1 Aiden

If you asked me five years ago where I'd thought I'd be today, I wouldn't think here. In fact, I'd probably say dead. So how is it that I ended up in this precarious situation, roaming like a ghost in purgatory on this earth?

"Bye Martha, I'll see you tomorrow", he says while throwing his jacket on.

"Don't forget you're opening tomorrow Aiden! 8 am sharp!" Martha cups her hands at her mouth and yells at him as he exits the door to head home.

Everyday is the same routine. I work two part time jobs six days of the week. My shifts move around according to the convenience of my coworkers, but it's not like I have plans anyways. I don't go to school and I don't have any hobbies or interests. Sometimes, I'll even find myself blankly staring at the wall all day, because that's just how boring my days are. God was it boring.

Now I know what you're thinking. That I'm just some edgy, ungrateful, pathetic loser with nothing to show for. Ya, you're right. I'm not going to argue with that. But even so, I don't have the courage to kill myself, nor do I have the motivation to try for anything in particular. If anything, it'd be best if I could just disappear from this world. If everyone who ever knew me could just erase me from their memories, and if I could just fade away quietly, so that no trace of me would've ever existed. That would be perfect.

As Aiden walked towards his apartment, he unlocked his door and took off his baseball hat. Hanging his jacket on the rack he undid his shoelaces and immediately dived onto his bed. He quickly grabbed his laptop and swung it open and onto Netflex, his homescreen. Browsing through the catalog, he scrolled through many genres. Action. Adventure. Thriller. Drama. Romance. He paused for a moment, staring at the thumbnail of two people smiling lovingly at each other. His eyes seemed to flicker with melancholy, and a sense of longing, before he continued scrolling again. Nothing seemed interesting to him. As he shut his laptop down and put it to the side, he positioned himself to lay and face the ceiling, his arms covering his eyes. A single sigh escapes his mouth and he peeks out from under his arms to stare blankly at the wall again.

What am I even doing.
