle as she stole a glance back up him. One eye closed as she gasped, whining when he groped her before their lips locked again. Their lips pressed firmly together, making her feel a surge of warmth run through her again right as the kiss ended. Selene pulled back just barely able to catch her breath as their kiss ended with a loud pop.

She reached for his arm again, using his steady arm to help pull herself up as she came back in for a second kiss. Chills spread up her arms as she kissed him. Right as Selene pulled her second hand up to his cheek, she kissed him again. Then touched her lips against his cheek and down his jaw to his neck. Letting her hand slide down, she took hold of him and stroked him carefully. This was okay, right? She glanced up at him, still holding his upper bicep.

Desire for her had his body aching, needing to be inside her. He gasped when she took his member and closed his eyes tightly. Her warm hand around his shaft felt so good. He turned his head wanting to catch her lips again as he pressed up against her. His hand falling between her legs to her center.

Selene's toes curled as she felt his fingers tap her center. She raised one leg up to his side as she felt their lips touch again. His chest pressed down against her as she fell back to the bed. She used her elbow to catch herself quickly, looking up at him again before she felt her hips jerk in response to his hand.

She lifted her hips to his as she laid her head back into the pillow, encouraging him to follow with peppered kisses. As she felt him close in over her, she drew his bottom lip into her mouth before sucking on it. When she let go, she couldn't help but gaze up at him invitingly. The thoughts and nerves of earlier washed away with wanton fantasy.

"Mm," he groaned as he followed her to the bed. He shifted his hips to fit between her legs comfortably. He broke their kiss and watched as he stuck two fingers into her. His breathing was ragged as he thrust his fingers in a quick rhythm.

At first, heat surged from her center. Then she felt his fingers through the warmth and she groaned, closing her eyes as her back arched. "Uh!" She opened her eyes but her face couldn't focus on him. Bliss spread between her legs, hot and wet as her other hand twisted the sheets around her fists.

Her squirming in pleasure beneath him had him hardening even more. He didn't want to wait any longer. He needed to be inside her. He bent down and gave her a quick kiss on the lips before pulling away to grab a condom from his pants.

A swift waft of air came between them when he pulled away and the heat of his body left her a moment. Selene breathed in, looking up at the ceiling after he pulled away and she picked her head up somewhat. She could hear his buckle jingling softly as the metal prong clacked against the bar of the frame. She relaxed slightly, letting her back settle against the sheets.

He tore the package open quickly and slid the condom on quickly. Within seconds he was back over her, nestled neatly in the cradle of her hips. He looked at her before her before he entered her. "You sure?"

She felt him again. The warmth of his presence hovering over her made her almost hug him for warmth, but his voice interrupted her day dream of sweet fantasy.

Selene opened her eyes slowly to look up at him and she almost hesitated but she knew it'd ruin it. "Of course I'm sure." She wrapped her arms around him as she pulled herself up. "Isn't this the start of us getting to know each other?" She shrugged her shoulders shyly as she cast her gaze away from him a moment. She looked back at Dean, smiling more before letting one hand roll down his back.

Damn. Her mind was reeling on the feel of his muscles. He wasn't any professional body builder, but he was well built enough to make her mind drool over the prospect of watching him stand over her again.

He was glad to hear it, but he wanted to make sure. He shivered when she ran a hand down his back and the chill air had goosebumps spreading along his skin. He wasted no more time as he pressed the tip of his member into her warm, wet center. His breath caught a little as he enjoyed the feel of her tight around him.

Selene pulled her arm down his back till she picked up the sheets and tugged them over him. She arched her back a bit as he pressed his member into her center and she breathed in. "Is this alright?" She whispered softly.

He breathed a laugh and nodded. "Yeah." He slowly started to move his hips, pressing deep into her center. He lowered his head to kiss her chin softly and then her lips again.

She groaned, feeling him press against her and she jerked her hips when he pushed in. He hit her center rather easily and she moaned even as his lips pressed against hers. So he was- She felt her grip loosen around his neck as she whined. "Agh," she rasped.

He liked hearing her cries of pleasure so he moved to kiss and suck on her neck. His rhythm was smooth but also forceful. She was so tiny so he didn't want to hurt her by being too rough.

Selene grabbed both of his forearms as he rattled her senses. She could feel him hit that place again and it sent a wave of chills over her. She let him overtake her, pulling her under him as he claimed her body.

She barely noticed the noise of the neighbors as the door shut and she could hear something in the distance.

"You're back. That was quick." Sorin sat up from the kitchen table. "What did you get?" She asked him coolly as she grabbed for a paper towel for the table.

"You wanted Beef and Broccoli, right?" he asked, setting the bag of food on the table.

"No. I said beef teriyaki." She growled, looking at him. "You're kidding, right?" She folded the paper towel and set it on the counter. She heard something smacking the wall and she turned to look back at the wall. "Really?" She sighed, putting her phone on the counter. "Whatever. Bring it here. Put it on the counter. I'll eat it anyways."

The walls to these apartments were so thin. No wonder the rent was cheap.

"I told them three times, but they gave me this," he sighed. He knew the sounds were coming from Selene's apartment and he felt his apatite leave.

"It's fine." She looked at him. "What did you get anyway?" Why was he making that dejected face again?

"Combination fried-rice," he said, handing her food to her.

"Did leaving Japan really do that big of a number on you?" She asked him, taking the bag to set it on the counter. Sorin started untying the knot from the top of the plastic bag but it didn't stop her from glancing at him.

"What?" he asked looking at her. What was she talking about?

Sorin looked at him, her enthusiasm fell from her face, before setting the to-go boxes on the table. "Don't play stupid with me. Vasile may have let her off and Zaleska may hide your little secret from Japan, but you're acting odd. What's bothering you so much that you're starting to recluse yourself again? We've been around each other for years. I'm not like Crina."

She almost curled a lip at the thought of the devil girl Vasile loved to keep at his side but only because of his position. It was all so precarious.

Roku tossed his food down on the counter. He didn't want to talk about it. It hurt too much. Sorin wasn't going to leave him alone about it. He heard the bed knock against the wall again and grit his teeth, his jaw tightening painfully.

"The girl next door…" He breathed a heavy sigh. "She's-" The one that rejected me four years ago.

Girl next door? She crossed her arms. "If they're that noisy, just go bang on the door and tell them to be quiet." She sighed. She sat down at the table. "Is that what's been eating you?" Well, wait… The party too. "Unless it's more than that. What? Did you see the neighbor at that party?" Just a guess, but honestly, most of the people here were college students, anyway.

That wasn't- "Just forget it." He growled and turned to leave. He would not talk about it. He slammed the front door as he left.

What a temper. She rolled her eyes, opening the box to look down at the food.

"What's going on?" Luca poked her head out of her room. The tv was blaring from inside.

"Want some meat?" Sorin asked, drawing her gaze up at Luca plainly.

"Um, sure, but where's Roku?"

"He left."

Luca looked at her, a bit pissed. "What did you do?"

"Nothing." Sorin shrugged. "He was already mad."

Selene laid under Dean tiredly. She was trying not to fall asleep, but it was so warm.

Dean took heavy breaths as he pulled out of her. He fell down beside her and his arms fell above his head.

Selene opened her eyes slowly, staring up at the ceiling before her eyes traced over the rays of light that cast shadows over the walls. "Was it as satisfying as expected?" She asked him quietly, unable to help the smile that splayed over her lips.

"Better." He smiled and looked at her. He grunted as he sat up. "Where's your bathroom?"

"Mm," she tried to imagine a way to direct him. "Go out my door, turn left down the end of the hall. Last door on the right." Selene said before sitting up. She reached over the side of the bed and grabbed her shirt. Clutching it against her chest, she watched him a moment but looked down shyly instead.

He stood and started for the door, but looked back at her. He liked how she was so shy. He smirked and went to the bathroom. He cleaned himself up.

Selene waited for him to leave before she got up from her bed and picked up what remained of her other clothes. She threw them at her laundry basket half-heartedly before glancing over at the closet. The mirror hung in front of her inviting her to stare and she thought about her insecurity a moment before turning to put her back to the mirror.

Turning her head back, Selene gazed at the scar that remained from being shot. Selene let her fingers edge over the ugly scars from her wound. She felt ashamed by it even still, and as her gaze fell to the carpet, she turned around to open her closet and pull out a pair of pajamas.

"Yeah," she sighed, a bit dejected by the feelings of shame that threatened to overtake her thoughts. She leaned back, letting her hair fall over her shoulders and back as she closed her eyes. Things would get better. It just took time.

It didn't take Dean long in the bathroom before he was coming back to Selene's room. He caught her looking a bit depressed, and he frowned. "Hey, what's wrong?" He stepped back in and walked over to her. She wasn't regretting this, was she?

Heat spread through her, making her feel raw and exposed. Had he noticed the marks? The sound of his voice startled her, making her turn her head sharply back in his direction. She crushed her back against the wall quickly, hiding her scar. "It's just a long day," she told him, smiling up at him as he closed the distance between them.

Heat spread through her, making her feel raw and exposed. Had he noticed the marks?

He didn't miss her pull her shirt down like she was hiding something. He slid his hands around her to her lower back. "Is that really what's wrong?"

She tugged her shirt down harder, noticing his hands feel her lower back. "Don't!" She breathed in sharply.

"D-Don't look." Selene said again quickly, reaffirming herself. Her throat felt dry being put in this situation with Dean, but she didn't want to talk about this yet.

He pulled his hands away and stepped back. "Alright." He saw a bit of fear and frowned. Turning around, he grabbed his pants and put them on.

She bit her lip, letting her hair fall down over her face as she lowered her head. "I'm sorry. I just- I can't talk about it right now. It's just something I have to deal with on my own."

The words felt icy considering how well they were talking earlier. The anxiety it gave her made her believe maybe she was more of a wreck than she thought. Maybe she shouldn't be attempting to engage in a new relationship. As if the wounds were just as fresh as four years ago.

Selene clenched her teeth. Large tears beaded down from her eyes as she squeezed them shut. She felt so ashamed. What the hell was she doing? Her mind naggingly pressed for an answer, but she couldn't give it. It only seemed to add to her overwhelming feelings that she wasn't good enough. Nothing was good enough.

He buttoned his pants and looked at her. "It's okay. I'm not-" He stopped seeing the tears and felt bad. Maybe this was a bad idea.

"Hey," he coaxed her. "You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to, alright?" He just hoped she didn't regret what they had just done.

Selene looked up at him quickly as she pressed her hands behind her to close the closet. "Yeah," she breathed, looking up at him. She wiped her tears away, smiling at him, but it was more forced than anything. "I-I appreciate it." She looked down again before taking a shaky breath.

"Dean. I-It's not anything with you. I'm just nervous." She explained to him. Selene grit her teeth as she tried to get a grip on herself. "M-Maybe next time we can talk about it. I'm just being self-conscious." Her teeth chattered a little before she breathed in. Selene counted off in her head like her therapist had suggested, and she let out a shaky breath.

She put a smile on her face and lifted her head. Despite the sadness in her smile, she felt like maybe he was leaving. "I-it'll pass." She told him, but the words were more for herself than anything. "You… uh- want to head out to the kitchen with me? I was thinking maybe a little something to drink."

He couldn't hide his surprise at her question. So she wasn't kicking him out? He gave her a half smile and nodded. "Yeah." He pulled his shirt on, fluffing it so it would fall better over his shoulders and chest.

"Let me finish getting dressed." She told him, picking up the thin red shorts with white lines from the floor. She slipped them on before buttoning up the long-sleeve shirt.

At least he didn't persist. Selene felt relief at his easy-going personality. Despite how comfortable she was with him, she still felt angry with herself earlier for her own lack of control. "Are you thirsty?" Selene stood up, walking towards him.

"Yeah. What do you have?" he asked. He figured she wasn't talking about alcohol since she was quite obviously not a drinker.

"Um, chocolate milk…" She thought about it. "Eggnog and some orange juice." She walked out of her room, grabbing one chair's backing at the kitchen island before opening the fridge door. Her hands were still shaking, but she was feeling herself calm down significantly. She looked in the fridge and noticed her alcoholic energy drink and she looked back at him. "Unless you'd like a Lucky4?"

He held back a laugh when he heard chocolate milk. Of course she would have that. He scrunched his face and shook his head. "That shit is nasty." He was never a fan of energy drinks of any kind, though. "How about chocolate milk," he smiled. Would she have marshmallows too?

Selene felt a bit embarrassed about the energy drink, but it was really more of her and Sarah's 'thing' anyway. She pushed it back out of the way to grab the quart bottle and placed it on the counter. She smiled a bit at him as she pulled out a small six ounce cup and placed it on the counter.

Hesitating, she looked at it before grabbing another. Why not? Selene started to pour milk into each cup. She filled them up before taking her cup and putting it in the microwave. "Warm or cold?"

He pulled one of the island chairs out and winced as it screeched a little before sitting down. "Warm," he told her.

She opened the door again and put his cup in next to hers and she couldn't help but smile at the warm fuzziness that washed over her looking at the two cups.

Selene closed the door, turning the microwave on as she nuked it for a good thirty seconds. "Whip cream?" She raised a brow, lifting the container out of the fridge. "I swear, it's just a poor college student's hot cocoa, but it tastes super good if you're willing to give in to temptation."

"Yeah! Make it fancy." He grinned.

His personality felt infectious and she couldn't help the shy smile that overtook her lips as she heard the microwave go off. Selene pulled the two cups out and put them on the counter as she shook the can before spraying whip cream over the two cups. She opened the draw and slid him a spoon across the table before leaning over to put the cup in front of him.

He smiled and took the cup lightly with his fingertips so as not to burn himself. He bent over and took a bite of the whipped cream, licking his lips. "This is awesome. Thank you."

"Thanks," she told him softly. Selene blew on the top of the drink before lifting it to her lips. She drank some, then set it down on the counter before scooping bits of cream up onto her spoon. After a few bites, she couldn't help but stare at him a moment.

He lifted the cup and took a quick sip. It was hot still, but not bad. He put the cup down, but he had a bit of cream on his nose.

"For a guy like yourself, you don't look so tough now." Selene laughed, seeing his face. She took a napkin from the dispenser and reached across the table to wipe his nose.

He closed his eyes when she wiped his nose, and he smiled at her. "You have a pleasant laugh."

Selene's phone went off as Lex tried to call her.

Selene's face flushed lightly, making her freckles vibrant at his words. She almost responded, but her phone, on the counter from earlier, vibrated. She felt dread grip her seeing Lex's name, and she picked up the phone.

Swiping the answer button, Selene put the phone up to her ear. "Hello?"

"Hey! Sarah's gonna be okay. They gave her a blood transfusion, but we're all done now and headed back."

Dean could hear Lex and concern crossed his features. Blood transfusion?

Selene felt her chest tighten and she listened to Lex before looking up at Dean. He looked very suspiciously at her, probably able to hear Lex and she hit the button to lower the volume. "How long till you think you'll bring her back here?" She asked him softly. She'd talk with Lex about the details after.

"Sarah is signing release papers now. Maybe thirty minutes." He sighed heavily. "She's in a shit mood by the way." He figured he'd warn her.

"Oh, great." Selene rolled her eyes. "Well, thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to pack a bag for myself just in case." She looked down at the counter. "Just tell her if she's going to be rotten, I don't want to hear it. She scared the hell out of me." She was feeling defensive again.

Lex sighed and walked a little more out of Sarah's hearing range. "I think she was more scared than any of us." He frowned. "You should have seen her when she woke up. I've never seen her cry like that."

Selene stiffened, feeling bad, but the twisting knot in her stomach didn't let her reciprocate the sympathy she should have had. "Yeah," she sighed, turning away from the table. "I-I think it terrified us all." She felt her teeth clench to keep from chattering just thinking about it but it made her feel scared.

"J-Just… Just tell her I'll be home, waiting for her. Okay? I'll be here when you guys arrive. Is it okay if you and Derek go run some errands tomorrow for me? If Derek can't go, you can borrow my Durango to get it. I just don't want to leave her home by herself." She was a little worried to be at home with Sarah alone too, but she felt like she was just being over zealous about the whole bite thing.

"Yeah. I was going to call him next and fill him in." He looked back into the room seeing Sarah stand up from the bed. "If you get tired of being around her, just call me alright? We're leaving now so see you in a bit." He hung up the phone without waiting for her to answer.

Dean raised a brow at her. "Everything okay?" He figured he'd be leaving soon.

Selene heard the phone click and she pulled it from her ear to look at it a moment. The screen went dark as Dean's words mulled in the back of her mind softly. Okay? No. Everything was a wreck.

She looked up at him. "Some scary shit went down yesterday night," she breathed. "But it's all over now. My roommate is on her way home and she's not in the best mood. I don't want to make you stick around for that." She told him, dodging the question.

"At the party?" His mind went through some bad scenarios that could have happened. "Did someone hurt her?" Why else would she need blood?

"Y-Yeah," she looked down. "Weird shit always happens when Duke Fl-" She covered her mouth quickly. "I mean, yeah. We don't know who. It's touchy." She waved off to him.

"Anyways, is it alright if I call you tomorrow afternoon? I won't be going to class tomorrow, but I'll send out an email to the instructor for a make up day anyways for that humanities class we share. So uh… If you don't mind, maybe we can even meet up tomorrow after if things go well?"

He nodded, but he was pretty upset that someone had hurt her friend. Maybe he could look into it. "Yeah, that works." He slid off the chair and looked at her. "So… I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Yeah," she told him, setting her phone down as she got up from her chair. Selene walked with him to the door. "Thanks for spending time with me tonight, Dean. I really appreciate it." She told him quietly. She hoped he'd talk to her more tomorrow.

"Thanks for inviting me," he stopped in the open door and looked at her. He leaned in and gave her a small kiss. "See you tomorrow." He winked at her and started to leave.

Selene stood still, watching him in awe after that kiss. When he walked away, she jumped as if to wave at him awkwardly. "T-tom-tomorrow!" She called after him.

A shadow watching them from further down stood silently in the dark of the complex's outdoor walkway.

Selene turned her head back in the direction of the presence, feeling strange for a moment as her heart started to leap in her chest. Damn, it was definitely more creepy out at night now since Sarah's attack. "Now I'll have to make sure to lock the door more often." She mumbled to herself, looking back to watch Dean leave.

When he disappeared down the steps, Selene shut the door and locked it to go sit in the kitchen and wait.

It wasn't too much longer until Lex was helping Sarah to her apartment. She huffed out of air and knocked on the door.

Lex frowned.

"Don't look at me like that." She didn't want to feel anymore pathetic than she already did.

"I'll make sure you're settled before I go get your prescription."

"I told you, you don't have to do it tonight. I have enough supplements to last-"

"I'm not arguing with you anymore about this."

Selene perked up, raising her head tiredly to look over from the kitchen to the doorway. "Hey!" She called, getting up. "What can I do to help?" She asked, walking over to the doorway.

Sarah looked at her friend and roommate and groaned. "Honestly I want a bath, but this boob thinks I'll drown." She smacked Lex in the chest.

She was still really pale, but her eyes weren't as sunken in and she seemed to have some energy back.

Lex growled. "You need to be watched closely for the next twenty-four hours, Sarah. I'm pretty sure Selene doesn't want to sit in the bathroom with you. Can't you just go to bed?"

Sarah growled. "Lex I swear if you don't get out of my sight, you'll be the one in the hospital bed."

"Alright. Alright." Selene waved, smiling her usual masked smile to them both. "Let's get you to bed. We've got some fresh night clothes on your bed and I have a bit of ice cream in the fridge if you want that before you go to sleep." She tried to ease the pressure on Lex.

He was honestly a godsend right now.

"I'll be back tomorrow-"

Sarah slammed the door in his face and leaned against it. "Ice cream," she groaned. "Can we lay on the couch?" she asked her.

Selene glared at her for that. "Thanks Lex!" She hollered. She sighed, pushing her hair back with her hand. "No." She told her. "Your room or no deal. The living room is a mess and I don't want to clean it right now."

She'd been lounging in it all day anyways.

"Fine," she whined. She pushed off from the door and started for her room. She pulled her shirt off after kicking her flats off.

At least she took to the bribe. Selene sighed, walking up to the door to lock it before walking back into the room after her.

"I'm sorry," Sarah told her finally as she grabbed the night shirt.

"Sorry for what?" She was too tired to remember what they were talking about. Today was definitely an emotional rollercoaster.

"For scaring you." Sarah looked at her and sat on the edge of her bed. Honestly she didn't want any of this to happen either.

Selene was a little taken back by the statement, but she nodded to her. "Yeah," she looked down. "I know it wasn't your intention. Just- Just go to the hospital next time when scary shit like that happens. Okay?" She gripped the door frame in her hands, squeezing it lightly as she looked at the ground.

Sarah frowned. "Kay." Her voice was quiet. She hated hospitals, but she understood Selene's point.

Selene sighed, looking up at Sarah. "Wanna watch a movie with me till you fall asleep?" She asked softly. "Or we could listen to some new music."

She looked up at her. "Let's watch a movie." She perked up just a little at that.

"Sure," she breathed, laughing at her. Selene grabbed her laptop from the living room before coming back to huddle on the bed with Sarah. The night passed on into the late evening, leaving her awake when the movie ended.

Sarah was asleep, but honestly, that was the whole point. Closing her laptop quietly after the credits, Selene got up and flicked the lights off. She stepped out of the room when she noticed the light outside was still on. "I forgot that." She murmured to herself, walking up to the door as she opened it to look up at the lamp.

"Yeah," she sighed, about to close the door when she heard someone's footsteps. Turning her head in the direction of the noise, she gazed up at her new neighbor.

Roku hadn't meant to be gone for so long. He hoped he wouldn't run into the guy who was with Selene. That's the last thing he needed was to run into a man smelling just like the girl he- He sighed heavily as he started for his apartment.

Selene watched him at the door and she was quiet for a moment as she stared at him. "The neighbor…" She whispered, slowly trying to close the door quietly.

His head turned to her quickly hearing her whisper. "Hello?" he asked, seeing the door cracked a little. His heart stopped for a second thinking someone might have broken into her apartment.

Selene jumped, swinging the door open awkwardly in her startle instead of closing it. "H-Hello. S-Sorry. I left the light on and was- was just checking um…" She looked back behind her. "I wa- wasn't staring or anything. S-Sorry."

He looked at her and relaxed a little seeing she was okay. He tightened his hold on the doorknob to his apartment wanting to say more, but lacked the conviction. She was right there! "It-It's fine." He looked away and removed his key to try and unlock the door. She's moved on, he needed to as well.

Selene looked down, about to close the door but she hesitated. It felt like if she was ever going to get her chance then now was it. "Y-You aren't uh… From Japan, perhaps, are you?"

He dropped his key when she asked. Shit! He bent down to pick it up. "Yeah," he answered without looking at her.

Selene was almost certain then. He looked a bit older but even still. Her stomach churned wildly. It was him! She was certain it was him! God and she had a painting of him in her closet. "Roku?" She winced, saying his name as he knelt for his keys. It felt sharp on her tongue.

He sighed standing back up as he held his keys. "Selene," he said, finally looking at her.

So it was him! She tried to take in a shaky breath but her hands shook. "Why'd you leave?" She asked him quickly, the words flew from her lips like hot sparks.

Roku frowned. "I-" he didn't know how to answer that. "I didn't want to."

What?! She looked at him, appalled. "What do you mean you didn't want to? No one made you ghost me. You could have answered your texts." It irritated her how he tried to act like he was free of fault of any of this. Didn't want to?! "You left me. Without even saying goodbye. You just vanished into thin air."

It hurt to know that's how she saw it. "That's not how it happened, Selene. There is so much more that you- can't remember." She couldn't find out that he wasn't human. Not again. He felt the pain of that rejection rip his heart open again.

"What do you mean can't remember?!" She was annoyed. He was talking in what seemed like riddles. She remembered him coming to see her once after being shot. "What are you even doing here anyways?" Her chest felt painful from this. It was him but she felt like an idiot talking to him.

He wanted to tell her. He frowned. "I can't tell you that."

She felt herself bristle up. "I know damn well what I saw. You left me!" Like hell she was going to have him make her think she was crazy. "Keep your secrets then Roku, but I'll be damned if you make me feel inadequate twice!" She glared at him with tears in her eyes.

She kicked the door open on accident, fumbling to grab the handle. "Do whatever you want. Obviously, it's not like you haven't moved on." Venom thick in her words before she slammed the door shut behind her. She flicked the light off immediately after and the outside of the apartment was quiet.

He took her words and tried not to show how they hurt him. He let out a breath when she slammed the door.

She's locked the deadbolt behind her before rubbing her cheeks of the tears that fell. "Fucking jerk!" What was with her taste in men?!

Selene walked back into the apartment further till she got to her room and closed the door behind her. Her gaze drew up to the mirror to see her face and she groaned, walking over to her bed to flop down on it face first. "Go to hell Roku." She ground her teeth together, before her eyes felt heavy and she closed them.

He heard what she'd said at the door and winced. He tightened his hand into a fist and punched the wall next to his door. "I haven't." But she wouldn't know that he hadn't moved on. His hand fell and blood dropped to the ground. He didn't care though. Physical pain didn't hurt as bad. He turned to unlock the door and went inside.

Sorin looked up as he came in. "Oh, you're back." She told him, turning to look at the doorway. He barely caught her in the hallway before she got to her room.

Luca peeked out of her room. "Welcome home Roku," she said from her doorway. The tv was on again, blaring some old Western movie.

He said nothing to them as he went to his room and shut the door. He was too emotional right now and didn't want to have a conversation with either of them.

Luca stared at Sorin but she only shrugged before entering her room. "Broody again?" She sighed before closing the door. "Maybe tomorrow."
