3 Settling down

After studying her roommate for a while she turned around to observe her room.

Even though it was small, it was enough for three people to stay.

The room consisted of three beds. One was already occupied. She was left to choose a bed among the other two.

Each of them had a table and a small wardrobe.

After a while, "do you mind if I rearrange the furniture in the room" Li Lixin asked looking at Wen Jiao.

Wen Jiao nodded in agreement.

The next few hours were spent rearranging the furniture in the room. Now the room looked more spacious and gave each of them a chance of more privacy.

Both of them felt tired after hours of hard work. They sat down for a while.

Li Lixin started unpacking her stuff soon after a shower. She wanted to settle down things before she had her dinner.

Wen Jiao continued working on her laptop.

After unpacking her stuff, Li Lixin could no longer control her hunger. She took out the dinner her mother had packed for her. Her mother was generous enough to send dinner for her roommates as well.

" Wen Jiao, come on, let's have dinner" Li Lixin invited her to join the delicious home-cooked food. Though hesitated in the beginning Wen Jiao joined in.

Li Lixin understood that Wen Jiao would never initiate any conversation, it was up to her to get Wen Jiao talking.

"my mom had cooked this for me," Li Lixin said enthusiastically.

"This is my favorite food. It is probably the first time I am going to stay away from home. She was really worried about my health. She really thinks that I cannot take care of myself. Mothers are like that"

Li Lixin's gaze turned to Wen Jiao who was silent. Seeing her facial expressions, Li Lixin understood that she had struck a raw nerve.

The room fell silent after Li Lixin realized that her attempt had failed.
