Chapter 69 Her Broken Mate

'Man! Wake up!" shouted Thunder in a panicked tone.

'What...?'

Suddenly, loud screams and yells woke them up completely. Another shattering of something shook the entire pack house. Her eyes blinked, trying to adjust to the lighted room.

Who the hell is screaming so loud so early in the morning?

She rolled over and almost fell out of bed, but Thunder was going up and down in her head, growling. She kept whimpering, 'Go to your buddy. He needs us. Go.'

No questions asked, she obeyed and wrapped herself in a robe, for it was chilly in the morning. She got out of bed, went to her bathroom and washed quickly before heading out the door.

She scanned her surroundings, keeping an eye out for her companion, who was not in his room.

Strange...

Without warning, another crash sounded through the hallway in his office. A pang of fear spread through her, not knowing what was happening or what was in his office. She feared the worst. She tiptoed to the door and peered through the entrance. There she saw a woman who looked haggard and smelled of alcohol.

The woman grimaced in disgust and could not help but laugh at the fact that she probably had not showered in weeks.

She was holding a broken bottle and yelling a string of expletives at God knows who. It seemed like she was talking to herself, but Sarah knew she was not. Why was she here?

As Sarah looked further into the room, all she saw was her buddy in the corner, cowering in fear. The room was a mess. The desk was flipped up and files were all over the floor. A pile of broken glass lay on the once beautiful wooden floor, along with spilled liquor.

The woman took a step toward Sarah's buddy and pulled him by the collar. Sarah could see him gasp in fear before she suddenly slapped him. Hard.

"You son of a bitch, I should have aborted you when I had the chance! This is all your fault!"

Before she raised her hand again, this time hitting him with the broken glass bottle, Sarah could hear a whimper from her companion, who continued to endure her abuse.

The smell of blood grew stronger.

When Sarah saw this, she became indignant, as Thunder growled louder and coated her skin. A growl escaped her as her claws grew.

Before she could land another hit, Sarah grabbed her by the wrist. The woman turned quickly, shocked to see someone standing behind her. Her expression changed from surprise to a grin. She dropped Seth and flung him to the side with a thud. Another whimper escaped from her companion.

"Who are you?!" she slurred, resisting Sarah's grip on her wrist. Ugh, her breath smelled like alcohol.

Sarah's eyes narrowed and sparkled with anger. "I am the Luna of this pack. Who are you and how dare you touch my mate?" she seethed and her claws dug into her skin until she spurted blood. She would have loved to break her hands completely.

The woman's face turned into a scowl, annoyed at her wording. "You? Luna? I am the Luna of this pack! Do you have any idea who I am? I am Luna Stella! HOW

DARE YOU!"

Sarah let go of her wrist and lunged at her, her hand grabbing her throat and flinging her to the ground. Her wolf wanted blood, especially hers.

Her fangs were bared, outraged that it was this woman who had hurt her mate. "Luna Stella did you say? That's a good story, but in what chapter do you shut up?" hissed out Sarah.

If this was Luna Stella, it did not look like it. The last time she saw her, she was more graceful and beautiful. That was many years ago and she looked like a completely different person.

Sarah scoffed, gripping her tighter by the throat. Stella wriggled and gasped for air.

"Let go of me, you bitch! That hurts! Let go!" she screamed, partly shrieking. Her voice sounded like nails scratching across the chalkboard.

Frantically, she began clawing at Sarah's arms, grabbing at anything she could hit her on the head, but Sarah paid no attention. Compared to Seth's pain, it was nothing.

Just thinking about it made her even angrier and she dug her claws into Stella's neck until she passed out.

Stella went limp, but she could hear a faint heartbeat.

Thunder kept encouraging her to kill her, but she held back. She would go to pack prison if she did, and she was not sure Seth would still consider her his mate if she killed his mother in front of him.

With her limp body under Sarah, she slowly stood up.

Stella winced, her arms hurting like hell. She touched the side of her head and felt only the wet drops of blood. The smell of copper filled the hall and could soon alert the whole pack house. The mixture of her alpha's blood and Luna's blood.

Sarah had to act quickly. She turned her attention back to her mate, who sat trembling in the corner. She carefully dodged any materials or whatever was left of his office and crouched down to his level. He had several cuts and bruises, and as far as she could tell, they were recent.

Hesitantly, she reached out her hand and tried to touch Seth. He only began to tremble more and slapped her hand away in fear.

The touch echoed in the room and Thunder howled in pain as she tried to help him. She felt hurt for just a moment, but she knew it was not his fault.

He's scared.

"Seth... I promise I will not hurt you. I am just here to help. Let me help you, please." she pleaded with him, tears pricking her eyes again. It felt like he was rejecting her and it hurt so much to be helpless to the people you care about.

Her companion, a six-foot-tall man, looked like a giant baby. It was strangely adorable as he cowered in the corner of his office. He looked uncertain, wondering whether to trust her or not. To her surprise, he slowly reached out his hand and she quickly pulled him into a hug. At first he tensed at her touch, but after feeling the spark, he relaxed and then broke into a sob.

She held him close, knowing he needed her more than ever. It felt comforting to have him all wrapped up in her arms, even though she was the one who was there for him.

Finally, he stopped sobbing and just sniffled. She could only kiss him on the forehead and stroke his back.

She whispered, "It's going to be okay."

After some time, Seth, who had his head buried in her neck, leaned back and looked at her. My goodness, even after all that crying, he still looked so stunning.

She blushed suddenly and realized she was sitting on his lap as she comforted him. He tilted his head in confusion but gratitude before touching her cheek.

This only made her blush more.

At this rate, she will die if he continues to get too close.

Not wanting to be the only one embarrassed, she hastily wiped away a stray tear from his face. Sparks flew and Seth grew sheepish as he too realized where she was. She could have sworn she suddenly felt something on her hip.

It was not long before her peaceful silence was disturbed.

"My God, what the hell happened here?"

When she turned around, it was Ryan she heard. She made a guess and asked directly, "Are you the Beta now?"

Ryan nodded in response to her question and stopped in the doorway. He then looked down and saw an unconscious Stella. "You could have just taken the trash out completely. I would have done it myself if I'd known she'd gotten out." he muttered, looking displeased.

She rolled her eyes, "Is that all you have to say? Get the pack doctor."

"He's already on his way. More importantly, Alpha, are you okay?" said Ryan in a concerned voice.

Seth, pretending to be her chair, still nodded sheepishly. Oh, the thing that was hard under her was now soft. She wondered what it was.

'Wouldn't you like to know, human.' Thunder grinned.

'No... Actually, no.'

She cleared her throat and sat up from Seth's lap. He did the same to her and his features turned to disappointment. Huh?

Was he not shy just a moment ago? Why is he sad?

Shrugging, she looked to Ryan for answers.

"So, you want to tell me what just happened?" Ryan asked, now standing in front of them.

She murmured sadly, yet irritated. "His mother happened. I got her fucking ass in position. That's what she gets for laying hands on my friend," she said as her unconscious body lay on the floor.

He seemed deep in thought before turning to Seth. "Shouldn't you tell her, Seth? Her mother escaped because the guard did not do his job right. The son of a bitch took some alcohol she offered him and passed out. I do not know how she bribed him, but apparently he just turned sixteen and was excited to drink with a Luna. He snuck up to the cabinets with the alcohol in his backpack and gave it to her. It seemed like she promised to make him an alpha or something if he let her have some alcohol. Since he is a new guard, he must have gotten greedy. He's the rogue we took in a week ago."

She frowned, "And I suppose since he knows she's the Luna, he thought he'd have a chance to become Alpha if he mated with Stella... and since all she asked for was alcohol, he assumed again she was stupid and easy. Since he had little chance of losing and was originally a villain, he just went along with it. I mean, getting alcohol is easy, but getting the title of alpha is difficult. He probably thought it was too good to be true, but he did it anyway."

"That's right. I had to interrogate him because he was the one who was supposed to watch over her. It was my mistake to let him into the pack, so I took care of him. I thought everyone deserved a second chance like Emily gave me, but it was not meant to be with him."

For further explanation, Stella was still Luna because the ceremony in which Sarah became Luna had not yet taken place. When an Alpha's offspring finds his mate, the title of the old couple is eventually removed from him and transferred to his offspring and his mate. Therefore, the rogue thought he had a chance to become Alpha if he could just get Stella some alcohol. He suspected that he would have a better chance of becoming Alpha if he got in good with Stella.

Without your mate by your side, you can not become Alpha or Luna yet.

Seth, who was in a daze, just nodded at Ryan's and Sarah's words. He gave Ryan permission to tell her everything she wanted to know after that. At that moment, the pack doctor came rushing in. He seemed shocked by the mess, but cleared his throat.

He took his stethoscope and some bandages out of his pocket and stood in front of Seth.

He tended to his injuries and helped them get Seth to bed.

According to his instructions, Seth needed a day of rest until all wounds were healed. They are werewolves, so fast healing abilities are something they are blessed with.

She then returned to her bedroom, Ryan following.

"Are you ready to learn about Seth?" asked Ryan cautiously, taking a seat in one of her chairs in the room.

She nodded anxiously.

Ryan took a deep breath and began.
