1 The Call-In

"Riuji Nakama, huh"

A tall man wearing a suit and tie examined an application folder that contained a profile description of her. The photo shown was from her graduation, still with the gown and cap on. He continued to read aloud the contents of the work experience in his office, the sound disintegrating into thin air the few 100 feet before the entry door.

"Looking for a preferred long-term business relation. Work experience: None."

He reached across his dark oak desk to grab the landline phone, dialing the front desk.

"Hello, Mr. Johan, what can I do for you today, sir?"

A petite female voice on the other end of the line spoke--

"I'd like you to call in an interview for Miss--"

He paused while looking at the documents.

"Miss Riuji Nakama for tomorrow morning."

"Yes, right awa--"

The phone clanked as the conversation ended.

Ken leaned back in his chair, looking up at the ceiling too far above to reach, and looked around at his workspace-- it resembled almost like a large apartment. The glass windows behind him bathed him in the warm evening light, while the air conditioning enveloped him in a cold blanket.

The next morning, a tall female wearing a black trench coat that looked to be from the thrift store sat by the still locked doors of the building. A petite female voice spoke from the side, questioning why she was sitting there.

"Excuse me, ma'am? Can I do something for you?"

The woman sitting on the ground looked up at the neatly dressed individual.

"Why yes, I'm here for an interview today."
