7 Chapter 7 - Luck and Plan

Leone's snoring was the only thing I could hear as my eyes fluttered open and I let out a loud yawn. Both I and Leone had immediately passed out in our beds the moment we'd entered our rooms. I had planned to check my new skills and ask the system some questions before I headed to bed, but apparently, my body had been too tired. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, pulled myself out of my bed, and looked around our room. It was fairly large and had 2 single beds which were actually pretty comfy, a bucket of water and cloth, and finally a table and 2 chairs. I stood and stretched my arms up overhead, hearing a satisfying pop as I did. I headed to the bucket and splashed some of the cold water onto my face to get myself fully awake. I shivered slightly and used the cloth to dry myself.

I then headed to the table and took a seat in one of the chairs, not bothering to wake leone. There was no reason to not let her sleep a bit more. I bought up my status and the transparent blue screen popped up in front of me.

"System," I whispered out loud, "Give me a rundown of my new skills"

[Host should be aware that mentally selecting a skill will show a description]

I blinked, oh, I probably should have tried that first. I mentally selected the two new skills I had acquired and two smaller blue screens popped up in front of the first side by side.

[Defense Force: Gain the defense of a single summon of your choosing. The summon doesn't need to be active for the skill to work. This skill will not work on a summon that is out of commission/resting in storage and will not increase your attack power or physically alter your body]

[Mental Command: You may telepathically send simple mental commands to your summons. Only simple commands, such as Stay, Attack, Stop, Protect can be sent.]

[Host should be aware that skills can be upgraded and improved, but currently, hosts level is insufficient to unlock those system functions]

I nodded my head in approval as I read each skill. Both would be extremely useful and would help a lot in battle and protecting myself from harm. I was annoyed that I could only send very simple mental commands but the system did say eventually I would be able to upgrade and improve skills, so it wouldn't stay that way forever. I mentally used my defense force skill and chose Gible as the summon. Lilah and Leone did have decent defense, but Gible was a pokemon and they could take a lot of damage. Pokemon were resilient and they needed to be because pokemon were mainly used for battle and some of the moves pokemon knew were powerful and destructive as hell. I didn't feel much of a change, but it did say that there wouldn't be any physical changes, so I chalked it up to that.

I closed all the system tabs and bought questions I had for the system to the forefront of my mind.

"Can a summon Level up?" I asked the system. I needed to know if my summons would still be viable further down the line and if I would need to grind levels for them.

[Yes all summons can Level up. Summons will not gain new powers, skills, or abilities by leveling up, but their current/original powers, skills, abilities, mental and physical attributes will grow stronger with each level]

I mentally sighed in relief and once again thanked whoever had designed the system. It did mean that I would eventually need to go level grinding, but it also meant that none of my summons would ever become useless.

"I never asked this, System, but can you name all the ways for me and my summons to level up." It would be best to know if anything other than fighting and questing would help me and my summons gain levels.

[Of course Host. Questing and fighting are the best ways to gains level for yourself, but it is different for your summons. You see summons can level up by doing what they do best. Summons like Lilah, Leone, and Gible who will mainly be used for combat will level up quickest through battle and killing, but let's say you summon a scientist who can not battle. The scientist would still be able to level up by battle and fighting, but they would also be able to level up by researching, developing their scientific abilities, learning a form of magic, or inventing/developing something useful to the host]

I grinned widely as the system finished speaking and felt my excitement grow. If I ever met the person who created the system I would kiss them, only if it was a woman though. I let myself celebrate for a few more seconds before I took a deep breath and asked my next question.

"Do summons have a status I can view? and what about things summons bring with them when they're summoned?"

[All summons possess a status, but Hosts level is insufficient to access the 'Summons Status' function]

Well, that sucked. I was hoping to able to view Gible's moves, but I guessed that I'd just have to wing it and wait until I reached the sufficient level.

[All summons that posses equipment, e.g weapons, armor, tools, etc. Have their own inventories where they can store them. If a summons weapon, armor, tool, etc is destroyed/broken it will be sent to there inventories and after a set amount of time will be fully repaired and will be able to be summoned again]

[Summons will possess unlimited Ammunition/Energy for any weapons, armor, tools. etc they possess, however, sometimes it will take a set amount of time for it to replenish]

[Host will unlock more system functions when he reaches the sufficient levels]

Well, that's good to know, I thought. I didn't have any more questions that I could think of at the moment, but before I used my summoning token I decided to ask the system one last question.

"Is it ok if I call you Eden? because calling you System can get confusing sometimes."

[I thank the host and will gratefully take the name as my own]

I smiled, "No problem Eden."

With my questioning over, I closed my eyes, focused on my summoning token, and used it.

[1 Common Token Used]

[Summoning Entity]

"Flight," I muttered. "Please give me something with flight."

The brief flash of white light came and went and I opened my eyes.

[Summoning Complete: Neena Thurman/Domino (Earth-616) (Marvel)]

I let out a low whistle as I stared at the beautiful woman in front of me, "This ain't bad at all."

The woman in front of me had chalk-white skin and a black circle tattoo around her left eye. Her shoulder-length black hair framed her smooth face and blue eyes which were locked onto me. She wore a skin-tight black and white suit that hugged her curves and which I recognized from one of her comics books. She also had cyan-colored straps over her body which were connected to some pouches on her legs and near her back, under her armpits. She didn't have any weapons on her, so I guessed that they were probably in her inventory.

Her black lips curved into a smirk as she saw me staring, "Like what you see?"

I blushed and moved my gaze back to her face, "Ermm... my bad," I said.

"Oh don't worry. You are my summoner and master after all. Just let me know if you ever wanna spend some time alone," she whispered in a sultry voice, leaning closer to me.

My head was flooded with all manner of perverted thoughts, but I shook them away. I needed to stay focused, I could think about that later. I thought back to all I knew about Domino and realized that she was actually pretty useful. If I remembered correctly then she had probability manipulation which essentially caused her to have good luck while making her enemies have bad luck, Enhanced Agility & Reflexes, and she was very good with weapons. I sighed, I really wished that I had the 'Summon Status' function so I could check all her powers and abilities and see more information about her. I really hope I unlock that soon, I thought to myself.

"Who's the new girl?" said a tired voice and me and Domino or should I call her Neena, I thought, I'll have to ask her later. We both turned to see Leone sitting on her bed, stretching her arms, and yawning. "This is Domino, Leone. Why don't you two introduce yourselves to each other while I head downstairs," I said, looking from Leone to Domino. Domino shrugged and walked over to sit beside Leone, while I headed towards the door. I wanted to spend more time talking to Domino but I had a quest to do.

I arrived downstairs at the main room a few minutes later. there were a few more than there were yesterday and I received quite a lot of stares as I walked to the bar. They must have heard what happened at the gate, I thought to myself.

Ron was at the bar and when he spotted me approaching, his face split into a wide grin, "Aye there is. The man of the hour," he said in a cheerful voice. "Everyone heard what you did to that lad Tanner." He said the last word with disgust and I guessed it was the name of the guard that Lilah killed. I took a seat at the bar and raised a questioning eyebrow at him, "Oh, and what do they think?"

He filled a mug with something and pushed in front of me, "Most folks are scared of you, but I can tell you ain't a bad person," he said, apparently not caring if others heard him. "Kathie told my wife what you did for her. How you saved her girl." I nodded and took a sip of my drink, it was alcohol this time and I made sure to only take little sips, I'd get drunk after I completed my quest.

"Just between me and you Ron," I whispered and motioned for him to lean closer. "If I said that I could get rid of the guards and take care of Rick and Rory, would you help me?" His eyes grew wide and his head quickly snapped from side to side, searching to see if anyone was watching us. I also took a quick look around but didn't spot any eyes on me and Ron.

"So would you?" I asked once his focus was back on me.

He rubbed his beard and narrowed his eyes, "Let's say you could. Why would you?"

I smiled, "My friends from yesterday Lory and his little girl Lemma wanna stay in this village, so I wanna make sure it's safe for them." A thoughtful look appeared on his face and a moment later he sent a small grin my way, "Aye, I think I could help you, But there's only one of you?"

I decided to lie instead of telling him about the system, he probably wouldn't believe it anyway. "I'm mage who focuses on summoning magic, you may have heard of the Darkwraith that I used yesterday."

His eyes widened into saucers and he nodded at me, "If your mage then I can definitely help you. What do you need me to do?"

All I needed to do was kill Rick and Rory, but I also wanted to get rid of the guards and make sure that another asshole didn't take over when I left. I sent a conspiratorial grin at Ron, "Can you get everybody in the village outside of Rory's house in an hour? Just do that and notify me when it's done. I'll do the rest after that."

He looked like he wanted to ask some questions, but he held them back and nodded at me, "I'm well known in this town and I've got some pull with its people. I'll just make up some rumor to get the people riled up and then lead them to the Chief's house, that should work."

"Do whatever you need to do. Just make sure you let me known the moment everything's ready, ok?

He brushed a hand through his greying hair, nodded, and shot me a serious look, "I'm trusting you here friend, don't let me down."

"Don't worry," I replied in a serious voice and stood from my stool. "I'm gonna go inform Lory, you get everything done."

I turned and started walking to Lory's room. I Ignored all the stares and whispers sent my way and arrived in front of his door a couple of moments later. I knocked and a moment later the door swung open to reveal Lory staring at me with a tired look on his face.

"Nathan?"

I nodded and sent him a wide smile, "I, my friend, have got a plan."
