10 The Beastly Dragon Part II

King Arthur stood up from his seat. "Now that you all have met your partners, you will all go back to your dorms. We will meet again in two weeks. In this time, get familiar with your partner and gain some synergy. You will be sharing a body for much of the day so this should happen quite quickly. If you need anything, do not hesitate to reach out to your headmaster or one of the professors you have met here. Enjoy!"

He clapped his hands and I suddenly found myself back in my room. Looking around, I quickly realized I was floating in the air. I started flailing but then landed on something soft. Fortunately I was over my bed.

I fell back into the bed. "Ughhhhh, wanna come out Okami?"

The kludde formed out of my stomach and then sat down on the bed. "So what now?"

I laughed and stared at the ceiling. "We sleep. I have classes all day tomorrow."

Okami tilted his head. "What classes?"

I shrugged and sat up. "No idea. I will probably learn more about the academy." I then scooted over and hopped off my bed to get undressed.

Okami shook his head. "Where can I get something to eat around here?"

I waved my hand, pulling an extra sandwich out of my storage ring. I then tossed it to Okami and he caught it. "That's all I got for now. I'll get some proper food for you tomorrow."

Okami nodded and carefully used his teeth to open the wrapping.

I finished getting undressed and was now in my boxers. Turning around, I saw the kludde attempting to open the sandwich. I laughed.

Okami growled. "What is so funny, human?"

I shook my head. "It's kinda funny watching you struggle to open the wrapping. You want some help?"

Okami gently picked up the sandwich with his mouth and tossed it over to me. I quickly opened it up and then handed it back to him. In just a few bites, he finished it and burped.

I hopped onto the bed and sat with my legs crossed. "So, what is a kludde?"

Okami laid down on the bed and thought for a moment. "We are a variant of wolf. I'm not sure how my species came to be. My parents were both kluddes."

I nodded. There was so much I wanted to know. "Do you have any special abilities?"

Okami nodded. "If you couldn't tell already, I can fly."

I sighed. "That's it? You can't use any special magic or anything like that?"

Okami chuckled. At least he did the equivalent of a chuckle for a wolf. "My species is good at the elements of light, fire, and wind. Light and fire are our strongest. What about you?"

I laughed. "I'm a noob when it comes to magic. I'd have to say that the element I'm most sufficient in is water. I can use all of them comfortably though."

Okami sat up and tilted his head, his ears pointing straight up. "Noob?"

I sighed. "A noob is someone who is new to or bad at something. Let's talk more tomorrow, alright? I'm exhausted."

Okami laid back down and nestled his head into the comforter. I placed my head down on the pillow. I blinked and suddenly it was morning. There is an alarm that goes off through the use of air magic. It covers the entire academy and goes off every morning at 7 AM.

I sat up and stretched my arms while yawning. At the end of my bed, Okami was using his paws to cover his eyes. "Do you need to shower?"

Okami growled. "I just want this awful noise to stop. And no, I don't need to shower. I use darkness to clean myself."

I shrugged. "Showers can be quite refreshing. They feel amazing in the morning."

Okami perked up at that. "I guess I'll have to check out this shower you speak of."

I laughed and slid out of bed. I grabbed a change of underwear and walked to the bathroom. Walking into the bathroom, I was immediately assaulted by my reflection in the mirror. I was a mess.

My long blonde hair was all over the place. Peaking through the cover of hair were my bright blue eyes. I definitely did not look like someone from out in the country. What redeemed my disheveled appearance were my sharp features. My jawline could probably cut a carrot. Other than that, I was a scrawny twelve year old.

I opened the shower door and stepped in. I had yet to shower here so I was curious how the shower was. I was about to turn the knob but I heard the pattering of claws on the tile floor. I looked down and saw Okami.

I nearly choked while shaking my head adamantly. "Oh nononono. Out."

Okami sat down and tilted his head. "What's the problem? We share a body most of the day."

I sighed. "Fine. Just don't stare."

Okami cackled like a hyena. "It isn't like there is anything to stare at anyways."

I grunted. "Asshole."

About thirty minutes later, I was headed out of the room in my uniform. The uniform is really cool. It compresses into a bracelet on my left wrist. Supposedly you can place a different accessory into a storage rune that is in the chest pocket. It will change the appearance of the storage mode. I decided to put in a chain link bracelet that my father left for me.

With Okami merged with me, I headed to the cafeteria. 'When we are merged, do we share any senses?'

Okami laughed. 'I believe so. Clothes feel weird.'

I replied. 'I'm curious if we share the food I consume as well.'

Okami replied. 'It would make sense. I feel my energy replenishing. It must be from your mana pool.'

I nodded unconsciously. 'So what shall we eat this morning? I never asked you what foods you like.'

Okami was silent for a moment before replying. 'I like meat and fish.'

I thought hard. 'What about bread? We can have a breakfast sandwich. Wow, it's weird thinking about eating for both of us. Is this what it's like to be pregnant? Without the voice in your head of course.'

Okami laughed. 'Is bread the stuff that held the sandwich I ate last night?'

I nodded. 'Yep. Did you like it?'

Okami barked in my head excitedly. 'It was my favorite part after the sliced meat.'

By this time, I had arrived at the cafeteria. It was surprisingly quiet. I wasn't complaining though. Less stuck up nobles to worry about.

I walked up to the counter. The menu was huge. All sorts of breakfast foods were available for purchase with points. Some of the items were eggs, omelets, wraps, at least 10 different kinds of toast, some salads, and various cold cuts.

I found my mouth watering at all the options. Is this what it's like to be a noble? It took me a while but I settled on a quesadilla with a few different cheeses, eggs, sausage meat, and onion.

Okami was making noises inside my head while I was eating. 'Mmmmmmhmmmmmm.'

I sighed. 'What are you doing?'

Okami barked. 'This thing is delicious. There are so many flavors that I don't know what to do with myself.'

I shook my head as I took another bite. After finishing my breakfast, I headed to the same lecture hall as yesterday.

Upon entering the lecture hall, it was mostly empty. There were about 10 minutes until class was set to start. I quickly went and sat in the same seat as yesterday. Within seconds, someone sat next to me.

Yanni smiled. "Good morning, Callum."

I nodded. "Good morning. How was last night?"

Yanni laughed. "Quiet, fortunately. You?"

I sighed. "Interesting, to say the least. You're a noble, right?"

Yanni nodded. "Yes, I am. My father is a Duke after all. What about it?"

I then replied. "Is breakfast not really a thing?"

Yanni laughed. "Breakfast is an intimate meal in high society. No one wants to be seen at their worst so everyone has a light meal in private. Why do you ask?"

I nodded. "Makes sense. The cafeteria was almost empty. I'm just used to sharing my meals with my family so eating alone is… odd."

Yanni shrugged. "Makes sense. I'll join you for meals from now on."

Suddenly, two people rushed over and took the seats next to Yanni. A feminine voice called out. "Good morning, Yanni."

Yanni sighed. "Good morning Anna. Oh, Jacob, you're here too."

Anna laughed. "Oh come on, at least pretend that you're happy to see me."

Jacob scoffed. "He's clearly not interested, Anna." He then looked at me. "I don't recognize you. Which household are you from?"

I laughed nervously as I recalled seeing this boy at the Beastly Dragon meeting last night. "I have no family name. It's just Callum. Who do I have the pleasure of meeting?"

Jacob laughed. "HA! To think it'd be that easy to fulfill my father's wishes. Anyone who can befriend someone as shy as Yanni must be a good man. I am Prince Jacob Menadia, first born son of King and Queen Menadia."

Anna nodded. "I am Princess Annabelle Menadia, first born daughter of the king and queen. We are twins."

I raised my brow in curiosity. "What are these wishes you are trying to fulfill?"

Jacob laughed. "He wants us to make friends with some commoners. It is important to know the people that we will rule over one day."

I shrugged. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet your royal highnesses."

Jacob shook his head. "Please just call us by our names. We only put up with the formalities when we have to. Here, we are students, just like you."

I smiled. "I like you. Would you two like to join Yanni and I for lunch?"

Anna's eyes lit up as she stared at Yanni with desire. "We would love to. It will give us an opportunity to get to know each other."

I nodded and laughed. "It's still hard to believe that I am in class and talking with the three of you."

Jacob nodded. "Believe me, it wasn't easy for our parents to just send us here."

I laughed. "Is that so? I was under the impression that the academies are about as safe as the royal palace."

Jacob laughed and nodded. "That is indeed true."

The door slammed open as a middle aged man in professor robes bursted into the room. He had jet black hair, sharp features, and brown eyes.

He looked across the room and sighed. "Another year, another batch of freshman. Good morning everyone, I am Wilhelm Kroos of the Mage Hunter Corps. To you, I am Professor Kroos of the Combat Department. I am here to tell you about the extracurricular activities here at the White Dragon."

Kroos sat down in the chair and put his feet up on the desk. "First, there are research groups. You can team up with fellow students of the same year and pursue various topics related to the specializations. The main purpose of this is to help promote camaraderie among our graduating classes. Our country can not develop unless we work together."

"Next is sports. We have two official leagues that you may participate in. The first is mana ball. The game is quite simple. Six students on two different teams that try and bring a ball up the field to score. The other is MMA or Mixed Mana Arts. Two teams of four are dropped into an arena with obstacles. The matches are a best of 5. Each round lasts until five minutes have passed or an entire team is eliminated. After five minutes, the team with the most members remaining wins. This is a combat sport where everyone's magical abilities are limited to the same level. Thus, it is entirely based on fighting technique and skill rather than how much mana you have."

"The military uses MMA for recruiting. There are also international tournaments between the various kingdoms and empires of the continent."

"Lastly, there is an opportunity for you to assist professors in their research. It is entirely up to the professor to take on an assistant so don't get your hopes up. None of us have time for tutoring."

"All of the extracurriculars are ways to gain points outside of the classroom. Research groups that publish their findings will gain points relative to importance. Sports teams will gain points for rankings. Assistant roles will get you points based on how much time you put into the role. Any questions?"
