20 Farewell

The imperial palace island was destroyed. Lin Li was floating in the sky when she lost her leg control after a drop in cultivation level.

She just couldn't understand why the tree would take away the violet radiance. She was not surprised the tree has the ability to take away the violet radiance.

Not to mention the tree's heaven-defying powers, just that the tree's projection was released by the violet bead made it clear that the tree has the ability to control violet radiance. The violet radiance was created by the violet bead, so for an entity which was controlling the violet bead, it was very easy to take away the power it granted. Most importantly, the latent potential of youngsters has increased due to the phenomenon. Everyone believed that the present era would be the age of heroes. For both cultivators and mortals, the violet radiance was nothing less than the blessings of Heavens.

Now, the tree was implying the blessing was a curse in disguise?

How could increase in longevity, strength, and talent be a curse?

"How can it be a curse?" Lin Li angrily asked. She was grateful to the tree for the help it gave but now she was only angry after the loss in her cultivation

"This is something I can't explain nor you will understand even if I explained. Just remember one thing..."

"Remember what?"

"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

Lin Li became silent after hearing this. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. She tried to think with a clear mind.

"There is no reason for the tree to lie. So far the tree has only helped me." Lin Li thought in her heart.

Her back is drenched with sweat when she thought about how she lost herself to the greed a moment ago.

"I am sorry for my rude behavior. I should be thanking you..." Lin Li apologized and bowed down.

"Didn't I say it before that you don't need to beg when you can command? You are my future self's mother and you have the right to be rude. I will not have given you this right if you held any malice towards your son," the tree said.

Lin Li was able to understand the pain in the tree's voice. From the tree's words, it sounded as if one of its future-self has a not so ideal mother.

"Before I leave, I guess I should give you an apology for the violet radiance," the tree said. A leaf arrived in front of Lin Li in which the corpse of Blood Witch was placed.

Lin Li was surprised. She has thought all corpses has been destroyed from existence during the battle between the tree and grey sword. Even the island was completely wiped out.

Blood Witch's corpse was fully intact as if she has just died. The bead has absorbed the soul of her before the grey sword arrived. The body devouring process was stopped due to the grey sword.

A blue orb of light came out from her corpse which moved towards Lin Li.

The blue orb went inside Lin Li's head.

" The blue orb has memories about the cultivation method and spells used by the woman. Refine it when you have time. Consider it as an apology."

As soon as the tree said this, Lin Li and Zhen Han were covered by a violet light. They instantly disappeared.

When Lin Li opened her eyes, she found her son in her arms. When she looked around there was no sign of the bead or the tree.

Everywhere there was debris but it was not the first zone where imperial palace was located. She realized she was in the ninth zone of the imperial city. Even though the ninth zone was hundreds of kilometers away from the first zone, it, too, has undergone a massive earthquake due to the fight between the tree and grey sword.

The entire zone was filled with corpses and injured ones. The ninth zone has very few cultivators in it so none of them noticed the arrival of Lin Li and Zhen Han.

Lin Li gave a heavy sigh when she noticed the damage. The empire was destined to face chaotic times now that the imperial capital was destroyed and the Emperor dead.
