9 Properties And Its Types

-CEDRIC-

"Property"

After Mr. Cruz states the term, he moves his right hand, with the whiteboard marker clutched to it, and writes the same term on the board.

As I watched him write, I can't help but be amazed by his neat penmanship. I mean, compared to mine, who's now in my high school years but the penmanship looks like that of a grade school pupil.

"It is a term used to describe the extraordinary powers that each of you possesses." I saw him again write something on the whiteboard then point at it once he's done.

"Alpha is the term used for the person who possesses a property."

I slightly gaped in awe. So that's why this section is called as Alpha Section. Suddenly, this 'whole supernatural thing' is making a lot of sense now.

"There are three types of properties." Mr. Cruz pauses for a moment as he writes the words: TECHNICAL, NEUTRAL and LETHAL on the whiteboard.

"First type is known as Technical. Properties that belong here are those that have an ability to produce, create, or compose things."

"Examples of this are our well-known scientists, great musicians, and great inventors of all time. These people are the best examples of Alphas who possess technical properties."

"Second type is known as Neutral. Properties that belong here are those that, if used well, cannot harm anyone and don't have any direct effect against others. These are also common or mostly can be found in Alpha Group, like the one you witnessed yesterday."

'Last but not the least is Lethal..."

Our adviser suddenly decided to pause again, and gave each one of us his meaningful stare.

"As the name implies, properties that belong in this type are those that have a direct contact with others, thus can cause harm to them or to the user itself... if not used properly. Most of the properties belonging under this type are considered deadly."

I almost gasped by what I've just heard about the last type of property. And just like me, I saw some nerve-wracking expressions on my classmates as well when I decided to look around here.

"But don't worry guys-" Mr. Cruz then continued. "-that's the reason why we have this special training class. And that is for you to harness your capabilities of dealing with each of your properties to prevent any untoward incidents in the future."

With our adviser's statement, I felt relieved in an instant just by hearing that alone. If ever I do have a hidden power within me, I don't want to end up hurting other people with it.

"Do you have any questions on this part before we proceed?" asked by our adviser.

I saw his gaze landing on his right as I saw that brunette-haired girl raising her right hand.

"What's your property sir, if you don't mind me asking?" the brunette-haired girl asked.

And with that, all eyes are now on our adviser as we patiently wait for his answer.

"Let's not focus on my property for now. You'll eventually know it in due time." Mr. Cruz answered as he let out a smile.

Some of my classmates groaned because they were kinda disappointed with his answer. Even I was disappointed too, no doubt about that.

"Well, if you don't have any further questions aside from that, then let's proceed to your task for today." Mr. Cruz made another pause as he placed both of his hands on his desk.

"I want you to go in front and state your properties based on what you've observed you can do so far all throughout your life... Anyone wants to go here first?"

After our teacher gave us the call to proceed in front, I then saw that student who let us witness his telekinesis power yesterday raised his right hand. Once his name was called out, he immediately stood up from his seat and went in front.

"Hi. I'm Dwayne Gonzales, freshman student from section 1. As you all know, I have a telekinesis property which has the ability to move things with your mind. Ever since I was a kid, I'm already known as a math and physics prodigy. So with just the right calculation of distance and height I want..."

He paused for a moment and lifted up his right index finger, causing Mr. Cruz' chair to float.

"...I can make anything ascend with it." Then he decides to bring back down the teacher's chair according to its last position earlier.

"But I think there's something more to my power-" our classmate continued in which we thought he was finished explaining already. "-and I believe I can discover it here in our class."

At this point, he was finally finished sharing about his ability in the whole class and went back to his seat.

"Thank you Mr. Gonzales. Who wants to go next?" asked by our adviser again as he looks at each one of us.

I was kinda intrigued when I saw that blind girl named Elise raised her right hand, then she immediately stood up and went in front once her name was called out by our teacher.

"I'm Elise Salviejo. As you can see, I am blind. But because of my property, I can freely move everywhere I wish to go... and that is called as Seismic Sense." she gives off an introduction in her monotonous voice, without a trace of emotions in her seemingly angelic face either.

"I can feel each vibration in my surroundings from both living and nonliving things. I can also detect each individual's personality by the beating of their hearts, and can detect other person's properties as well." she explained without changing her tone even just one bit.

Ohhh... now I get it. It all makes sense to me now as to why she can freely move even though she's blind... is because of her property.

And if it's true... that she can detect other property possessed by another individual, then that means she really meant it when she said, on our first encounter, that she can sense that 'something special' within me.

I have powers... like them. However, I don't have any single clue as to what kind of hidden ability I possess.

After Elise went back to her seat, I saw another unfamiliar girl who had an auburn hair, which was tied into a bun, now making her way in front. I can sense a positive aura just by merely looking at her.

"Hi everyone!" she beamed. "I'm Karen Rosquillo, a freshman student from section 2. So I do have this electric property... wait, lemme just show it to you guys for you to understand it well."

We all saw her moving back to her seat once again to grab something from her backpack. Later on, she went back in front with her cellphone in her right hand and with a charger attached to it. Then she asked Mr. Cruz to hold her phone in which the teacher gladly obliged.

"So whenever my heartbeat raises... like when I feel I'm in danger or if I'm feeling tense... I can instantly produce electricity." she explained.

Without uttering a word, she suddenly jogged without leaving her place, and once she looked satisfied with her running, she quickly grabbed for the tip of her charger.

I was a bit astonished when I saw her phone light up the minute she touched the tip of her charger. It simply means that her phone is now in a charging mode.

"Wow! You're a walking power bank!" my seatmate here suddenly exclaimed, which caught everyone's attention. I quickly nudged him with my right fist.

When Karen went back to her seat, I was a bit surprised to see Warren stood up and went in front, with his right hand buried on the right side of his brown slacks.

"I have a technical property, which is known as the invention property. I can create a lot of things with my creative mind, even if it's from scraps of metal or from trash, just like the sticker I've used yesterday. Whatever it is, I can make it functional." he explained upon holding his chin high.

Oh wow. Somehow, his egoistic nature is kinda valid. I admit that I find his property really cool and convenient at the same time.

After that brief introduction, next to him are the twins. With a lopsided grin on their faces, they went in front and faced the whole class.

"Hi I'm Eli." said the twin who wears thick glasses with ebony black hair which was arranged in a clean cut manner, adding to his geek-ish look.

"And I'm Emmet Summers." his twin brother followed, which has the exact opposite style from his twin brother.

Unlike his brother, he emits this bad boy aura with his tousled ebony black hair, an earring attached on one ear, and that slick grin curved up on his lips.

"So together, we have the Synchronize property wherein whatever each of us felt can be felt by the other." explained by the twin who looks more of a bookworm than his brother.

"Example..."

I heard Eli asked Kylie over here to be their volunteer of spanking one of them in their right shoulder, to which the girl willingly obliged.

"Ouch!" the bookworm reacted even though the one that Kylie hit was his twin brother Emmet.

After that, Kylie then went back to her seat.

"However, we haven't discovered our own potential as individuals..." said by Emmet.

Eventually after the twins shared their thoughts, I saw Sasha stood up from her seat and went in front.

"Hi. I'm Sasha Vasquez, freshman student from section 1. Based on my experiences, I thought I was just a naturally born goddess of beauty that's why most of the guys here in this school had a crush on me."

Sasha paused for a moment and took her sweet time to bat her eyes and let out a somewhat seductive laugh.

"But later on, I find it weird that girls are also, literally, attracted to me, and not to mention animals as well. So that being said and done, later on I found out in this class that I have a Pheromone property."

"If I chose to switch on my powers, I think I'm releasing the chemical substance: pheromone, which we all know can affect the behavior or physiology of others."

I almost jumped out from my seat when I heard my seatmate laughing out loud all of a sudden.

"So that means you can easily be a target of guys, girls, cats, dogs, frogs, rodents-"

"Oh come on, just shut up." Sasha chose to cut him off by batting her eyes at him seductively and with her oh-so-sweet voice.

As my gaze landed on my seatmate, I saw Mitch's face tainted with red as he blushed heavily while looking at the girl in front of us.

I tried to look at this girl also, and surprisingly though, it seems that it doesn't have any effect on me. I think Sasha is just not my type, that's all.

"However, I do believe that I don't have to use this property more often since I was, again, born gorgeous already. That's all."

After she was finished explaining, or rather, bragging about her looks in the whole class, Sasha finally went back to her seat.

So that only leaves me, Mitch, and Kylie who haven't spoken yet about this so-called property.

Clearly, I don't have any idea what my hidden power is. I don't know with these two if they already have a guess what is theirs.

"Mitch..." I called out to my seatmate, almost in a whisper. "Do you know what's your property?"

I saw him shrugged. "Nah. No idea so far."

"Who else would like to share their thoughts in the whole class?" I finally heard our adviser asked when he noticed that no one stood up from their seats anymore.

I was a bit shocked when I saw Kylie raised her right hand and afterwards went in front of the class.

"Hi. I'm Kylie Sullivan, freshman student from section 1. Way back when I was a kid, I already noticed that there's something weird within me. Whenever I touch something, a series of images are instantly flashing right before my eyes along with that thing."

"I thought at first, it was all part of my hallucinations. But ever since yesterday, I did my research at the library. And there... I found out that I have the Reminiscing property. This is the ability to see the past from objects- and possibly- from people if you just grab hold of that thing, or a person's hand."

After Kylie thoroughly explained her ability, I admit I was amazed. I mean, dude... that is an awesome power she got there.

"So in other words... you're a nosy b*tch." Sasha's words suddenly echoed in the four corners of our classroom that caught everyone's attention.

Unfazed by Sasha's sarcasm just a while ago, we saw Kylie took a few steps forward until she reached our classmate's desk. When she is now standing in front of her, she quickly grabbed for her pen that is currently lying on her desk.

"This Parker Pen is so important to you since it was given by a person who holds a special place in your heart." Then Kylie smirks at Sasha. "Want me to share in the whole class who's that special person, huh?"

Her taunting immediately took an effect with this girl since she swiftly grabs for the pen out of Kylie's hands with a distorted look upon her face.

"Back off, you psycho." she says spitefully.

After Kylie was finished sharing about her ability to the whole class, she immediately went back to her seat. That made Mr. Cruz then look at mine and Mitch's direction, as if waiting for our cue to speak in front as well.

"I don't have any idea about my powers for now." I admitted while rubbing the back of my neck.

"Me neither." echoed by Mitch.

"Very well then." Mr. Cruz lets out an exasperated sigh while he glances at his watch.

"It is almost time for your break, so I'll dismiss you for now. Thank you for those who shared their insights about their hidden abilities to the whole class."

Mr. Cruz grabs for an eraser first then wipes off the entire text on the whiteboard before leaving the classroom.

"Let's go to the cafeteria, shall we?" Kylie stood up from her seat and turned to look at us.

"Nah. I think I'll pass for now. I need to do some research to help me know what's my hidden property." I said. To my surprise, I saw Mitch suddenly raised his right hand.

"Count me in." he said.

We saw Kylie then folded her arms and arched one eyebrow at us.

"Look, we have two hours for our break. After we go grab our snack at the cafeteria, we can immediately go to the library. I bet you haven't eaten breakfast yet, am I right?"

Mitch and I looked at each other for a split second before looking back to Kylie.

"Yes." we both said in a flat tone.

In the end, we ended up going to the cafeteria with Kylie before doing the research thing. After all, there's really no point in arguing with girls because they always win over anything. *sighs*

***

Once we finished eating our snacks at the cafeteria, we headed straight at the library. The first thing that I went for is that shelf which contains books about powers.

I hastily pulled out the book with a green cover then sat up at the tiled floor of the library in a cross leg manner. I saw Kylie also did the same on my right while Mitch is still busy checking out some books.

"I think Mr. Cruz isn't pressuring you to know your hidden powers right away. Just take it slowly... sooner or later, I know you'll discover it." Kylie tried to encourage me as she watched me scan the pages of this book I'm currently holding.

"It's not that I'm pressured or something like that..." I said, my gaze is still fixed on the book. "... I just wanted to know what I am capable of."

Getting a bit tired of scanning the pages without finding the answer to my question, I finally closed the book and paused for a moment.

"Or what if I'm not like you guys? What if being on this section is just some kind of a mistake on the director's part?" I added. Confusion is evident on my tone right now.

There was a moment of silence as I was engulfed in my own thoughts... but then Kylie managed to pull me out of it by suddenly holding my right hand and giving it a tight squeeze.

"I know you are one of us..." she said, her gaze never leaving mine. "...and I also know that neither Mr. Cruz nor the director made a mistake in letting you into this section."

Then she gave me a reassuring smile, the kind of smile that can somehow lighten up your darkest moments.

"Thanks." I sincerely said, almost in a whisper.

We remained like that for a few more seconds, until Mitch suddenly decided to break this awkward silence.

"Woah, I hate to cut into your cheesy moment guys... but I need you to see this."

The moment we heard Mitch speak, our hands that had been in touch for a few seconds quickly made their separate ways and we hastily looked away from each other. As we felt the lad joined us here, sitting right next to me, he held up a book that he said he would like us to see.

As we scan its cover, we later find out that this book is the school's latest issue of the yearbook.

"All Alpha Students can be found in this book, even our batch is already here as well." Mitch said enthusiastically.

A few seconds passed, we then started to skim through the pages of this yearbook, starting from one female student only when this section was first organized in the year 1997.

"Oh look at this! It's Mr. Cruz, isn't it? He's looking handsome here... as always. " Kylie beamed all of a sudden as we reached the page for the third batch of Alpha Students admitted in this school. She pointed her right index finger towards our adviser's picture in his youth.

"Now we know that William is his first name."

After marveling at the teenage pic of our adviser for a while, Mitch was about to proceed to the next page when something caught my attention all of a sudden.

"Wait." I stopped Mitch from turning the page, in which he gladly obliged.

"What's wrong Cedric?" asked Kylie with a curious look.

"Look again on Mr. Cruz' batch." I grabbed the book and pointed to where Mr. Cruz' picture was.

"As far as I know, each student in Eastwood High is arranged into numerical order through our IDs, and the same thing applies in our batch." Then my right hand went for Kylie's ID and read her ID #. "Your ID # is A007 for our batch."

Then I also read Mitch's ID # out loud. "And Mitch's ID# is A008."

"I'm sorry, I think I'm still lost. What are you trying to say then, Cedric?" Kylie's brows were knitted together as her forehead creased while looking at me.

"With that logic, if you can observe on this page..." I said as my finger went back in pointing to Mr. Cruz' photo.

"Mr. Cruz is student A006 in their batch. Then the next student after him is..." My right index finger slides to the next photo. "... is A009."

"Which means there are two students missing!"

As realization dawned on both Kylie and Mitch, they looked at each other for a split second with eyes bulging for a bit and mouth slightly gaping.

With that being said and done, we hurriedly went to the shelf where Mitch was able to find this yearbook. Since this is the latest copy, I'm sure there's got to be a copy of it in the year 2000... somewhere around here-

"Found it!" Kylie beamed.

She hastily pulled out the yearbook from its shelf and we then went back to our sitting position earlier. In its cover were the words "YEARBOOK 2000" printed in bold letters.

As we opened its pages and scanned the page to where Mr. Cruz' photo could be found, my hands instantly froze from scanning through the book as soon as we noticed the remains of two pages after Mr. Cruz' photo... that has been likely ripped from the book.

Obviously, these pages have been torn from the book for a reason!

We then noticed Kylie placed one hand on the remains of these torn pages. Oh yeah! She can see the past of a certain thing with just merely touching them.

"Cedric..." her voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"W-why? What can you see?" I immediately cocked my head and looked at her with my forehead puckered and my brows pulled together.

"I can clearly see the faces of these two students missing in the yearbook. One is a boy, the other one is a girl... B-but the guy student-"

She suddenly paused for a moment and turned to look at me. Both of her eyes went round as she did so.

"-he looks exactly just like you..."
