6 Chapter 5: The reality of this world

A door slowly opens and a pair of red eyes carefully look around.

Then, a pair of white cat-like ears twist and turn a few times.

What should I do?

After thinking that we already got quite close, we started again back to zero.

After waking up and instinctively walking wobbly out of my room, I somehow bumped into Yuka in the kitchen trying to cook something.

He was holding a knife and a vegetable that he prepared to chop but immediately stopped after seeing me.

He looked at me and nodded.

I also nodded back and gingerly walked beside him.

My hands are fidgeting while creasing my tail.

I silently stare down at the sink to give my hazed mind some time to wake up.

Just why did I make the kitchen sink face the living room?

It became the standard for modern homes so the mothers could look out for their children and cook at the same time but this one did a backlash!

I still don't know how to act around Yuka after he saw me fully naked last night.

However, I end up seeing him right after waking up.

Retreating here would only worsen it and he might feel that I'm quite affected so I'm just going to do my morning routine and think that there's no one else here.

I got so confused and rashly wipe the water off my face so it would not enter my eyes when I open them.

But then I felt a fabric on my face damping the water off.

It softly moved from my left cheek, to the right, and then to my forehead, my eyes, down to my mouth and my chin.

It was done so carefully as if it was done to a precious baby.

I should be thankful for the person who's doing this kind thing to me but there's no one else in this house other than Yuka.

I gingerly open my eyes and witness a dazzling beautiful face reflecting the early sunlight from the window behind.

It created a hazy scene and I saw the world in slow motion.

This. Should. Only. Happen. In. Movies...

"..."

Yuka looked at me with his usual cold eyes.

Is he going to scold me?

"Are you okay?..."

Contrary to that, he asked if I'm okay.

I'm still in daze on his chest, looking up at his face with my hands on my chest when I realize that everything seems wrong.

Why am I acting like a princess?!

"Ah! A- I'm fine!"

I hastily broke free from yuka and accidentally slapped his hand.

The cloth that he's holding to wipe my face just now fell on the floor.

"?!...I'm sorry!"

I hurriedly bend my body to pick up the cloth when his warm hand touched on top of mine after I was able to hold the cloth.

My heart that was beating very fast just skipped a beat.

This situation!...

I slapped his hands once again when I removed my hands it underneath his.

"Ahahah... I'm sorry about that. Here's the towel. Have a great day then!"

I hurriedly made my exit and bumped on the kitchen sink but I did not mind it since I have "pain nullity"

Yuka that was left alone looked at my direction with the cloth in his hands.

"Breakfast..."

He muttered something but I never heard it since I was already out of the kitchen.

I was hiding in my room after that happened but a good smell has been drifting around the house and entered my nose.

"I'm hungry.... I want to eat it. I bet it would taste good..."

It's a surprise that Yuka can even cook.

I'm so awkward and don't know how to act around Yuka.

I've never felt anything like this towards anyone before.

It was so fun to tell him stories from earth since I'm slowly discovering the fun and curious side of Yuka but now I can't even get near him without acting weird.

How should I deal with this? Can anyone help me?

I heard a soft knock vibrating two times behind me.

The smells been itching my nose all this time.

I slowly open the door and gingerly poke my head out.

"Oh, Y-yuka. You're here? What's t-this you brought me some food? T-thanks!... Ahaha... I wonder where you got the ingredients..."

I stutter and awkwardly looks at Yuka that's holding a pot.

I look at it and saw a soup that has a lot of meat and vegetables.

I don't know what it's called but it sure does smells good.

It should also taste very good!

"..."

Yuka just stares at me.

What? You want to say something? Are you trying to use telepathy on me? Say something okay!

"Um..."

I don't know what to do and awkwardly reach my hands on the pot.

"Thanks..."

I said in a confused face.

Yuka that saw that tilted his head in a wonder.

I touched the pot and felt something weird.

Oh, it must be hot considering that the soup is steaming and even slightly boiling.

I never felt any pain because of the "pain nullity though.

Yuka immediately moved the pot from my hands and looks at me in a troubled expression.

"I-I'm okay... It doesn't hurt"

I showed my palms to him and it's already healing.

Yuka just looks at it worriedly.

"Umm... Should I take... It?"

I asked Yuka while pointing at the pot.

What is he even trying to do?

For now, I decided to move along together with him.

He slowly moved his way to make sure not to spill the soup inside the pot.

Arriving at the dining room, Yuka set it on top of the table.

I help put a cloth underneath it before it would damage the wood.

Now that I notice it, it seems like there are a lot of new things here compared to what I remember yesterday.

Did Yuka brought these here?

I watch Yuka as he took a pair of plates and spoons behind the kitchen.

Him acting like this looks strange.

It's so contrary to my image for him.

Yuka made his way in the opposite side of the table and handed a plate at me.

I just received it silently.

Maybe I should help myself get some soup then. Ahh it smells so good.

While pondering, Yuka grabbed the pot's handle before I was able to and poured a soup at my plate.

I know he's showing a kind gesture but I feel more nervous for some reason.

I must be shy.

But it's not the first time someone did this for me. My parents and friends. There were some occasion that I remember they did this for me.

But why am I feeling weird when it's coming from him?

We're alone inside a house.

In my world, this looks like a couple living in together.

My heart started beating faster after arriving to that thought.

I started eating while in daze, lost in my own world.

My body crouched quite low on the table while scooping a spoonful of soup and my eyes are unconsciously moving about trying to avoid yuka.

It looks like everything is nothing for him.

It's not shown on his face but he must have laughed in his mind after seeing my junior erected on the first day we met.

He then watch his thumb silently as if not knowing what to do with it.

I look at his thumb and see some bit of murk on it.

I then realize that some soup must have leaked on my mouth unknowingly.

I hurriedly wipe it.

I just watch at the silent Yuka is if very troubled what to do with it.

"Ah..."

I only let out a meek voice because of the shock and confusion from his actions just now.

He looks around.

He must be searching for a cloth to wipe it off, but the cloth from the table earlier is already under the pot.

He then look at his clothes.

"..."

He must be contemplating wether or not to wipe it using his own cloth.

I just watch him doing that and expected for him to wipe it off with something else when Yuka's thumb slowly moves closer to his mouth.

"Ahh-"

And then lick it.

"B-But t-th-that?!"

But that was an indirect kiss just now!

Was what I was about to say when my tongue twisted in the wrong way.

Yuka just look at me silently not knowing what wrong thing he just did.

"There was a mess..."

Why did you have to lick it?!

As expected. I would die from a heart attack while living with him.

I concluded. While trying to contain the loud beating from my chest.

I hurriedly finish the soup, wash the plate on the sink and moved out of the house without even looking or waiting for Yuka to finish.

It was rude but it's his fault!

I understand this is just how he normally do things but I'm sorry I can't take it okay?

I can't take this feelings that suddenly keeps coming out after meeting him.

I ran towards the village chief's house when I stopped after seeing a crowd in the distance.

I slowly wake my way towards the crowds to find out what's going on.

They are surrounding the village chief's house after all. It must have something to do with Yuka's parents.

Everyone is a head taller than me so it's hard to see what's going on in there.

But then I heard the clamor of shocks and wonder from the gathered pantherians.

"It's the chief! He's doing fine?! Didn't he sustain a lot of injuries before?"

"He's healed? How?!"

"It's a miracle!"

"I just saw him yesterday having a hard time moving inside their house!"

"I'm so glad! Our chief is back!"

"This is awesome! Did Morticia learned some advanced healing magic for her husband?"

"I'm so thankful. Now we have our strongest back to normal"

It seems like they are just surprised to see Blair suddenly got healed.

I'm so glad that nothing seems to have gone wrong even after using my healing magic for the first time on him.

I was on tiptoe and having a hard time trying to see how Blair is doing when my vision suddenly shifted from a high perspective.

It feels weird. What happened?

I focused my mind and tried to shift the vision beyond the crowd.

There, I see a figure of Blair doing something.

He looks too fast though and only his blurred figure can be seen, was what I thought until It suddenly slowed down that I can finally see him.

The thick forest are surrounding it. There's nothing but green around.

This is amazing. I don't think I will ever get lost anywhere in this world with this.

It feels so good up here! Although I'm sure that I'm still on the ground but it feels like I'm flying in the in the sky.

I tried looking at the opposite side of the view but it's black and feels like I'm floating away into the space.

It then reminded me about that pure darkness and empty space that I briefly experienced at the summoning.

Was it the space of the beginning?

It seems like there's not even an atom existed there.

It must be just my imagination though.

I then returned the view back to the planet.

There is a noticeably massive land that cannot be seen on earth.

There are so few smaller islands that I can even count them.

This is the continent that I'm in? It's super massive though!

The land covers the surface very wide that it looks like Asia and Africa combined can fit in it.

There are also other land masses but it cannot even compare to this one.

I wonder what it's called.

I suspect that there are four countries splitting the continent from east, west, north, and south based on the almost equally biggest cities in their respective cardinal regions.

I seem to be on the country of the south.

This should be the lookout spot, then in this direction should be the castle or mansion that I saw that time.

My vision finally returned to normal after finally cancelling the clairvoyance.

It is dark since I closed my eyes.

I slowly open my eyes and look up.

Yuka looks at me with a sweat dripping on his forehead.

I look around and saw that the gathered pantherians are all in the distance while looking at me.

What is going on?

"Everyone. It seems like we don't have to be afraid! This one here, Artemis was the one who healed our chief last night! I'm sure he's not doing something dangerous. There's must be some reason behind his actions just now"

Looking at the source of the familiar voice, I saw Morticia together with her husband.

Blair is in a stance as if to protect his wife if something were to happen.

All the pantherian's faces looks at me with horror on their faces.

"It was that boy who healed the chief?!"

"It's Morticia who said it so it should be the truth"

"I'm thankful for him but what did he just do?"

"It felt like I would die when I touch him"

"What was he about to do?"

"He also looked like his consciousness was lost"

"I actually thought that the massive mana went out of control"

"Yuka seems okay while touching him though"

"Are we safe now?"

I heard some people saying things that I don't understand while Yuka is still holding me on his arms as if trying to protecting me.

I can also see some kids who wet themselves and are sobbing.

The happy go lucky Jiji is even crouching on the ground and a woman, that I think the mother covered her ears.

What is going on?

What are they talking about?

"Artemis is back to normal now..."

Yuka said so and eyed everyone to calm down.

I muttered.

"F-for now, I think everyone we a should get back home and do our business. It's still early in the morning everyone. I'm sure you still have a lot to prepare for the day. We will enquire about what Artemis did for the time being"

Morticia cued everyone and they slowly disappeared.

But they left with puzzled or horrified looks on their faces.

I feel so guilty I scared everyone even without knowing it.

I just destroyed everyone's joy from seeing their chief's recovery.

Yuka behind me is still hugging me and I can hear his rugged breathing.

It did not do anything bad to him right.

What you did should be puzzling and scary to everyone but I'm sure there was some reason behind it right? I can clear it out for everyone later so you don't have to be afraid and tell us everything. It might be an audacious thing to say, but you already told us about your origin last night so you already trust us right? You can tell us everything. We will be on your side"

Morticia is so kind and understanding after all.

It could even puzzle just how can she handle everything that just happened.

I-I don't wish to take advantage of you but giving us the map of what you have seen could give us the tactical knowledge to avoid ourselves from the humans. C-can you give us that? Of course only if you want to..."

"Y-yes... I don't see any problems from it... But I just don't understand how can humans be that hated and dangerous... I am also, altho from a different world, a human too though..."

I gingerly asked the curious thought that I always had after arriving in this village.

I even plan to go to a human settlement some time too.

"About that... As expected you don't know the history since you came from another world. Let me tell you about this first then. There is this story that was passed down from every generation in the village..."

I listen as Morticia started telling a story about the beginning of mankind's dominance.

In short, human race won against the other races and dominated the continent.

It seems like there was a fight with the gods that supports the humans and the Demon Lord who supports the other races.

The Demon Lord seems to have been slayed along with the demon continent.

The mysterious demon race was almost wiped out and is hiding somewhere in the world.

The Elven race fell on demise after being the head of going against the human race.

The beastman race, pantherians included also became something like a labor slave for humans.

There seems to still be a lot of other villages out there but human race still keeps hunting them.

The Dwarves actually merged and became known as a "demi-human" after proving to be very beneficiary to humans.

A race called fairy can't even be called a race now. They were only seen as human power, called "fairy magic"

It's a good thing I met the pantherians first before going to a human settlement.

If not, I would have also been poisoned with their ideals and try trampling down on the other races.

It would be the unknowingly evil path with no retrieval.

I'm sure humans have their own reasons to want to be the top among all races but why not live along with them?

The dwarves and fairy race is an evident fact that they can actually coexist in this world.

But they even tried to conquer the pantherian village for who knows what reason.

Blair got those injuries from that.

Human race seem to only see the other races as a slave potential and things that should be trampled on.

Now I understand just why pantheriens loath this humans this much.

"Umm... S-so, should I also hide the fact that I'm also human from the others?"

I asked Morticia after hearing her story and concluding things on my own.

"I suggest you do just that for now. But I'm sure everyone would accept you after hearing that you don't have any connections from " those" humans. But revealing your real identity would be dangerous. I could even say that you might get in danger after telling us about your origin. There must be something lurking in this village. The sudden invasion of the humans in our previous village can't be explained after all"

"So I should hide that fact to everyone else..."

Morticia nodded.

"That's right, you should keep the fact that you're a human since everyone might suspect how you even turned yourself into a pantherian. If humans also were to know about that, they would definitely try to control you by playing the card of the fact that you're of the same race"

Human race is very dangerous. Back in earth they were also like that.

Although o it sounds weird coming from me, but the human race is just sly and greedy.

There are other amazing races in this world that almost almost went in extinction.

They badly need help.

Back on my world humans also kept hunting animals that a lot of them already went extinct.

Human just keep advancing without even thinking about the consequences it will bring to the world.

Global warming, climate change, extinction, overpopulation and any other problems they caused and it was already too late when they noticed it.

It is also happening in this world too.

Should I do something now that I have the power?

I'm just an outsider. What right do I have to reprehend other's decisions and actions?

I knotted my eyebrows while contemplating about that.

Morticia must have noticed my troubled face and started saying something to calm me down.

"Artemis should be like a gift that was given to us from the heavens. You being here is a very big help. You already healed Blair's injuries and even swore to give us some information about the human settlements, but other than that should be our problem. You came from a world where you can't even kill an animal so you don't have to put any pressure on yourself. I'm sorry to say this but you're just an outsider that unfortunately got stuck in this cruel world. There isn't even a responsibility that you need to feel since you don't have any connections with the human race in this world. Instead, you should let us protect you. Again. I really admire this woman.

She sharply seen through me and worded out those best words to help me relax my troubled heart.

But even with that, there's a saying, "a great power comes with great responsibilities" from my favorite movie that keeps appearing in my mind.

It would really bug me to know that other races are in a harsh condition from the hands of the human race while I'm just playing around and doing what I want.

I already tried nothing back in my old world but now that I'm here and even got this power, I'm I going to do the same? Doing nothing and just letting things go around?

Responsibility or not, it would bug my conscience now that I'm aware of things.
