37 The Adventurer Guild

Once Raikou had left the city, he was unsure of what to do next.

"Do I join a merchant group thats travelling? Find a travelling mercenary group?" After some thought he decided on finding out if there were any mercenary groups nearby.

He walked up to the first person he saw and asked them, "Is there some kind of mercenary type group nearby?"

"There is an adventurer guild back in the city that you can join."

Raikou thanked the person for the information and returned back to the city they had just went past.

He came up to the gates and mumbled, "I'm definitely not going to miss the aesthetic of this city. The all white with blue scheme creeps me out."

Raikou walked around till he found a huge white building with sword symbols plastered all around the skirts of the walls. He walked up to the door and pushed it open.

At the desk was an extremely butch woman. She was nearing Raikou in height and was as stocky as a bodybuilder. If it wasn't for the cleavage she was displaying through her peculiar chainmail armour, then Raikou would've thought it was a man.

He approached her and asked, "Madam, can you give me some details on your adventurer guild and what you offer people who join?"

She gave him a stern look and slammed her leg into his nether regions. "I'm not a madam! I'm only 18 years old. Also, I am a member, but I don't work at this guild. Go ask someone who actually works here."

Raikou was sprawled over the floor clutching his nuts. He looked at her and pitifully replied, "Wasn't there a more peaceful method to correcting my mistake? Also, why would you be standing at the desk if you don't work here..."

The woman realised her mistake and quickly helped him up. She replied, "Sorry. People always call me either a man or an old woman, that's just my usual response to the remarks. As an apology, I'll explain the ins and outs of the adventurer guild."

Raikou straightened his clothes out and sat on a stool. "Doesn't count as much of an apology for assault, but I am in a good mood, so I shall accept it." He had a benevolent expression on his face.

She rolled her eyes at his acting and continued, "There are adventurer guilds all over Epsilon. There is no actual leader of the guilds and they're just stationed in most major areas of the three continents. The benefits to becoming an adventurer are that you can accept missions for rewards and don't have to be tied down by any organisation. In return, you probably won't get any help from the guild if you're in trouble, unless you pay of course."

Raikou's eyes lit up at her explanation. "This sounds like my kind of organisation. How do I join?"

"You just have to give your details at the desk and you will be put into the system. You will be given an adventurer card that details your rank and can be used as a legitimate proof of ID. Adventurers are ranked from F to SSS. Your rank can only go up by doing missions, so keep that in mind. The mission list is on the wall behind me." She explained everything and walked towards the exit before turning around, "By the way, my name is Bri."

"Good to meet you Bri." Raikou grinned at her.

Name: Bri Anne (A/N: Comment if you get this reference.)

Cultivation: Rank 3 9th Level.

Species: Half-Beast (Fire Mammoth)

Raikou looked at her species with confusion. "System, what is a half-beast? There was no mention of them in the books I read."

"Based on your inspection, it seems a half beast is the offspring of humans and beasts. Of course, the beast has to be of rank 7, as only then can a beast take human form."

"So your saying she has a rank 7 parent?" Raikou exclaimed.

"I don't know. My knowledge is limited. You have to read more books for me to get more information to add to my database." The system replied.

He ended the conversation and went to sign up.

The registration form had three dotted lines requiring the applicant to fill in their name, cultivation and profession. Unlike most people, Raikou only had the one name and wrote it down. It had always been this way, as an orphan he was never given a surname. This carried over into his new lives. It never bothered him, as he thought having one name was badass.

He put his cultivation as rank 2 7th level, and his profession as warrior. The form sat there with all the details, as Raikou waited for a worker to come to the desk.

After 2 minutes, an extremely short man came to the desk. "Hi, I'm sleepy." He smiled and shook Raikou's hand.

"Go to sleep then." Raikou replied.

"No, that's my name. I'm sleepy." The worker was unusually cheery.

"What the fuck! Who even has names like that! Where's sneezy and dopey?" Raikou thought.

"I'm going to need a form of ID to prove you are who you say your are."

Raikou pulled out his academy white card and placed in on the desk.

"Oooh, an academy boy! So you must have some talent." Sleepy feigned being impressed.

"Some talent? Motherfucker, I am the most talented man you will ever lay your eyes on." Raikou retorted.

Sleepy put his little hands in the air as a surrender, "Yeah yeah, I'm sorry." He placed Raikou's new adventurer card on the desk and fell asleep on top of it.

Raikou looked at the short man with his face planted on the wooden desk with amazement. "He fell asleep that damn quick!"

He lifted the sleeping man's head and picked up the card. Surprising, he never woke up. The card in his hand had a rough scaly feel to it. It was completely black in colour and had the guild's sword symbol on the front. Raikou flipped it over to see his name and adventurer rank, which was F.

"I need to get some missions done. F rank is pitifully low for someone as kickass as me!"

He went to the mission board and looked through the missions. After some browsing he found a C rank, which was equivalent to the difficult of a 4th rank practitioner.

Mission: Escort the Red Rose merchant company to the AngleLand Kingdom's Royal City.

Rank: C

Reward: 10,000 gold.

Raikou picked this mission, as it allowed him to travel to a medium-ranked kingdom. There would be stronger people there and more people to show off to. The reward and rank showed that it may not be an easy task to escort the group. He ripped the mission sheet off the wall and took it to Sleepy.

He slapped him on the back of his and woke him up. "Hey, wake up! I want to take a mission." He handed him the sheet.

Sleepy rubbed his eyes and looked at the mission. "A C rank mission? You're too weak, find another one."

"I want this one." Raikou looked at Sleepy determinedly.

"Ok. Hope you don't die... I will log this into the system under your name. You can go to the guild in the AngleLand Royal City with proof of completion and you will be given the reward."

Raikou was confused. "Doesn't the merchant group give the reward?"

"They do, but they give it to the guild. And we then give it to those who complete the mission. Be at the entrance of the guild in 2 hours, the mission was really close on it's deadline."

Raikou nodded and left the building.
