Truly, I Am Sorry

[MARINA]

A lady lying on the bed on her tummy, her upper body uncovered. Upon turning around, she has a frown on her face. She turned around again and faced the opposite side. Her body is restless as she tried to get comfortable to sleep.

Clack!

Noises coming from her kitchen. The lady on the bed chose to ignore it. She was tired after pulling an all-nighter.

Clack!

She shut her eyes tight, thinking that might take away the noises coming from her kitchen.

She knew she was wrong; the eyes were for seeing and not for hearing.

Clack!

She bent to pick a pillow from the floor and covered her ears with it. However, it didn't help. Whoever was in her kitchen was trying to wake up non-existence neighbors.

Giving up on her trial to sleep, Marina threw away her sheets and got out of bed. She almost stumbled on the clothes on the floor. She picked them up, folded them, and placed them on the empty stool in her bedroom.

The noises increased.

Marina headed slowly to the kitchen. "A woman in my kitchen." A voice inside her head told her.

Marina stifled a yawn, and called out, "excuse me, will you demolish this house, please?"

The woman in the kitchen didn't hear. She had headphones in her ears, dancing to whatever song that she had played. Marina tried again, and when she got no answer, she walked slowly to the woman and tapped her shoulder.

The woman took Marina's hand and turned around at a fast speed, Marina couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"Hey Marie, you startled me." The woman purred.

"You don't seem startled. At all."

Marina stared at her as she tried to remember her name. Nothing came.

Marina pulled her hands away from her and rubbed her eyes. "I want to sleep. You should go." Marina said softly.

The woman's eyes went to the eggs on the pan and then back at Marina. Marina seeing that told her, "Never mind that. Thank you."

Marina heard her breathe hitched, she wanted to tell her, "Please don't cry." But instead turned around and walked to her love seat. She leaned on it and stared at the woman with her arms crossed over her chest.

The woman glanced at the pan again, and then back at Marina. She switched off the gas, removed her apron, and walked to the bedroom.

Marina waited patiently when the woman came, she said to her, "I am sorry I had an all-nighter. I will call you."

The woman shook her head, "I was your all-nighter."

Marina stretched her hands and got some cash from the love seat and handed them to her. It was received with cold eyes. Marina gave her a sad smile and glanced at the door. The woman got the message and left.

She walked to her window and watched as the woman got into her car and when she drove away, Marina walked back to her bedroom, making a mental note never to bring anyone back home, again.

What she didn't know was, that was the same promise she always made to herself.

Marina eyed her bed with a big smile on her face, she stared at the clock on her table and the smile dropped. Soon, her assistant will call and inform her about their meeting.

She yawned and got into her bed slowly. She brought her cover-up to her head. "Hot, oh, hot!" A voice inside her head complained.

"Lana, I swear you are…" Marina stopped her reply when her phone rang.

Her eyebrows furrowed; she still had an hour before her assistant called. She ignored it.

She changed her position and laid on her tummy.

Ring! Ring!

Marina groaned. She stretched and picked up the phone, and without looking at the caller ID, she answered it.

"What?" She started.

The other person on the other line stifled, and Marina's eyes opened immediately. "Ivy?"

"Your father is dead. You have to…"

Click!

Marina ended the call and placed the phone back on the nightstand. In less than a minute the call came again. She stared at it.

Marina leaned on the headboard and picked up the phone, she searched for her aunt's number and called her.

Doctor Bedelia was inside her chamber, her effort to stop her tears from streaming turning futile. When her phone rang, she wiped the tears off of her face and picked it up. It was a video call. Marina's face came to view.

"It is true," Marina stated. Just from staring at her aunt's face, she knew her mother was not wrong.

"Yes. I am sorry. It was not my place to call."

"No. I am sorry."

"You need to come home."

Marina said softly, "she finally managed to kill him. Uh?"

"Marina." Doctor Bedelia warned.

"What, I am just asking. What else am I supposed to say."

"Just come home."

"I am truly sorry aunt; you two were close. Right?" Marina asked, unsure.

Doctor Bedelia nodded a question on her face, wondering why her niece could ask her something like that. Everyone in the pack knew how close Alpha Fisher was to his sister.

She studied her niece. As much as she wanted to believe she meant it, she couldn't because one she was the one who was supposed to tell Marina she was sorry, after all, her father is dead and two, her statement about 'she finally managed to kill him.'

They spent a few seconds staring at each other and when Doctor Bedelia realized that was it, she told Marina again that she should come back to the pack and ended the call.

Marina stared at the black screen as her right hand went to her cheek.

Nothing.

No tears.

She closed her eyes and slipped slowly into her covers. One thing is for sure, Marina Fisher didn't have a plan to cry anytime soon. The phone fell to the floor and as always, she ignored it.

In less than ten minutes, soft snores could be heard from her.
