1 Death of a Pay to Winner

A day like many others, on his way to his high school Caelum with little focus on what was going on beyond the bright screen that belonged to his phone a vehicle reared its head onto the street and quickly sped towards the unsuspecting young teen who was busy fiddling with his phone as he was crossing the street just opposite the school.

Caelum loved to play Draconic Heavenly War, while it was pay to win if you did pay you were a fucking beast! You get tons of free shit, extra shit, awesome shit! It at first was something to pass the time, when the PVP update rolled out he found four and a half years back that he was a rather competitive person and this lit the fire under his ass and he got himself a less than legal job to pay to get ahead in the game. To pay to destroy all others in the leaderboards and arena.

He woke early to enter the events that happened at the earliest hours of the morning, due to the difference in time zone he had to adapt. It had become a habit in his second month of playing. Really early, and that made him thankful that Caelum had joined the game when he had did. He would have been left in the dust otherwise.

His character and his stats were monstrous. His race a demigod, his primary class an Emperor, his secondary class a Berserker and his tertiary class a Magic Swordsman.

In the arena, he was more or less a god. He could fight up close, from afar he could lead his guildmates to glory, and he could heal fucking faster than he could be beaten into the ground, which rarely happened.

His character was decked out with Blessed Mythical gear from head to toe, even an astrological rank eyepatch that made him in the game look and feel like a badass! It's effects more so... It costed a fine sum, an upwards of 32 Billion Coins. Most of what he had saved... But would anyone dare to spend such a sum, no they invested mostly in cosmetics.

As a VIP 12 he got quite a few cosmetic items over the years, but... Unlike others who tried to look like a warrior. He was a warrior, he was a general he was a walking speaking fire-breathing dragon amongst men.

It basically allowed him to exploit the weakness of their class in combat, a boost in the area they are most weak in. Let's say that Caelum was fighting an archer, a target that moves is most troublesome and his movement speed would skyrocket in turn. If it was a warrior type class fighting at a range.

Boy, was it worth it! All those fools were gobsmacked when he had bought it, it told the whole server, no doubt some of them pissed themselves in fright. Everyone was forced to lick his feet in the arena, once in a blue moon does anyone question his rule. Sadly they stood no chance. It was starting to become a bit of a lull to play after four years, but another server merge would happen soon.

With such a high VIP level the most tedious of tasks were automated and the most pressing of concerns became much less of a concern. His greatest concern was PVP and that fact would not change.

There was also that rumor about a VIP 13 coming out soon... If its real, he had to start saving up he had to stay at the peak, remaining stagnant would make him be crushed in a fine powder, eaten and then spat out.

Caelum licked his lips in desire at that idea, more to destroy, more to crush beneath his feet. It was exhilarating to be the best. To be the strongest. Over the years he had made friends in high places, a few of his suggestions over his entire time playing made it into the game.

Contributing, and ruling made him content, yet a deep dark void in him remained and only darkened as time went on and few people among all the servers could be considered his equals. It drove him crazy!

The car grew in size in proportion to the distance from the young teenage man until it could be recognized as a large SUV.

Despite this, a message that Caelum was glad to hear took precedence over his surroundings.

"To claim the Daily Reward User, please press the treasure chest down for 3 seconds." His phone's built-in speaker quipped, a feminine expressionless voice sounded out from them, his attention too enraptured by the familiar message to notice the oncoming vehicle headed straight towards him that edged ever nearer.

In a routine manner, he pressed one of his fingers down on the treasure chest an expectant grin plastered on his face as the seconds began to trickle down. He hoped he either receives more jewels or rare materials, he could always use more of either. Anything better than the dump prize that was the leeks.

A car honked at him catching his attention but it was too late to matter. Caelum was too subservient to his screen, to Heavenly Draconic war to the legend he made in it thus far.

When he looked finally towards the car up he could only curse "Fucking Draconic Heavens!" towards the sky his eyes closing as his mind was shot up with pain.

His body akin to that of a ragdoll flew across the street and the silhouette of a man getting out of their vehicle in a hurry was all that could be seen as Caelum lost consciousness and through his last breath he died as his life came to an end... or that was how it was supposed to go.

In the depths of his being a wick like essence exited his dead body from his navel and shot itself into the sky, his soul had a job and that was to find another body for its host. It knew what to do, not consciously, but instinctively doing Caelum a solid.

Traveling through space and dimensions, it merged with something peculiar on its way increasing the size of the soul compared to how it was before arriving in another planet displacing the soul of another taking over the body of a child in a run-down orphanage Caelum found asylum.

Caelum, rather his soul found where it's host would call home for a long time to come. The start of his unforgettable legend.

One that began with a shriek of a child filling the nursery with the howls of children.

This night would be long but looked back upon with fondness.
