1 Magical Earth

Jack's life, as he would describe, has been 12 years of boredom. Besides playing videogames he didn't have any other thing to do. His only wish was to be special, to have something different, but no matter how much he wished, nothing ever changed. Not until his 13th birthday.

Everything changed in that morning. He didn't know it yet but he was no longer a simple boy. Jack reached his hands out of his bed and touched his glasses. A large and powerful magic surged through his body. His glasses were lifted into the air and flew at his hand. It was not a spell but it was so powerful that it could make a person's skin crawl. His glasses were shattered and it took him a great deal of effort before he was able to sit up again.

His father came and looked up at him. He was still in his bed and could not move.

"Jack, is everything all right?"

"I don't know dad," Jack said still looking at his shattered glasses, "something weird just happened to me."

His father looked down at him and noticed something. He looked at him and smiled.

"Jack, don't worry about it. I'm sure you are all right. It is just that something has happened to you. I'll talk to you after I discuss somethings with your mother," he said passing his hand over Jack's hair, "put your clothes and get down for breakfast. You'll have a big day," he said winking at Jack.

Jack was taken aback by this. He did not know how to react. He didn't know if he should be happy that his father was going to talk to him or just feel more puzzled by the waiting.

Jack got up and got dressed and went out to the kitchen. His father and mother were already waiting for him sitting by the table.

"I'm going to explain," his father said. "I'll tell you what you were meant to be."

"What do you mean meant to be?" Jack asked.

"It is a very strange thing I'm going to explain to you," his father said as he passed a hand over Jack's head. "I'm going to explain to you that you were never meant to live this way, that life is not meant to be spent in an endless cycle of boredom. There is something better than that, something that is... magical."

"Oh, god," Jack said. He looked up at his father, his face a mix of surprise, fear, and confusion. His father looked back down at him.

"What are you talking about?" Jack asked. "What is magic?"

"Magic is something that is born from a magical place," his father said. "It is a manifestation of the power that is inherent in all life. It is a place where something is born, and it is a place where something is born again."

"I don't understand."

"Yes, you do," his father said. "You were meant to be born in a magical place. That is what you were meant to do, and you were meant to live there. But you never were..."

"Jack my love," his mother said, "you, your father and I were not born in this world, we came from a world called Earth. We came from a place where dreams could be realized, where everything was possible. And so, from your very birth, you have been blessed with a gift."

Jack felt puzzled but his mother just smiled.

"It is something you have been given, Jack, a gift from God. He has given you a gift from a place you never knew existed, a gift that is only possible for those who have lived there, and who have lived there for a very long time," Jack's father added

"But you were cursed when you were just a baby and for 13 long years, we had to run away from Earth and wait," Jack's mother said. "We waited to see if you were born with the power to harness magic or not. And, my son, you were."

"You are the only person on this planet who can fully harness the power of magic, Jack," his father said. "And you are the only one who can do it without the help of anyone else. You see, your curse could make you the most powerful wizard that ever existed or it could make you incapable of conjuring the simplest magic."

"I'm a wizard?" he asked astonished.

"Yes, Jack. You are the only one on this planet who can do magic without a wand or spells," his father said.

"And I have the power to do anything I want? I can even conjure up a dragon?"

"Well, you won't be able to do any of that. The curse that you have on you will allow you to do whatever you want, but it will make you permanently dependent on the magic of others," his father said. "You will never be able to control your magic, and no one can stop you."
