7 Mystery Unfolds

-CEDRIC-

After our teacher for our last period class dismissed us, I went straight to our dormitory. Again, I was a bit surprised to see my best friend Andrew plopped already on his bed while his laptop is also lying in front of him.

When he felt my presence entering the room, his eyes soon shifted towards my direction.

"Bro, you're here! So, how was your first day in Alpha Section?" I knew he'd ask me this.

"It's okay... I guess?" I said in an unsure tone and shrugged at him before continuing to go near my bed and placed my bag there.

"So... What are you discussing so far?" I saw Andrew cocked his head at me while giving me a quizzical smile.

With that question, I stood here, frozen, as soon as I remembered Mr. Cruz' rule #3 echoing in my head.

Well, I get it that we are not allowed to tell anyone about the things that we've discussed... but it won't hurt if I tell my friend here about this ridiculous theory that's going on in my head for a day now, right?

"We haven't discussed anything so far. However..." I paused and took my time to sit on the carpeted floor of the room in a cross-leg manner.

"However?" Andrew said, literally dying to know what I'll have to say to him right now.

"I somehow have this theory that Alpha Section kinda deals with psychic powers... or something like that." I finished off with a serious look on my face, but as expected my friend over here laughed at the idea I had in mind.

"Seriously? Psychic powers?" he said in between his chuckle. Then he already stopped laughing when he saw how serious I look right now.

"Never mind." I eventually gave up on this stupid idea about Alpha Section dealing with psychic powers. "Even me can't also bring myself to believe my theory."

"Bro, you can only see that in movies. Like the one I'm currently watching." he said as he shows to me his laptop screen.

I paused for a moment and stared at the movie currently playing on his laptop screen, which is The Darkest Minds by the way. This has also been one of my favorite movies of all time.

However, what if it can happen in real life as well? Like there'll be a bunch of people possessing the same powers that they have in that movie?

Darn, what am I even thinking right now? I just shrugged all of this psychic power talk away and tried to move on from it.

"Maybe you're right bro." I said to my friend here before climbing up the deck and plopped myself in my bed.

***

The next day, I went straight to room 409 for our special training class with Mr. Cruz. Hmm, wait... even the subject title is kinda weird, I must say.

If this is indeed a special training class, what is that for and what training will we all get from our adviser?

"Good morning Cedric."

As usual, I was greeted by Kylie's energetic voice as I entered our classroom. I greeted her back as well as soon as I was able to reach my seat and put my bag.

When I finally took a seat, I then turned to my right... and as usual I saw Mitch sleeping soundly to his seat.

"So have you come up with a theory now, Cedric?" asked Kylie.

I pushed up my glasses before responding to her. "Unfortunately, I haven't." I said, still denying the stupid theory I've formulated on my head.

"Well, don't think so much about it. I'm sure others haven't come up with an idea as well." I reassured my classmate who had a worried look plastered on her face.

I took my time to glance at each of my classmates who, as usual, have something going on their seats and didn't seem to care about the assignment that our adviser has tasked us to do.

A few moments later, all eyes soon shifted on the classroom door as it opened all of a sudden, revealing the well-built physique of our adviser, and greeted us as he entered the classroom and walked towards his desk.

I immediately turned to my right and hastily woke Mitch from his deep slumber.

"Wait, where is Mr. Gonzales?" Mr. Cruz' forehead creased as he now looked at the empty chair in front of the egotistic jerk.

"I was trying to call him, but he somehow can't be reached for the meantime." That girl seated beside the empty chair was the one who answered our adviser.

"Very well then. We shall proceed to our discussion without him." he said then started to thru meaningful stares to each one of us. "Who can now tell me his or her theory as to why you're all here in this class?"

It didn't take long before we all saw Warren raising his right hand.

"Yes, Mr. Santiago?" As soon as his attention was called out, Warren stood up from his seat but didn't bother to go in front.

"As far as we all know, most of us who belong here are the top notchers on the previous entrance exam before we all enrolled in this school. So without really doing some research, I therefore conclude that we all got here based on our average scores in the entrance exam."

As soon as he was able to explain his idea, I saw him turned to look at me. Oh boy, I know where all of this will end up to.

"Well, except for someone here, who I think only got here because of pure luck."

So after he was satisfied throwing an insult to my face, I saw him smirking as he took his seat again. He really doesn't want to miss the chance of insulting me in front of the whole class.

"Well, thank you for trying Mr. Santiago, but I'm sorry to say that's not the answer I am looking for." I almost laughed as I saw the annoyed look on the jerk's face upon hearing what our adviser just said.

There. Serves you right!

"As what I have mentioned before, Alpha Section is not just about wits. Who else would like to try?" The look in our adviser's almond brown eyes as he stares at each one of us here seems like he's challenging us to go in front and say whatever we need to say.

On my end, I gave his statement a quick thought. If Alpha Section is not about being smart, then there's really something more to it then.

And maybe my ridiculous theory is right!

I started to gather all the courage that I could muster before deciding to share my thoughts in class. However, before I could even raise my right hand, we were all startled to see the classroom door swing all of a sudden. In it entered our classmate, whom we all thought was absent for today's class.

"Mr. Gonzales..." A line appeared between our adviser's eyebrows as he stared at our classmate, who's now closing the door behind him. "Why are you late?"

Instead of answering the teacher right away, our classmate took several steps to shorten his and the teacher's distance in between.

"I already have an idea as to why we are all here." he said with much confidence, which startled all of us.

My forehead puckered as we waited for what he's about to say. However, he didn't utter a word but we all noticed him slowly raising his right hand and concentrating into something behind the teacher.

And the next thing we knew is that Mr. Cruz' chair is now slowly floating a few inches above the ground before our eyes. My mouth flew open at this incredible sight, and so are my other classmates.

"Finally!" Mr. Cruz said with so much amusement on his tone as his lips curved up into a smirk. "Someone from your batch has discovered his hidden power that he possessed."

No. Freaking. Way.

My theory is actually correct! There's really more to this section that no one, outside of the four corners of this classroom, knows about. Except, of course, for its members.

Including me…
