67 Qualitative Changes

Raikou could feel the breakthrough coming. It was a simple breakthrough, as he had been at the general level for a long time now. It was as if his body was beckoning him to breakthrough immediately.

His whole body surged with power and he had to hold onto his conciousness to prevent any mishaps.

A phenomenon far outstripping Ghost's appeared in the sky. He couldn't look up, but Ghost was in awe of what he was witnessing.

Clouds were gathering above the camp, as if they were being summoned here. They circled above where Raikou was sitting and thundered with fury. A multitude of lightning bolts came crashing down on him, but they were blocked. A disc of light had covered his body. It consisted of the 7 colours corresponding to the elements.

The Omni-Cultivator was one that the heavens didn't seem to favour. The thunder roared louder and louder, as if challenging him. The lightning bolts increased in number and power, trying to break through the shield of light.

Raikou stood up and gazed at the skies. "Attacking me? It will cost you, because I Shall Seal The Heavens!" He roared and smiled at his clever reference.

(A/N: Oh come on, it was a prime opportunity for some shamelessness.)

He needed to reach rank 4 as soon as possible. The phenomenon was likely to attract cultivators from everywhere. To resist them, he would need this qualitative change that the barrier between rank 3 and 4 brings.

"Ghost. I am coming to the final point of the breakthrough and I won't be able to move or speak, so stand over me. If the bolts get through the shield, I want you to run. Listen to me, you must run." Raikou looked Ghost directly in his eyes to show the seriousness of the situation.

He nodded in reply and Raikou closed his eyes to prepare.

Time flew by as he was seated and trying to resist the tribulation that come. He put all his energy into the shield of light that had conjured, hoping the lightning bolts wouldn't breakthrough. His body was covered in beads of sweat that were hitting the floor like raindrops.

The thunder got louder and louder until it had seemingly reached the peak of its anger. One singular lightning bolt was slowly forming that has shades of violet within it. The heavens were preparing one last attack to prevent his breakthrough.

Ghost knitted his brows. He had counted the number of bolts that came crashing down for future breakthroughs. Six hundred and sixty five bolts had attacked Raikou so far and this was the last one.

"What could this mean?" Ghost thought. It hadn't been the first time such a number had popped up and it certainly didn't feel like the last.

Raikou could feel the presence of a stronger bolt forming and prepared himself. It came crashing down and clashed with the shield. The lights slowly dimmed and cracks began forming on the shield.

The lightning bolt felt like it had sinister intentions, as it finally broke through and connected with Raikou's body. His whole body tensed up under the attack of the heavens. It was a cruel deterrence, but not one that would work on him.

The bolt finally gave up and retreated and Raikou was still sitting in the lotus position. There was barely anything left of his clothes; they were torn from every possible area and only his waist was covered at this point. His body was completely black from soot and his hair had been burnt off. The eyelashes that he had left fluttered as he opened his eyes, a flame flickering within.

He smiled. The attack hadn't stopped his breakthrough and had even benefited him. His body's toughness had gone up by 50 with the bolt somehow reinforcing his body.

"Good things truly do come from the bad."

Suddenly, a notification rang out.

Ding! You have broken through to rank 4!

- Species changed to Human/Numen (Godly Meridians fused with body completely.)

New abilities from bloodline:

- Mimicry (Change into any form. Cannot be detected by anything.)

- Erebus (Transform into a being of darkness. Increases the user's realm by 1. Body will lose all stats for 6 months, 1 hour after usage.)

- Ao (Transforms into a being of light. Heals everything, including user, within a 100m radius of most injuries/illnesses. Body will lose all stats for 12 months, 1 hour after usage.

Raikou looked at the notification in disbelief. His species had suddenly changed and he had no idea why.

"What is a Numen? It does sound cool though." Getting up, he found a mirror and looked at his reflection. His body was devoid of any sign that he had been hit by lightning. Jet black hair flowing down to his waist and his body had increased in muscle mass. He looked imposing, like Ichigo when he fought Aizen.

He noticed something else. His iris had turned violet in colour, with his pupil turning a lighter shade of the same colour. The look was mystifying and pleased Raikou.

"I look sexier somehow..." It was both a blessing, but also an insult, as he believed he couldn't get any sexier.

The clothing he had bought and found a while back had been incinerated. The aurora light vest was gone, along with his cloak and leather set. He needed to go shopping soon.
