35 The breakfast-cafe living room.

"What is this?"

Pushing Jacob away from me, my nose scrunched as I stared at the plate in his hand suspiciously.

Directly in front of my face were stacked pancakes, with honey or was it maple syrup dripping down each stack.

Corban took a sniff of the pancake-filled surrounding, "Why does this place smell like a breakfast café? ", not bothering to hide the amusement in his voice.

"I have no idea why." My voice sounded polished and poised. Meanwhile, on the inside, I was already drafting one thousand and one ways of killing Jacob.

Corianne will have to be okay with a dead boyfriend. At this point, I won't rest until that is what he is. Dead.

Dead in my hands.

"Don't look so pissed Makena." Luckily for him, he backed away from us as he spoke, "How was I supposed to know that you were having a guest over??"

"By the way, hi Corban."

Jacob was already seated on one of the couches, setting down the plate on the coffee table in the middle of my living room.

Corban played It cool, making his way to the loveseat, "Nice to see you again Jacob. Did you quit being Makena's chauffeur to become a chef?"

Jacob allowed his deep chuckle to fill the air before responding to Corban.

"I wish." He even had the audacity to continue with a pout, "Sadly, I am still her favorite boring tailor."

"You forgot to add 'soon to be dead' to your features," I muttered inaudibly under my breath, still rooted to the front of my door. I had not made any attempt to join their fest of pleasantries.

"Makena, do you have anything to say?"

Jacob plastered on a sly smirk to let me know that he heard what I assumed was inaudible.

"Yes, actually…."

"What might that be?", his smirk was firmly in place.

"What the hell happened to my house?" From the corner of my eyes, I saw Corban's eyes widen in shock, but that didn't stop me from continuing…"What's with the stacks of pancakes all around???"

"Have you forgotten?"

Anaya questioned, striding into the room also with a plate in her hand. I don't think I need to say what was on the plate.

But just in case you didn't know….pancakes, it was pancakes.

Jacob, Corban, and I whipped our heads toward the direction she came from.

But while I was rooted to the spot, confused, Jacob mused, "I'll let Anaya do the explaining here."

Before she started talking, she shook her head as though to tell me she was disappointed. "Don't you remember???"

I blinked at her, obviously not remembering.

"Today is Wednesday!! You said we should do something fun and spontaneous on Wednesdays."

I still couldn't remember saying something like that. Although, that does sound like something I'll say. But, shouldn't they know better than to take me seriously???

"Okay, but how does that explain the pancakes?" Cocking my head to the side…"Did I suggest that you should turn my house into a restaurant??"

"You said Weird Waffles Wednesday. We tried making waffles but failed terribly so we settled for pancakes instead."

"So basically, you are trying out possible weird pancake combinations?" Corban asked this time, not me.

I had forgotten about his presence here for a hot second.

"Yes. " Anaya nodded enthusiastically in agreement, "Do you want to try it out?"

She didn't bother waiting for his response before yanking him out of the chair and dragging him into the kitchen with her.

I later found out that Aurum and Cory were there too. And of course, they were the "chefs".

Once Corban and Aurum were out of earshot, I allowed myself to let out a loud groan of frustration, face palming, "Why do I always come up with ideas such as that?" I said, asking no one in particular.

Jacob who was still in the living room responded, "We have no idea. But you're the boss so we have to do as you say."

"Pfft", I swatted my arm haughtily, "Not because I'm the boss but because you all enjoy being weird too."

"You know what they always say about birds of a feather flocking together?" Were his last words before he strutted away to join the others in my dainty kitchen that I was certain was already cramped up.

The fear of missing out {FOMO} is an actual thing, trust me. I didn't want to stand in the middle of my living room like a lost person, while my friends, worker, and even my boss were eating away.

So, I did what every sensible person will do and marched into the kitchen, grabbing a plate for myself. Of course, they all hooted as I walked in but that was most definitely a sign of encouragement.

Three hours, a messy kitchen, loud music, and multiple plates later...…

"Well…..That was fun." Corban said to himself as he rubbed his tummy on his way out.

Jacob had to agree, chuckling to himself, "I know right?!!"

I let out an exasperated sigh, watching their interaction. Multiple times during the past hour I wanted to crawl into a hole. After all, it's not every day that your boss stumbles on a pancake madness in your house. It was surprising how unfazed Corban was by the whole situation.

"Didn't you say you needed to give Jotham the documents today?" I ask, trying to get him to leave.

"Yes, yes, I did." Much to your relief, he takes the hint and nods in agreement, "I guess I'll be on my way now."

You had given him the document earlier, so he simply picks it up and walks towards the door. Of course, not before Jacob gives him a bro hug and saying his goodbye.

Meanwhile, I simply nod curtly as he walks past me, and finds his way to the front door.

It's only when he is out of my house that I are able to breathe before turning to face Jacob.

"What was that?!!!"

******************************

When everyone else leaves, just me, Cory, and Aurum. And I am able to glance around, assessing the damage done.

"So many plates…."

Cory who stood beside me also glanced around taking in the mess, "Perhaps you should hire a cleaning crew?"

You would be seriously surprised by just how much mess 6 people can make if they put their minds to it.

It would take days before we would be able to get the pancake smell to go away. Sadly, it was me and Aurum that were stuck living here to clean up the mess.

Speaking of Aurum, she dashed into the living room, calling out my name, "Makena, Makena, you would not believe it!!!"

"Believe what?", "Believe what?" I and Corianne said at the same time gaping at my frenzied sister.

"Jotham just asked you out on a date."
