11 Chapter – 11 Promotion Ceremony

Day of the Promotion Ceremony, Lilith, Underworld

It has been decided to organize the Promotion Ceremony at the new capital of the Underworld.

The promotion ceremony this time is a grand event in the Underworld and it has been decided by the higher-ups to broadcast it on the Devil Tube so that all the Devils in the Underworld can watch it.

As for the question, 'Why is everyone fussing about this Promotion Ceremony and why is it so grand?'

It's because this time… not just one or two but over a dozen young devils are being promoted to High Class at the same time, of course, there are a few older ones as well who will be promoted in the ceremony, but they are not the main focus. Everyone's attention is upon these young devil children as they hail from pure-blood noble houses, and are very important for the continuity of the Devil race.

Some of the famous names that are participating in the promotion ceremony are Sairaorg Bael and Magdaran Bael from the House of Great King Bael, Novachrono Agares from the House of Arch-Duke Agares, Rias Gremory from the House of Duke Gremory, Diodara Astaroth and Latia Astaroth from the House of Duke Astaroth, Sona Sitri from the House of Prince Sitri, Arheya Glasya-Labolas and Zephyrdor Glasya-Labolas from the House of President Glasya-Labolas along with several other devils from the 72 pillars.

And among these young children, many are in fact, heirs of their Houses. So, of course, all parties are paying attention to the Promotion Ceremony, therefore, it ought to be a grand event that is attended by the Four Devil Kings, the currents Heads of remaining pillars, as well as other famous and important names in the Underworld.

As one of the candidates to be promoted today, Novachrono arrived at the Venue along with Julius, Libra, and a few servants.

As soon as the presence of the Arch Duke Agares was announced, many heads swarmed towards him.

Looking at all the people wanting to greet him or have a conversation with him, Julius spoke to Libra with a troubled expression, "Dear… I am afraid I must greet fellow Council members." He wanted to stay beside his son until the promotion ceremony is completed, but his responsibility as the Arch Duke did not allow that to happen.

"Don't worry father… I am no longer a child. I can take care of myself." spoke Nova with a smile, and added, "Besides, Mother will be with me, so there won't be any problem."

Hearing Nova's response, Libra gently held Julius's hand and spoke with a smile, "Right. I will stay beside our Nova, so you can rest assured."

Julius nodded, and spoke, "All right then, you take Nova to the assigned waiting room, and I will deal with these people here."

With that decision, the couple separated. Julius went towards the fellow Council members with Demiurge and Monspeet following him, while Libra and Novachrono went to the waiting room that was assigned to Nova with Patolli, Ghislaine, Lavinia, and Artoria following the two.

Shortly, the promotion ceremony began.

The candidates were called based on the ranking of their Houses and it all started from the lowest, and it will be a while before Novachrono's name is called.

While waiting for Nova's turn, Libra asked, "Son… you remember the steps we practice at home, right?"

Nova nodded, "Yes. I have them in my memory."

Libra smiled in satisfaction, and as she adjusted his tie, she spoke, "Don't get nervous, okay."

Nova sighed, "I know, I will try my best."

He would be lying if he said that he isn't feeling a little pressured.

The promotion ceremony is a grand event and almost all the bigwigs of the Underworld have gathered at the Hall of Promotion. This would be the first time when Nova would be exposed to such attention, as these many people weren't gathered even on his birthday so there is indeed a possibility to get nervous.

Novachrono is the heir of the House of Arch-Duke Agares, as the future head, he will be involved in the inner circle and outer circle devil politics, and he will be responsible for the communication between the factions of the Four Devils Kings and the Great King. He must shoulder such a heavy responsibility in future; therefore, he cannot afford to be nervous or show any form of weakness to the devils attending this promotion ceremony.

This is his first performance, and if he leaves a bad impression, then those with greed and lust for power and wealth will completely chew him.

Devil politics is cruel, a moment of weakness, and these experienced and greedy men would completely eat him.

Libra could see that her child is feeling pressured. She smiled kindly, and embraced him, "I have faith in you Nova. You are the best, the most talented, and the most unique child. I know that you are capable of accomplishing anything in the world. So, you have nothing to be afraid of."

Nova smiled. "Thank you, Mother. I am feeling better." Libra's warmth greatly helped him.

By the time he recovered, it was his turn.

"Lady Agares… Young Lord Agares… it is time…"

As Novachrono's name was announced, there were drum rolls to signal the opening of the doors.

The guards standing on both sides of the double door pushed it open, and Nova became the centre of all attention. Other than the devils currently present at the Hall of Promotion, there are countless devils watching the Promotion Ceremony through Devil Tube.

Nova could feel everyone's eyes upon him, some are scrutinizing, some are encouraging, some are curious, and some are scoffing.

'I must not make any error.' Novachrono thought to himself, as he felt Lavinia and Artoria's hands on his shoulder. They have confidence in him, and they know that he will do just fine.

'I know I am the best.' With such a thought in his mind, Novachrono took a deep breath and stepped forward with a calm and collected smile as welcome applause rang in the Hall of Promotion.

Giving a brief nod to his acquaintances on the way, Nova arrived before the Four Devil Kings on the ritual altar and genuflected (kneeled before the Four Devil Kings), and bowed his head, as he spoke, "Lord Lucifer of the Pride, Lord Beelzebub of the Gluttony, Lady Leviathan of the Envy, and Lord Asmodeus of the Lust, it is my greatest pleasure to be here, in your presence."

It was Ajuka Beelzebub who spoke, "So, the day has finally come for you."

"It appears so." Answered Nova.

"Well then let's start." Spoke Sirzechs Lucifer as he picked up the sword offered to him by his personal maid cum Queen of his peerage–Lucia, and placed it on Novachrono's right shoulder, "In the name of Lucifer, Lilith, and the almighty Evil. In the witness of my fellow Devil Kings Beelzebub, Leviathan, and Asmodeus, and the Heads of 72 pillars, I, Sirzechs Lucifer, promote you, Novachrono Agares to the rank of High-Class Devil."

Novachrono bowed his head gratefully, and spoke, "I am grateful your highness, and humbly accept this great honour. I shall serve the Underworld and the Devil Race with all my heart and soul."

Sirzechs smiled, and spoke, "Child… now you may raise your head for the crowning."

Novachrono did so, and at this time, Devil King Leviathan placed the [Crown of King] on his head.

With the crown on his head, Novachrono stood up, "Thank you, your grace, I am truly honoured."

Suddenly, the Hall of Promotion was drowned in applause.

After the crowning, Novachrono received his Certificate of Promotion from the Devil King Asmodeus.

With this, the formalities were completed, and it is time for what he has been waiting for for the past thirteen years of his life.

Perhaps Ajuka understood the thoughts in Novachrono's mind and waved his hand as a Stone Monument shining in black colour came falling from above. Strangely, enough it did not touch the ground and remained afloat.

'This is the Monument I read about.'

As Nova's attention was drawn towards the Stone Monument, Ajuka explained, "Nova wrap your hands in your Demonic Power and put it on the Monument, it will read your Demonic Energy Signature, and register you as a [King] in the Evil Pieces System."

Nova followed Ajuka's instructions, after wrapping his right hand with his Demonic Power, he stepped forward and touched the Stone Monument.

Da-dump! Da-dump! Da-dump! Da-dump!

His heart rate increased for a moment as his Demonic Power came into contact with the monument, he was able to feel something probing him for a moment before it disappeared and the stone monument shined in green colour. Nova's handprint was clearly visible on the Stone Monument before it returned to normal, indicating that he has successfully registered as [King].

Next, Ajuka took out a small wooden box from somewhere and gave it to Nova, "This is your set of evil pieces." And added while pointing at a black stone plate on top of the box, "You must inject your Demonic Power into the stone plate so that all the Evil Pieces become yours."

Novachrono nodded, "I understand!" and after once again expressing his gratefulness to the Four Devil Kings, he left the Hall of Promotion.

And here is the next chapter... the chapter - 11. I had planned this chapter quite a while ago, even before I started writing this fanfiction, I just hope that it turned out well.

Now, it's time for a question... how many Mutated Pieces do you guys think our MC has? Any guesses... No, he won't have all the mutated pieces, that just doesn't make sense, and would completely ruin the story.
