7 The White Dragon Academy Part I

I found myself walking through the halls of the academy. Thinking back to the second round of the fight from earlier, I really did get my ass handed to me. I need to work on that if I hope to survive in this world.

This academy really was massive. Made up of eight floors, and two sublevels, it was the largest building I had ever been in. The first sublevel is where the professors have their research labs. The lower sublevel is off limits. Rumors say that the device that powers the academy is down there.

The main floor is general purpose. There are various assembly halls, arenas, and offices for non professor staff. Floor two is entirely dedicated to the academy hospital. Light magic is primarily used for healing. Thus, they have a hospital that is not just restricted to students. Experimental treatments and complex operations regularly take place here. Floors three through six house the students of each year, their classrooms, and other facilities. They are separated by year. The top two floors are for specialized classes and labs. These facilities are open to third and fourth year students for them to do academic research.

Since I was a first year student, I was on my way to the third floor. Inside the pockets of my uniform were small storage formations. They allowed for the wearer to store small items about the size of the pocket without them hindering movement. Things such as a wallet, badge, small knife, or wand would fit in there.

Once I imprinted on the pockets, I found a few small objects. The first two were small books. One was a blank notebook and the other was the student handbook. The second item was an ornate, white pen. Supposedly it would never run out of ink but that has yet to be seen. Lastly was a small booklet. Inside was a keycard and a set of instructions.

After reading through them quickly, I had realized that this was how rooms would be assigned. I had to put my mana into the card. Once that was done, I needed to place the card into the door. It would then dissolve and my imprint would be applied to my room. Aside from professors, I would be the only one that could unlock the door.

This was where I was currently headed. The halls were filled with first year students introducing themselves to their neighbors or finding their friends. Looking at this, I decided on something. Friends would be the only way I could get through this academy. However, I would need to go about this carefully. As I have seen thus far, the people here don't seem to be the friendliest towards commoners. This was a Royal Academy after all so I wasn't surprised.

For now, I would keep to myself. I quickly found my dorm and applied my imprint to it. Once I opened the door, what I saw would have made me drop my bags if I was carrying any. It was hands down the most luxurious room I had ever seen.

From a top down view, the shape of the room was a large square. The door slid into the wall so there was no wasted space. Directly to the left of the door was the left wall. On it were two rows of hooks for jackets and other outerwear. Further along the left wall was a large, wooden desk with a chair in front of it. Directly to the right of the door was another door but it was open. Inside was a master bathroom. It had two sinks, a bath, a massive shower, and a toilet. There were also racks with towels that bore the White Dragon insignia. After the bathroom was a small, walk-in closet. It extended for about six feet in depth and then ten feet in width. In the middle was an island with drawers all over it. Right outside the closet was a mirror that was easily eight feet tall.

After the closet was a huge bed. It was at least 2-3 times the bed I slept on at home. It was probably this world's equivalent to a queen or king sized bed. Each side of the bed had a bedside table with a lamp above it coming out of the wall.

The wall opposite the door wasn't really a wall at all. It had a massive window that appeared as if it looked outside. I presumed it must have been enchanted because there are no windows visible from the outside. The view from the window also didn't match the forest that surrounded the academy.

By the time I picked my jaw up off of the floor, it was about 11am. I went and started to settle in. I hung up my coat and hat on the hooks, put the few pairs of clothes I had in the closet along with my mage robes, and then left my bag on the island. Walking out of the closet, I noticed that there was a piece of parchment on the desk.

I walked over and picked it up before reading it to myself. "Welcome to the White Dragon Royal Academy. As a first year student, you have a lot ahead of you. To start your journey, follow the schedule listed below. It outlines the classes you will attend for the next two days. The communication runes for each of the guidance counselors for your class have already been added to your commlet. Reach out to them if you need help with anything…"

At the end of the letter it was signed by the headmaster and the faculty. From reading this, I guess these first two days are an orientation of sorts. All I knew was that I was excited to find out what the day would hold. The first course was at noon and I was supposed to go to Lecture Hall 4.

Settling in took a while so now it was about twenty minutes to noon. I pulled out my handbook and found the map of the school. It was split across eight pages and depicted the layouts of each above ground floor. From a quick look over, I found that the floors for each year had the same layout.

The residential facilities occupied about a third of the floor. They included the dorms and the cafeteria. The other two thirds was split between the lecture halls, classrooms, offices, and labs. To avoid being late, I decided to leave immediately in the case that I get lost.

Once I exited my room, I found that the majority of students were all moving in the same direction. All of the lecture halls were situated in the same area so this made sense. I decided to follow the crowd.

A few minutes later, I found a large hall where students were gradually filing into a series of lecture halls. The one next to me currently was lecture hall 1. I presumed that number 4 was a bit further down. After another few minutes of walking, I found hall 4. I walked in and looked around.

Inside was a standard lecture hall. In the front of the room was a blank, white, wall. In front of it was a desk with an office chair. Facing the front of the room were ascending rows of desks. As the room went back, the floor below the desks went higher and higher.

I walked and passed four of the ten rows. I then entered this row and sat down a few seats in. All that was left was to wait. There were about 15 minutes until the class would start. I watched as students filed in and the seats gradually filled. The room was almost at capacity with around 90 students when a chime went off.

Seconds passed. Those seconds turned into minutes and people started becoming restless. I decided to put my head down on my desk and rest my eyes.

Not even five seconds after I closed my eyes, something hit my back. I opened my eyes and looked down. There was snow on the floor. I looked around behind me as everyone in the vicinity was laughing.

I coughed and cleared my throat. "Who threw that?"

Some random kid stood up from his seat and tossed a snowball into the air. "You mean this?" He then threw the snowball at me. It hit me square in the chest and exploded.

I looked around. Everyone was laughing at this point barring a few people. "Can you not do that?"

The boy laughed and summoned another snowball. "Nah, I think I'll keep doing it."

He threw the snowball. It was coming straight towards my face so I closed my eyes and raised my hands to shield my face. When I thought the snowball was about to hit me, I heard the impact but it didn't hit me. I opened my eyes and saw that the snowball had hit the boy.

A feminine voice called out. "Are you done?"

The boy scoffed. "Are you really going to protect that peasant?"

She laughed. "I think I am already doing that. If you aren't able to tell, maybe go to the medical ward and get an eye examination."

The boy's face went red with rage. "How dare you! Do you know who I am?"

She shrugged. "Nope. Enlighten me."

He smirked proudly. "I am Bernard Jameson, first son and heir of Viscount Marcus Jameson."

She smiled before putting some mana into her commlet. "Minus fifty points for Bernard Jameson."

His mouth dropped open and he started to shake. "You can't just do that. I did nothing wrong!"

She chuckled. "I actually CAN do that. In fact, I just did. And your claim is just your opinion. Now sit down before you make this any worse for yourself."

Bernard did not want to give in. "YOU INSOLENT BITCH! THE KING WILL HEAR OF THIS!"

She then pointed to the door. "And so will the Headmaster. Get out of my class. On second thought, I'll send you right to Lichstein." She waved her hand and he disappeared. "Before we start, minus ten points to everyone except…" She gestured towards me.

I stared blankly for a moment but then realized what she wanted. "Callum… of Shellham."

She nodded. "... for him because no one helped him. Lastly, minus five points to you, Callum, for not defending yourself."

I only then got a good look at her. She was skinny but had bust in all the right places. She had brown, wavy hair and brown eyes. Not a single imperfection was visible on her skin. She was gorgeous to say the least.

She placed a few items on the desk at the front of the room before facing the class. "Good afternoon students. I am Miriam Dashar, professor in the magesmithing department. Aside from telling you about my department, I will be going over a few things that will be essential to your first year. Don't bother introducing yourself to me because I only remember the students that I have in class."

Miriam smiled. "Now, I trust you all remember the point system that Headmaster Lichstein mentioned? If you don't, tough luck. These points will be the most important thing to you while at this academy. The headmaster already went over the basics so I'll just tell you a few things. You all start with 500 points. These points can be taken away just as easily as they are given so tread carefully. You have already seen how this can happen."

"You will all have the same first year. Specializations will not be allowed until your second semester. The first semester courses include magical history, introduction to the elements, and mana 101. Don't even think of complaining that you are learning about the basics. Before we can build you up, each of you must have an unshakeable foundation. You might think that you know the basics but you are sorely mistaken."

She smirked. "Now, let's get to my favorite part. We will start with a question. What is magesmithing?"
