10 Taking Action

His idea was to check if a certain something existed in the system shop. It was on the level of extending one's lifespan or increasing a person's luck compared to those life-changing effects what Caelum was thinking about was much tamer.

He desired to see if there was a truth serum, quickly opening up his system glazing over the new plus icons near the stats and the allocatable stat points he opened up the shop.

In truth, Caelum was excited before he opened up the shop. When he did open up the shop he was in awe.

The system knew how to sell, he would certainly give them that. In neat little rows with icons that pulled you in he saw many things that he expected, and many more that he did not.

He was not looking to purchase a house, no, he was looking for the truth serum.

Passing a few more pages a prompt was brought up.

[Pay to Win System Notification]

[Are you not able to find what you are looking for, think of it and if you want it we most likely have it.]

He thought of a truth serum and a new screen was brought up.

It was there! It was surprisingly cheap. When you focused on the icon there were settings, would you like it to be flavored? How long do you need it to work for?

Depending on the length of effectiveness the cost scaled accordingly of course.

A minute while it could answer a few questions it would not be enough. 5 Minutes, that sounded fine.

His intentions were right, he was would be getting the answers that he deserved.

Changing his attention back to Vaile placing the plate onto the bench while he was at it he began to formulate what he was going to say. He needed to absorb money, eh. Not what he wanted to have to do before he achieves something so small.

"Vaile, could I have some money. Pretty please. There is something I want to get." In his cutest voice possible, it was humiliating but it had to be done Caelum asked who he was going to use the truth serum on

"What is it? As long as it's not a castle or a horse, or a pet I think I can afford it."

"It will be a surprise." He had to omit any information that could give away what he was going to do. If he did it would backfire and he would be hunted down, at least he would be left on the streets.

He knew enough to get a job, but to earn enough in the first day to get a place to stay he could rely on the old man. That he did not want to do.

Seeming a bit reluctant to part with the money, she handed him a gold coin.

"A surprise, eh, it wouldn't hurt to be surprised. Just give me back the change." Her eyes seemed to carry great expectation.

"Ok! I will return soon with any change and the surprise." This was his chance, he backed away and went into one of the nearby stores. Within a few minutes, he returned with his hands clenched.

Quickly he headed towards his target, Miss Vaile with a short knife in hand. Attached to it was the syringe. You would have to really focus to see the small needle that surpassed the length of the knife a nearly imperceivable amount.

His plan would be to show the knife to Miss Vaile and then he would accidentally nick her with it, the part that he would nick her with would be the syringe, not the knives edge.

Miss Vaile noticed him when his steps shaping the dirt into the shape of his small child-sized feet.

"Hey, your back and I see you bought..." Vaile had to examine the object that he was holding in his hand to realize what exactly it was.

Being an object outside of what she expected she couldn't help but widen her eyes in surprise.

"Hey you want to see what I bought Vaile, I mean Miss Vaile?"

"Yeah, sure, it is a knife is it not?"

"Something like that, wanna hold it?" He had to keep his voice calm. It was not like he was going to kill her with the truth serum. He was just going to get her to tell him things peacefully, that he needed to know.

As if he was passing it along he used a bit too much force and like he expected, her face scrunched up up a small amount, in an attempt to not appear weak he very quickly pushed in the plunger, the part of the syringe that could be pushed in.

She was no longer focused on the knife, she instead focused on the small poke she felt, which was the syringes point that would produce the effect that Caelum desired.

"I am sorry! I am, please, you have to know I did not intend to harm you. I didn't mean to have the surprise harm you. I just saw other people carrying the weapons around and wanted something like it. Sorry again!" Calums voice had sincerity, and a tint of innocence to it, his youthful appearance contributing the most to show she reacted. He also did his best to squeeze in a few tears.

Doing her best to remain calm she began to speak once more. "It's fine, you did not mean it, your intentions were pure."

"Let's go home. We ate cake at least so don't feel down about it."

"Really, I am sorry." He had to drive the nail into the wall further.

"I know you are. Hand over the knife though, cant have that accident happen again."

Left with no choice but to, Caelum handed the knife and syringe that were bundled together. The syringe was empty.

"Whats this?" She wondered, us both now standing right before one another.

"A shopkeeper sold the syringes for cheap on the front counter and another shopkeep sold the dagger for cheap and I put two ideas together. It did not go as planned. A doctor dagger. Ha..."

Caelum answered.

"I'm guessing you don't want to check out any other places?" He knew that her answer would be yes the moment that he took action, but Caelum had to make sure that she held no suspicions.

"No, even if you apologize, today has been a day and one I would like to sleep off." Understandably so, a kid who just became one year old had nicked her with a knife, damn. He would need a week to sleep off an encounter like that.

She deposited the doctor knife (whatever the fuck he made) in her bag before putting the blindfold onto his face and they headed back. Vaile held his hand to make sure he did not trip or run into anyone.

But this protagonist would no longer be blind to the truths that evaded him.

"I need answers."
