6 Chapter 6 A New Balance

She woke up and ate, then said goodbye, to the wise Freedom, and headed off to the Rocky Cliff to meet Billy. While she was walking to the cliff, she herd sudden noises, and loud ones, at that. She looked up, and saw that male goats were ramming their heads into one another. Once they were done Alpha asked, "Billy are you here? Billy?"

"Yes, I'm here, what do you want?"

"Um, Freedom sent me to find you."

"Oh, Alpha!" Billy changed from being mad to overjoyed. "I was waiting for you! Sorry for the rudeness. We can't trust wolves until we know them."

"How bad is he?"

"Pretty intense, but not like you will cower before him? Hmmmm."

"About that, Freedom told me I need to see you for balance practice."

"Hmmm, yes your balance does seem... off."

"How long will it take for me to be a master?"

"A week or two, but it all depends on how you act too." Other goats soon surrounded Alpha and Billy, looking puzzled.

"Why is there a wolf here?"

"Yeah, I thought YOU said we can't trust them?"

"What are you doing?!"

"Calm down Herd, we can trust her. She's different."

"Different? What does that even mean?!"

"She's going to rule the Columbine pack."

"Ohh, yes." The whole herd said in surprize, and amazement.

"Now if you will let us focus, we can start today." The herd backed down. "Find me an easy test please."

Some goats left to find food, fight or to do what Billy had said.

"Here is the easiest one we could find."

"Thanks." Now switching his position to talk to Alpha. "Now jump onto a rock, all paws land at the same time, watch your bearings, and balance. Use your tail as well."

"Okay." She leapt and… fell. Not such a deep fall, but an easy one.

"Okay, you need to rest and eat."

"Yeah, everyone said that."

"Fetch "our hero" a fine feast, please."

"Yes." An hour later the feast was ready.

"Take your time, no cramps, them rest. By this time tomorrow you will be ready."

She ate and rested, knowing that the forest's fate rested on her shoulders. Worry flooded into her head. She slept, but not too deeply, keeping one eye open.

Weeks passed, and Alpha was gaining more strength and balance everyday. "One more week, and you will be ready."

"Thank you all, but I think I am now. Things are really bad, and I need to fix this mess."

"Okay, well we bid you our luck."

"Thank you." With that last note Alpha was ready for her journey back home.
