4 Chapter 4

We all walked out the bakery and the workers closed the shop for tonight.

"Are you going to be here tomorrow?" I asked Cadence. She looked at me with a straight face.

"Why are you asking" she replied.

I let out a huge sigh. "Because I have some questions to ask you."

"So you're a cop now? I did nothing wrong officer."

"Cadence I'm not joking I'm- Ugh Nevermind." I walked over to Sophie and we both started walking away.

"Why are you grilling her, you're not her boyfriend." Sophie said. She continued, "You just met her and you're already getting annoyed..."

"She has no respect! She slapped me and she-" Sophie yanked me back hard. "BEEP!" A car darted by me. It was so close I almost got hit by it.

"Luke be careful!! Watch where you're going!" Sophie was upset with me. I'm pretty sure I almost gave her a heart attack. She's always looking out for me. Even when we were young Sophie never let me be the protective one.

"I'm.... Sorry" I'm already tired of saying sorry to Sophie. I've been using that everytime Sophie scolded me. She's like an overprotective mom...

Me and Sophie went back to her house.

"Alright Sophie I'm gonna go home now. See you tomorrow" I hugged Sophie and left back to my home.

"Dad I'm home- Huh?" When I walked in, there was a note on the wall beside me. It read, "Luke, I'm working extra hours at work again so I won't be home until late, probably around 10 or 11. There's no milk so you're going to have to buy it at the supermarket. I put the money on your bed. Love you!"

"Ugh" I sighed. Ever since my mom left out of no where, my dad had to start working extra hours to have enough money to support the both of us. We don't really spend time together like we used to...

I walked to my room and saw the money on my bed. I grabbed it and I heard a knock at my door. Knowing who it is, I ignored it.

After checking myself in the mirror for a while I opened my door.

"Luke I knew you were back!" Of course it was her. My little sister Lily, she turned 8 two weeks ago...

"..." I walked pass her without saying a single word.

"....Brother...."

"Just stop talking to me." I walked out the house.

The supermarket was right next to our house, I never have to walk far. When I got in the store I walked to the milk section and grabbed 2%, then I overheard a conversation between two guys next to me.

"Man that news was crazy..."

"I know right! All these women are getting murdered and they can't find the killer."

"Whoever this person is, I hope they find him."

"Yeah, same bro."

The guys walked elsewhere.

"What...? A murderer that's going only after women?! That's bizarre. Hopefully the murderer is not around this area-"

Seconds after talking to myself, I heard a woman's cry, but... Why did it sound like it was inside this store?!

I ran out the dairy section and I saw another monster like being, it looked very different from the other one I killed. It seems that everyone could see this one though...

People were screaming and running and the woman that yelled was split in half by the Vertex's grip. Is this it... Is this the murderer that is going around killing ladies?!

The Vertex starting searching around and when it saw me it completely ignored me and walked further into the store.

"This is not good! Where's Cadence...? Does she even know this thing is here?!" I started to panic. Even if it wasn't coming after me, any girl can be killed at this supermarket.

Then Cadence came dashing into the market with her blade. "She came!" What a relief to see her.

The Vertex quickly turned around and spotted Cadence darting towards it. It started to screech and also darted towards Cadence. It's speed was unbelievable, but before the Vertex could grab Cadence she jumped and did and anime style front flip and stabbed its forehead with her katana.

I wasn't just going to stand here and do nothing. I started helping everyone evacuate the store safely.

"There's more where that came from- Agh!" The Vertex violently smacked Cadence off its forehead and she came smashing into the wall.

I saw a baby girl lying on the ground crying and the Vertex saw it and started dashing towards it.

"... No..... Don't touch that baby!!!!!!!!!!" I yelled my lungs out while trying to sprint to the baby in time.

"....Huh.....! Luke catch!!!" Cadence threw her katana my way and I caught it. I started to feel lighter and faster.

"Take this!!!!!" I sliced straight threw the Vertex and executed it. It faded into darkness.

I then ran over to the baby and started carrying it. A man looked sweaty and terrified, but when he saw me with the baby girl he rushed to me and took the baby crying tears of joy saying, "Oh my baby...!" I guess that was the dad.

I finally remembered Cadence was injured so I went to her in concern. "Oh my God Cadence are you okay?! Don't worry I'll call an ambulance right now! Don't move or your pain will get worst-"

Cadence snatched the blade away from me. "You... Don't need to do that... I'm fine." She stood up and felt like nothing happened to her.

"What...??" I was confused.

"Wow Luke, you must be the protective one." She said while stretching.

What she just said created a weird emotion in me. "...Protective..."
