Restrictions

Currently, I'm floating around in the house I 'woke up' in. It's a nice decent house, at least compared to the cramped apartment I had lived in before.

It seems like I can't leave the house. I managed to float around from the first floor up to the rooftop and around the house but I couldn't leave the property.

Is this my restriction? Am I supposed to haunt this house? Don't ghosts usually haunt the houses that they have an attachment on? Why am I haunting this house that I have never even seen before in my life then?

This is ridiculous. If I'm gonna have to haunt something at least make it reasonable. My parents house, my dream house or at least let me haunt that house my coworker lives in. Then I could make my afterlife useful by making that bitch's life miserable.

Well, even if I rant all I want, it's not gonna change my current situation.

It's dawn now. I could see the first ray of sunshine coming in through the curtain. I wonder if I'll get hurt if I try to head out when light's out?

After pondering about it for a few seconds, I decided to try it out. I mean, what's the harm? I'm already dead.

Even dead, people can't get rid of the tendency to court death.

And so, I floated over to the window and reached my hands out. It's warm. But it doesn't hurt so I guess it's safe?

Peeking out through the window, I decided to go out and enjoy the sun. It's a refreshing morning, so it's a pity if I don't enjoy it to it's fullest.

I'd like to use the door to go out but unfortunately, I couldn't exactly open it.

My existence is rather odd. I could touch things and lift it but only of certain weights. Once exceeded, it'll go through me and fall on the floor.

Thus, I can 'touch' the door but couldn't open it. I could just pass through it as I'm a ghost but the sensation it left me from doing that is very uncomfortable.

As I was pondering on the matter of whether to go through the door or look for another way out, I heard a sudden clatter. It was from the kitchen.

Floating over, I found out that it was a lady in her 30s. She had her long brown hair tied up in a bun as her green eyes darted around, looking for something. She was humming happily as she prepared to make breakfast. I have yet to figure out her name but she was one of the people living in this house.

In total, there are four people living in this house. A couple with two young children. The room I 'woke up' in last night happened to belong to the youngest child.

Thinking up to this point, I was reminded of that child. I had a sudden feeling that I had to go to her. It was an odd feeling, like an obligation to which I couldn't oppose.

Unknowingly, when I noticed, I was already standing in front of her door, taking a step to go through it.

The little girl was already awake. She was sitting in her bed, rubbing her eyes in an adorable manner. She was about six years old with green eyes like her mother. Her hair was blonde, like her father. She looked like an angel.

Although I must say, an angel looking child could also be a devil's spawn. Who knows what this creature's like in the inside even if she's still six.

As I looked on warily at the child, she suddenly blinked and turned towards me. Not just turned, she looked at me.

Hah? No, she definitely looked at me. The hell? I thought nobody could see me? I mean, nobody on the street cared when I was floating around the house. Even the two adults in the house couldn't see me.

Is this what they mean about a person's spiritual sense being high enough to perceive the spiritual?

Either way, this girl won't scream, right? A stranger is in her room after all. A floating stranger. If it's me, I would definitely scream.

Although I thought all that, the little girl did nothing of the sort. As soon as she laid her eyes on me, she flashed a brimming smile happily.

The hell?

She rolled over out of her bed, ran over in front of me and greeted me cheerfully, "Good morning! Serafi wasn't scared last night because she had you! Thankyu!"

Me? She knows me? But last night she was asleep when I 'woke up'. But then how...?

"Uh... Last night, did something happened?" I asked, deciding to probe her.

The little girl, Serafi, tilted her little head to the side as she looked at me with a silly grin, "You don't remember? Hehehe... You're so silly. Did you sleep in a weird position? Milly said that you'll have trouble remembering things in the morning if you did that!"

"Milly?" I asked as I ponder who would be so irresponsible as to feed this young girl such crap.

"A friend in kindergarten! She said many things! She's very nice! Serafi really really likes her! Serafi wants to tell her that she also have a Guardian Angel!", Serafi proclaimed loudly with a proud face.

"Guardian Angel? What do you mean?"

Towards my question, Serafi looked at me again as if I was still half asleep, "Silly. That's what you told Serafi last night. That you'd protect Serafi and stay by her side as Serafi's Guardian Angel! The thunder last night was scary! So Serafi was really happy when you came!"

'Guardian Angel', As I pondered on that word, I was oddly feeling familiar with it. Like I had heard it rather recently. However, I have no such recollection. I don't even remember talking to Serafi last night. Much less telling her I'm a Guardian Angel. But she doesn't seem to be lying either.

As I was lost in my thoughts, Serafi suddenly called out to me, "Miss Guardian Angel, will you tell Serafi your name, now? You said you'd tell Serafi in the morning."

My... name...?

"Right, I just noticed... What's my name...?"

As odd as it my sounds, I don't remember my name. I mean, I still remember everything else about me, my past life and anything else. But, I can't seem to remember my name...? Why is that...?

"You don't remember your name? Even though you promised to tell Serafi last night!" Serafi exclaimed as she pouted, "Then, until you remember it, Serafi will give you a new one! Ange! Since you're Serafi's Guardian Angel!"

"Ange...?" I repeated the name she gave me, once again feeling rather familiar with the word.

"Is it no good?" She asked, looking a bit sad.

"Ah, no it's fine. I like it," I replied, it wasn't a bad name and to be honest, I don't really care.

At my word, Serafi's face brighten up significantly, "Then, Ange, let's play today! Serafi have to go to school but Ange will always be with Serafi, right? Then we can all play together with everyone!"

At her words, I was suddenly reminded that I couldn't leave the property. So I wouldn't be able to follow her past the fence. I was just about to tell her when there was a knock on the door.

"Serafi~ You awake? Mom's saying to come down for breakfast," A young, amateurish voice rings out as the door was pulled open.

It was a boy around ten years old. The other child that lives in this house. He looked like his father, brown eyes with blonde hair, though the shade was a bit darker compared to Serafi's.

He walked closer to Serafi and hurriedly pushed her out of the door, saying lazily, "If you don't hurry up, all the food's gonna be gone. Dad won't give you any mercy for being late."

Hearing his 'kind' reminder, Serafi immediately tensed up and dashed towards the dining table, yelling, "Not Serafi's breakfast!"

The boy laughed looking at her reaction from behind, softly whispering, "Ahh... Using food against her always works. Dad only did that once and she's already so traumatized."

This kid... The expression on his face is horrible. He's the type that enjoys bullying his sister, eh? It doesn't seems like this one can see me though. So I guess only Serafi can.

As various thought races through my mind regarding the things Serafi had told me, I had once again found myself by the kitchen. Everyone in the house had apparently already gathered around the dining table and was currently eating breakfast.

Serafi was happily chattering away as her mother listened to her with a smile, occasionally urging her to finish her breakfast. The boy from earlier was quietly eating properly. And lastly, the father, was reading a newspaper as he sipped on a cup of coffee.

It was a peaceful sight until Serafi suddenly brought out a topic loudly, "Everyone! You know! Serafi has a Guardian Angel!"

'She really just went and said it, huh,' I thought to myself.

She's still a child so I don't think they'd take her seriously. Turning my head, I took a glance at the others' reactions.

"Is that so? What is she like?" The mother asked with a smile.

Ahh, it's a smile that screams 'My daughter's imagination is so cute!'

The father just eased up his expression and gave her a soft smile. While the boy just looked at her with a lazy expression and said, "Ehhh~", and went back to eating.

As expected, nobody took her seriously.

Serafi didn't seem to care as she continued, "My Guardian Angel's name is Ange! She's really really nice! Serafi likes her! She protects Serafi from all the baddies!"

"My, how wonderful! But even if Serafi has Ange to protect her, Serafi can't be reckless and cause unnecessary trouble to Ange, alright? Serafi must appreciate her guardian angel and be a good girl, or else Ange won't want to be with Serafi anymore," The mother smoothly entertained Serafi.

"Okay! Serafi will make sure to be a good girl!"

Looking in from the side, I couldn't help but think that this mother is good. She just entertained her daughter's imagination and also made use of it.
