1 Beginning

"It's not like Neil's usually in law." The man who had just spoken voiced the thoughts of his friend who focused on staring into the field.

While his friend was still silent paying attention to the same direction. Through the transparent glass on the window next to where he sits. Staring at someone in the field standing alone, while covering his head with a book. Under the scorching sun this morning.

"Skylar, let's just get out." Faiz was standing, he was supporting his body on one leg. Staring at Skylar who still hasn't responded. "Skylar?"

Skylar turns his gaze to Faiz, confused looks begin to be painted on his face. He asked, "What?"

"We'll go to the cafeteria, come in." Faiz starts waiting impatiently. It's true that Skylar didn't notice at all that he was talking like he was talking to a wall. While his friend is busy with his own world.

"Okay." Skylar started walking first, dragging his feet out of the bench. Faiz immediately catches up with Skylar, who instead leaves him with a wide stride.

Skylar walked into the canteen deliberately taking the path that crossed the ceremonial field, a reason that makes sense for Skylar is that this road is the closest. His dark brown eyes squinted in the morning sunlight, trying to keep his eyes staring straight ahead. Faiz grunts, fully understands his purpose.

"Skylar! Slow down." Faiz steps up quickly following Skylar. Skylar's long legs make it difficult for Faiz to match Skylar's wide stride.

"Uh, Skylar!" Someone yelled at Skylar. Faiz immediately turned toward the sound. Ah, someone standing next to the flagpole with a book on his head, being the reason for how Skylar suddenly froze for a moment. Not because he screams like a fool in the middle of a deserted field. Not.

"That's your twin call." Faiz whispers quite loudly, while nudging Skylar's arm with his elbow. But Skylar doesn't seem to care if he still steps up, but with a slower pace. Faiz scrambles but he continues to walk along with Skylar.

"Skylar!" Someone's still screaming for Skylar.

"What!" Skylar stopped, he turned to look at the man. Faiz was eager to hit Skylar in the head because of the hardness of his head.

The man's guts shrink when he sees Skylar staring at him. "Well, it's not."

Then Skylar stepped away. After a long time Faiz asked, "How long do you want to pretend like this?"

"Until he remembers."

"Neil, I won't remember. That's why you help remind." Faiz is upset, because his friend did nothing to remind Neil, his twin. His efforts are just one, appearing before Neil as often as possible. Skylar even acted like he hated Neil.

'I don't have any other way. I'll probably do something with Neil when I know I didn't make a promise." Faiz shut up. He understands.

When he arrived at the cafeteria, Skylar didn't seem to be ingesting for a meal, he just ordered a drink. Several people began rushing to their respective classes after hearing the bell ringing loudly.

Faiz and Neil don't want to leave, they have hundreds of reasons they will give teachers for their delays. And who teaches this time the type of teacher who only gives assignments without caring for his students. But as usual Faiz always wanted to rush in, cornering himself in that enclosed space.

"I sometimes think, Neil's just pretending." Skylar said it while stirring a green drink with his straw. His tone sounded unsure, making Faiz almost think so.

"I want to ask."

"Just ask me times, it's complicated," Skylar said, making Faiz step on Skylar's shoes. You know, Labil.

"Never did Neil lie to you?" Faiz is waiting for Skylar's answer. The meatballs he ordered have started to cool down, Faiz has to finish it quickly and go back to class. Faiz sees Skylar thinking for a moment.

"Back when we were together, he sometimes lied to mom sometimes with dad. It's also because I always make mistakes. But to lie to me, it feels like he's never been. He always told me everything, just me." Skylar sipped his drink to the toilet and slightly oversleed his white shirt.

"For what reason he pretended to forget. If he did that, you'd be the first person he told me about. Just believe it. If he needs to remember, maybe we don't know what caused it. Neil's life has been hard, ever since you and your mother left. I'm sure of that." Faiz scooped the last piece of meatballs. He looks at Skylar to see if Skylar begins to abandon his childish nature.

"Then, why is he trying to get along?" asked Skylar, raising his eyebrows.

Faiz wiped his face. "I told you, you showed up around Neil in every spare time at school. It's as if you hate it. He's a good person, obviously he's trying to be friendly."

"I don't think about it." Skylar ducked down and rubbed his fingers.

Faiz exhaled, then he stood up. "Let's go to class."

"I'm lazy. You're all right." One by one the people in the cafeteria have started to leave.

"If you want to skip the try, Skylar."

"You go first." Skylar gives Faiz a annoying smile that instantly keeps him going.

***

Skylar returned to class on the same path. Walked slowly, with his body strapping. His eyes rolled to the flagpole to see the existence that had disturbed his mind. But his dark brown eyes couldn't find what he was looking for. Skylar shrugs, acting like he doesn't care.

Skylar switched goals as he stepped into the toilet in different directions from his class. In the current study hours there are no students other than himself who roam outside the classroom. Makes Skylar grateful.

When he opened the toilet door Skylar found a lot of ash smoke racing out of the door he opened. Skylar's feelings start to get bad, because he can't see what's going on in there yet. Skylar got rid of his doubts, he broke in. Thinking about the possibility of someone needing help in there. Skylar's breath was slightly tight and small, his gaze slowly clearly visible as the smoke began to thin.

Skylar sees his classmate standing in front of the sink glass, but what makes Skylar ask is a strange smile that expands when his eyes are crossed with Skylar's brown eyes.

"You, okay" Skylar asked silently between them. He still can't get away with staring at his friend. Although he's not very familiar in class, Skylar knows his friend is a quiet man.

Davi. The name of Skylar's friend who is now turned back in the mirror facing Skylar who is still staring at him is worried.

His smile hasn't faded yet, making Skylar shudder a little. Skylar is still quietly waiting for an answer, he even forgot what his purpose was here.

"I'm perfectly fine. Did you see anything earlier?" Davi asked in a jovial-sounding tone. It's not very suitable to blend in with an introvert like Davi.

"Just smoke. Why?" This time Skylar was really curious, his eyes didn't see anything or any burn marks inside the toilet. Only the remnants of smoke out of nowhere began to thin out, hovering around Skylar and Davi. For cigarette smoke, it can't be that much and odorless.

"I've eliminated someone." Davi again speaks cheerfully, looking awkward at Skylar's hearing. Skylar felt a cold sweat in the palm of his hand, Skylar wasn't afraid of anything. But sometimes her body has the opposite reaction to what he feels. For Davi's words just like it doesn't sound playful.

"Obliterate?" asked Skylar carefully. Maybe this is just a joke for Davi. But the joke doesn't sound funny.

Davi nodded strongly. "I obliterated it in a game I had planned a long time ago."

Skylar doesn't know where he's going, he doesn't understand. What game? It's weird.

Before Skylar responded, Davi walked aside patting Skylar on the shoulder. "I went to class first. You also have to go to class quickly, before the teacher reduces your grades."

Davi passes in front of Skylar and disappears behind the door. Skylar was silent for a moment.

Subtract value?

Since when does the teacher reduce grades just because of the length of time out of class. Even ditching won't reduce the value. Was that a joke, too? Skylar's humor is low.

Skylar stepped closer to the sink. He turned the tap and held water in both palms of his hand then washed it to the face. Cold water soaked the surface of his skin, he did it over and over again. Skylar likes it.

He dried his face with tissues placed in a container attached to the wall. Skylar glanced at the mirror to see the reflection of his face. Skylar's eyes squint as he looks at a slightly cracked mirror slowly becoming smooth without cracks. He passes his gaze to the other side, Skylar capturing the same thing.

Skylar's long finger rubbed the crack slowly. Skylar was immediately shocked, as the cracks quickly became smoother and disappeared. Skylar pulled his hand.

What's wrong with today?

Skylar tries not to care, he chooses to leave the toilet to go to class. Ignore everything that just happened. About smoke and mirrors.

When Skylar steps closer towards one class before class he is. He accidentally glanced inside through the transparent glass attached to the window. He saw Neil asleep in the classroom. While the teacher was explaining the lesson on the board. The sunlight that shines right towards Neil makes Skylar eager to come close the curtains tightly.

Until when Skylar should pretend not to care. To his own brother. The twin. Neil forgets himself even his mother, so how Skylar has to act. He was supposed to be with Neil in his tough times. Even Skylar doesn't know how Neil can forget everything.

Five years they've been apart and one year ago Skylar had to pretend not to know. Just a stupid promise from his father, which he should have denied for a long time.

Skylar sees Neil's back moving. Then his face was lifted from the folds of his hands on the table. Skylar was shocked when Neil's beaded eyes suddenly collided with his eyes. Some people say that someone will feel if they are staring even if they don't see it. Skylar did not break the contact, nor did Neil remain silent.

But a second later Skylar saw Neil waving his arms at him and he shouted loudly, "Skylar!"

Skylar's eyes widened, he could feel all the pairs of eyes in the classroom turning towards Neil and then towards him, not least the teacher who was teaching inside.

Skylar felt like breaking the glass and throwing his shoes right into Neil's innocent face.

Not wanting to create an increasingly bizarre moment, Skylar moves on from there on a brisk walk. He felt his ears heat up.

Disgraceful. You idiot!

***

Skylar kept walking towards his class, then something hit him the head. Followed by a stinging pain in his head. His hand touched the forehead of something wet felt on his senses of taste. Blood.

Skylar quickly looked up on the second floor, his gaze suddenly blurring in keeping with the bright light. But slowly recovering, he couldn't believe who he was seeing. That' s it, Davi. Grinning while pointing his middle finger and then just walk away.
