1 chapter 1 the end

There it is again. That annoying beep, it won't go away. I say to myself in hazy though as I am drunk in sleep. 'The alarm!' I yell with a springy jump from my single bed. I'm gonna be late and I haven't even gotten the job yet. It's 7.15, I'm supposed to be there by 8.00 and I'm panicking across my tiny, untidy apartment. After running around in circles like a maniac, I'm finally ready to go. It's 7.37 now and I'm not gonna make it, blame it on traffic, anything will do. I say in thought as I race out of the apartment, almost forgetting to lock the door behind me. 'Mr. Daniel!' I'm startled by Robert Collin, my landlord. As always, he doesn't seem pleased to see me. But then again Mr. Collin is fond of no one, as no one is fond of how he is quite harsh and strict when it comes to his money and most tenants here in the flat either make efforts to pay him on or ahead of time, or they stay a way from him at all costs. 'It's been four months son, and I'm getting rather agitated with chasing after you.' He speaks in a hoarse tone close to my face, and I feel his morning breath hugging my face. 'I'll pay up everything before this month ends Mr. Collin, I promise.' I respond in a low voice and trying not to show that his breath is choking me up and burning my nostrils.

I sprint down the steps because that damn elevator is dead again, I swear I wish instead of asking for rent he'd fix that damn elevator, I pull out my phone to check the time but instead I drop it down the short flight of steps 'as if my life could get any worse my damn phone had to go and meet its maker' I scold myself for being so clumsy, I let out a subtle grunt in annoyance as I pick up my dead phone with a shattered screen and a dangling battery.

I just manage to hail down a taxi after waiting outside on the curve waiting for these yellow mini copper cars to take me to the interview of a job I would be already late for, I hope in sweating from my arm pits because it's so hot and everyone is grumpy "26 banter drive my good ma'am" I blurt out to the young black lady in the drivers side of the taxi, the lady turns around and smiless 'sure thing hun' we take off into the busy roads of Nibiru city.

A city occupied by a million dimwits with no lives, I look out t  window and contemplate how messed up my life is and if I get this job I'll b joining the masses of death and forced to live a life of boredom and death, at least ice cream is still cheap the only joy I get in my life since we'll "she" left me.

The cab driver looked back at me and let out a slight chuckle 'you know life ain't that bad' winked in the review mirror, I smile back and bite my lip for what I don't know, we arrive at our destination I hand her a twenty but, she denies and says it's on her but I insist yet she refuses so I say thank you and let it go.

walk into a huge building looking around at how futuristic it looks, a woman comes up to me and asks if I'm here for the interview and just stare at this woman with beautiful red lips, black hair, and blue eyes, I nod my head then we make our way to the offices in the back 'I thought this interview was on the fourth floor?' I ask softly but she just keeps walking as if I wasn't even there.

We get to a huge door with a hand scanner and a black screen, she puts her hand on the scanner as the machine stands her hand 'that's pretty neat I've only seen those in the I movies haha' I I can't believe I just said something as dumb as that, the room gets colder we approach a silver and black door.

She opens the door and my eyes catch sight of an old man sitting at what seems to be an expensive desk dressed in a black suit and a  red tie with a nameplate in front of him 'M.Morenyo' it read in big bulky don't.

I poop myself by the sheer size of this man so try to avoid eye contact with him as much as possible, he lifts his head and to my surprise, he has the most gentle smile which was surprising coming from such a big man, he stands up and puts his hand out so I do the same, we shake hands and both take a seat.

"thank you for having me today sir, it's an honor to be accepted by company as big as this one" I say with a smile on my face looking at him with confidence His facial expressions changed as I said that, maybe I was too informal maybe I wasn't elegant enough.

Mr. Morenyo simply tore up my resume and told me to leave without even asking me any questions he just ripped it  up asked and asked  me to leave, I was speechless and flabbergasted at what just transpired, I picked up my bag and walked out as if nothing happened.

I lost my one chance and at a good-paying job just because I opened my damned mouth, no wonder everyone looks like a bunch of robots with emotionless expressions, I make my way out the door, and there she was again the tax lady who picked me up the first time "how was the interview go darling?" she said with a smile on he face I was puzzled how did she know I was in an interview?

I get in the taxi and l let out a huge sigh of disbelief, I pull out my dead phone and forgetting that my clumsy ness dropped it down a flight of stairs, she gets in the driver's seat and starts the engine "where to hun?" she said with such joy on her face it was almost disgusting.

"Anywhere but here," I say under my voice,  was almost in tears as nothing in my life was going well, we drive off and in slow mellow movement.

I look at her drivers identification and read put "Mary Magy Christopher wow nice name" I say with a crusty throat "driver's you from if I may ask?" Trying not to sound like a complete, fool

She looks back and smiles "I'm from somewhere far from here sugar, you could say it's almost worlds from here "

I smiled for the first time in a long time at how honest her answer was, it put me in a better mood "how did you know I was in an ininterview?" I ask politely, she just laughs and turns the music up, did I say something bad or did I insult her by asking that? We stop in front of a tall building and she tells me to get out harshly so I do so and stand outside still extremely puzzled as to what had just happened the in past few seconds.

I turn around and read the massive sign on the door "lost but not forgotten funeral home" I read out to myself then proceed to walk in and to my surprise, it was empty in the front so I make my way to the top " I guess this is my last stop" I look over the edge down at the people who were so tiny like ants "Amen," I say and drop off the edge, I fall for what seems like forever and before I could hit the ground I wake up in a dark room, I can't feel my feet or my hands all I can feel on my body is immense heat, is this hell? Maybe I'm dead could be worse I could be working at a fast-food joint like meals are us.

A huge burst of light hits my eyes and a voice almost calming and beautiful "mama is that you?" I blurt out and with that, the voice spoke back to me "I speaketh to thou 13 chances you have to live a second chance, I keep thou in my arms and forgive they sin" it spoke so smoothly was it God or was it Satan.

The annoying alarm ring again and I wake up in my bed, the time was 7:15 am and I had an interview at 8 so I quickly got dressed and ran down the steps, Mr. Robert grabbed my shoulder and asked if I was ok, I just looked at him and ran off, I get to the stairs and run down as time wasn't on my side. I pull out my phone and drop it down the flight of steps, I stop in shock as if it felt like I lived the moment before.

I make it down the steps and pick up my phone making my way out but to my surprise, there was a cab waiting outside already, a lady hops out of the taxi and smiles " hey sugar" she says in a joyful voice, I swear I must be either dreaming or I'm tripping nuts here. I greet her and get in the taxi quietly.

"26 Bentler drive my good.." but before I could finish my statement a huge shock went down my spine "umm 26 Bentler drive please" we drive off but I swear I've done this all before maybe I'm just tired or maybe it was just a dream. But still, I have to know "your names are Mary Christopher right?" she turned back in shock and smiled at me  "it is right?" She smiled and nodded her head. After that, I knew something was up but I still had to get my head back in the games because no matter what I was still a sad person with nothing to lose but one shot, this damn interview.

Before I knew it we had arrived at our destination with 4 minutes to spare, I drop $20 in the front seat but she looked at me puzzled "you don't have gotta pay just kill it in there" she said with a friendly smile on her face, I got out of the cab and ran in but I felt something was off I have no idea what but I feel like something was off.

A woman with bright red lips came to greet me and asked if was here for the interview and I nodded yes, we made our way to the back office where I was yes you guessed it a big man with a gentle smile, I swear this all seems familiar but can't put my finger on it.

I put my hand out before him and introduce myself "my name is Gabriel achingly it a pleasure" I said confidently with a serious look on my face, he smiled and sat down as if the world was given to him on a silver platter, I sit down confidently and unbutton my black suit jacket with my leg crossed and my hands on my lap, we exchange questions and banter and to my surprise, he seems to be enjoying what I have to say about this damned company.

"This is good and all but I'm sorry you aren't what we were looking for your too laid back for what we are looking for thank you for your time" with no expression on my face I get up and leave as if nothing had happened, I slam the door and make my way outside yes you guessed again there she was Mary the cab driver.
