Chapter 7

The two of them sat in silence for a few minutes before Leo's stomach grumbled telling him that he was hungry. Elaine giggled at this and they both stood up and started to walk in the direction they had come from. They had gotten themselves lost previously so it was going to be a challenge to get out of the mess of alleyways.

Walking through the deserted flats with extravagant architecture was almost like getting lost in a maze. Elaine and Leo took it in turns to lead the way in which they thought they should go.

Just as they were ready to give up, Leo spotted the way out and back to the main roads. There was just one problem, aliens were scattered out on the road waiting patiently for some sort of prey to come along and be devoured. Elaine stepped out and started to walk down the alleyway towards the main road and aliens but, Leo grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled her back. She looked up at him confused so he pointed at the aliens. She suddenly gasped looking scared and hid behind Leo's legs. He reached down and picked her up.

After standing round waiting for the aliens to clear off, Leo realised that they wouldn't without a distraction. Carefully, he put Elaine down and started searching around the cracks and gaps in the building and roads. He reached into one of the gaps and grimaced but pulled his hand out with a rat none the less. Elaine screamed slightly before Leo told her to be quiet. As stealthily as possible, he threw the rat as far as he could and, just as he had wanted, the rat started to run and the aliens started to follow. Quickly, he grabbed Elaine and ran down into the main roads.

He didn't stop running until he physically couldn't run anymore. When he did stop, he placed Elaine down and put his hands on his knees and bent over trying to catch his breath. Breathing normally, he looked up at Elaine who was watching him. He held out his hand for her to take, which she did and walked down to the bakery at few doors down.

The bakery was painted a maroon colour with a light grey floor. There was a glass counter full of moulding, baked goods. Leo and Elaine walked around the counter into the back of the shop, there they found a freezer with a few preserved items. They each took a handful and pushed them into Leo's backpack before going back for a few more to eat now.

For a moment, they both sat down on the floor trying to catch back the energy they had just lost. While sitting down, Leo looked around the room and noticed a small grey and navy radio in the corner upon a shelf. He slowly got up and walked over to it, he turned the dials on it tuning into many stations until he found one that sounded interesting : 'Thousands of people flee from Europe and Asia all the way to North and South America' it began. He turned up the volume and sat on the island in the middle of the kitchen swinging his legs back and forth. 'Thousands of people have been fleeing their homes all because of some strange creature. The creature is said to have been black and snake like. Police Officer states that when he repeatedly shot at the creature, it received no critical damage causing the public to panic and run far, far away fleeing cities, countries and continents. Considering the current location of these Aliens, they are expected to be in Africa next and then who knows? Will they spread worldwide? Will humanity be wiped out? Scientists are trying to collect as much information about these creatures as possible to hopefully stop them or find out where they've come from. We'll be back with information such as how to protect yourself from these supernatural beings and more after the sports- ' Leo turned off the radio and stuffed it inside his backpack for later use. He signalled for Elaine to follow him and they exited the small run down shop.

They walked in silence through the streets, there were no aliens in sight. The sky was an orangey-pink colour and the sun was low in the sky. They kept walking until they came to a very tall block of flats with mirrored windows. They pushed open the unlocked door and walked inside. It was very clear everyone had left in a hurry : the pen pot on the desk was pushed over on the floor, keys were littered over the carpet and there were pet cages still in rooms. Leo and Elaine ran around the building making sure all the windows were closed before choosing one of the flats to settle into for the night.

They ended up choosing number 10C. Inside flat 10C, there was a door to the right which contained a bathroom and right in front of them was a hallway. Through the hallway, there were three doors, one of which contained a bedroom with a double bed, a desk and a wardrobe.

The next room was the living room, it had an oat coloured sofa with beige cushions and shelves behind it, there was a large TV in on the wall in front of the sofa and the floor was covered in a cream coloured carpet - in all, the room looked very plain except from the pictures placed upon the shelf, they were more than likely of the previous resident's family. There was a man and a woman and in front of them were two younger girls, probably their children, they seemed to be enjoying a nice picnic in the park.

Stepping out of the room, Leo Winter noticed that Elaine was no longer with him, he quickly rushed into the next room he hadn't been in and found her sitting on the floor stroking a small grey kitten. The room was another bedroom with two single beds pushed up against either wall and in the middle of the two beds were two night stands with one lamp on each.

Leo exited the room and walked right to the end of the hallway. There was a dining table right in the middle and a small kitchen in the corner.

In the bedroom, Elaine has fallen asleep on the floor with the cat so Leo left her there and walked towards the other bedroom to participate in a much needed rest bet not before locking the door to the flat and both the bedrooms.
