Incident

The next day, Heat went right back to school. In almost anywhere in the world, that could be unusual, but in Mua, a wealthy town in the rich Pacific nation of Zion, where education is prioritized, it was normal. Here, parents didn't just want their children to be doctors, engineers etcetera, they wanted them to make a huge difference with knowledge.

"Heyo Burners, what's up man?" Ursus greeted.

"Oi. How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that?"

"Ya called Heat and it produces fire soooo…hahahahaha get it?"

"That logic is completely flawed and your jokes get worse by the day."

"Hater."

"You wish."

"Why do ya look like ya barely slept?"

"'Cause I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I was in the forest getting bit again."

"Dude, you need to see a therapist or something."

"Nah, the best advice I'll get is to not go on a camping trip with you guys again, like ever."

"Hurtful words."

"Whos that?"

Heat pointed to a dark-haired girl standing next to his locker as they walked closer.

"Oh yeah, she's the new girl; she came the day after ya were hospitalized. Kinda like Heat resurrected…except in a female body and actually good looking...and actually taking care of her hair, and not having a weird hair color."

Heat ran his hand through his messy white hair. "Shut up, Ursus."

Ursus chuckled.

When Heat approached his locker, he smiled. "Hey."

"Hi!"

The girl was trying to pull a book out of her messy locker, with little success. Heat chuckled and opened his. She paused and looked at him and took in a deep breath.

"Perfume, in a locker? That's…unexpected. But then again, your locker looks like what I imagine my books think heaven is."

Heat chuckled. "Thanks, I'm Heat."

"An unusual name for an unusual appearance, nice."

"Ahhh, the black skin, white hair and green eyes combo. You can't say much with your heterochromia though."

She chuckled.

The school bell rang.

"Oops time for class," she said.

"Whose class are you in?"

"Um…right now, Sir John."

"The only English I can think of who doesn't like tea."

"Haha, shedding the stereotypes."

"I'm headed there too, let's go."

"No problem."

"Comes to school for the first time in about a month and has already started with girls, just like that." Ursus said undertone to another boy he was walking with.

"Oi baka, I heard you." Heat walked past Ursus and smacked him on the head on the way to his seat.

That was one of Heat's favorite phrases to use on Ursus. Heat learned a number of languages, including Japanese, where "baka" translates "moron." Ursus never understood it, nor did he bother to check, encouraging Heat to keep using it.

After sitting for some twenty minutes, the class seemed quiet to Heat and he began to hear some voices.

"Yeah, so we're gonna put this under the table when they leave for their break, right?"

"Exactly."

There were two different voices from the hallway but Heat could not tell what he had just heard, because he did not exactly hear it, it was more of a case of him deciphering vibrations through the ground.

"What the heck?!"

His outburst caused everyone to look at him. Sir John looked at Heat and then continued talking, like nothing happened.

After the first break, Heat entered the class quickly and went to his desk. Supido followed him behind.

"What's the problem? You've been acting dull ever since you had a nightmare in class."

Heat did not say anything for some time. Then he had an idea.

"Supido, check under all the desks to see if you can find any explosive."

"Uhhh, but why?"

"I don't know, just a hunch."

"We could get into trouble."

"Please, just help me."

"Okay, okay I'm on it."

After they had gone through about half of the class, other students begun to flock into the class and caught them going through their desks. In Zion, when pupils go for a break, they typically leave their belongings in pockets fitted under the table.

"OMG! What are you two doing?!"

Upon hearing those words, Supido sighed and looked up, not because they were caught going through people's belongings, but because he could not stand people speaking such acronyms in everyday conversations. The students rushed to their desks to see if everything was intact, while some yelled at Heat. Both boys however, were not concerned by that. Heat stood still, he felt like he was on a psychedelic drug and it was amazing. He could tell the position of everything in the class, feel the heartbeats of everyone through the ground and even detect every insect that crawled.

Noticing something was amiss with Heat, Supido walked over to him. "What's going on?"

Heat's face lit up with fright. "Amy, don't touch your desk!"

Heat's warning was a little late; the girl already had her hands under the desk.

"Oh crap. Everyone, get out of the building!"

All the students looked at Heat, then each other.

"Run."

That calm word from Supido, triggered something in the minds of all the students. Without hesitation, everyone began to run outside. Heat rushed outside the class. He smashed the glass around the fire alarm and hit it; panicking teachers and students rushed out of their classrooms and headed for the exits. In all the chaos, students tripped, while some tried to take certain belongings. Heat stayed back to help others get out, and when he was left alone, he began to head for the door, when the ringing suddenly stopped. He paused for a split second but in that moment, the building exploded from his classroom.
