5 Chapter 05: Pewter City Gym....

Alex could finally see traces of civilization as he stepped out of the Viridian Forest. After walking for few miles he caught the sight of magnificent Pewter City.

Looking at the busy metropolis and the road filled with both trainers and Pokemon he sighed when he remembered a glimpse of his previous simple but boring life.

He only moved when little Aron nudged his chest in his embrace to get going. Before leaving the forest he had decided to leave Aron outside whereas Darkrai was hiding in his shadow like always.

" Alright alright, let's go. " He caressed the steel head of little Aron with a smile and started walking towards Pewter City.

Pewter City also known as City Of Rock. This rock was actually related with Mt Moon. Mt Moon was famous for the home of a newly coined Fairy type Pokemon Clefairy and availability of the Moonstones.

After entering the city, Alex first went to the Pokemon Center to let Nurse Joy had a routine check on his Pokemon.

While his Pokemon were being treated he booked a room. After entering his room Darkrai floated out of his shadow and leaned near him.

After he collected his Pokemon back, Alex directly left to challenge the Pewter City gym.

The Pewter City gym was located in a secluded corner of the city, so Alex had to ask locals for direction.

Soon he found himself in front of the huge building known as Pewter City gym. Once he approached the door, he announced himself as a challenger. In response the doors slided to the side to open up a narrow path.

After crossing the narrow path, he could see a huge battle stage with some Rock type Pokemon sculptures. Looking at the massive platform he felt excited about his upcoming battle.

" Challenger, welcome to the Pewter City gym. I am Brock, Gym leader of this gym. " A tall young man around the age twenty walked in as he introduced himself. Alex immediately recognised him even before his self introduction.

" Now challenger, state your name and how many Pokemon and badges do you have? " Brock directly asked without wasting any time.

Alex replied, " I am Alex. I don't have any badge yet but i do have four Pokemon. " Brook nodded in understanding, " Alright then, a handicap match. This will be a two on four Pokemon match where--

Alex interrupted him in midway, " Wait a second. I don't need your handicap, just battle me with two on two. "

Brock was surprised but nonetheless accepted, " Very well then. A two on two Pokemon match where only challenger can substitute their Pokemon. The match will end when either on of us unable to continue. Also challenger can choose to forfeit the match. Now you can have the first move. "

Brock threw a Poke Ball which revealed a Geodude. Alex also threw his Poke ball and Charmander revealed himself as he breathed a small ball of fire when he saw his opponent.

After the winning a lot of battle in Viridian Forest, Charmander turned out to be a battle maniac.

A old man appeared next as he took his position as the referee of this match and shouted, " First round Geodude vs Charmander...begin. "

" Charmander, use Dragon Breath. "

He nodded and fired a gust of Dragon energy towards Geodude.

" Use Defence Curl and follow with Rollout. "

Geodude curled itself in a ball shape as the Dragon Breath made contact but as expected Geodude just received minor injury.

Next Geodude started rolling towards Charmander.

Alex knew Rollout was a dangerous move if given enough time so he had to stop Geodude.

" Charmander brace yourself and use Metal Claw full power. Aim at its body "

Charmander stood steadily and took a forward stance as his claws started glowing with pure metallic shine. When Geodude rolled near him, his claws flashed with a metallic white and the result was with a grunt of pain Geodude was sent flying back.

As the dust cleared Geodude could be seen knocked out by that attack.

" Geodude is unable to battle, this round goes to Challenger Alex. Gym leader choose your next Pokemon. " Referee announced.

Brock sighed and recalled Geodude as he muttered a thank you. " Alright Alex, your Charmander surprised me with its raw power. But you can't win the next round. Go Onix. " Brock called out his ace Pokemon a humongous rock serpent.

Looking at the massive serpent, Charmander was nervous because it was his first time he faced against such a huge and intimidating opponent.

" Charmander, don't worry. Have faith in me and remember your training. Now use Metal Claw and try to avoid direct collision. " Alex didn't recall Charmander as he had something else in his mind.

Charmander rushed towards Onix with his shining claw.

Brock waited until Charmander was very close before ordered, " Onix trip it. Then pin it down using Bind. "

As ordered Onix used Rock Throw at Charmander's foot and knocked him off his feet. Charmander's small body harshly collided against the rough surface due to his momentum as he groaned in pain. But it was not over yet as Onix used Bind which made Charmander howl in pain.

The small lizard Pokemon tried to escape but couldn't because of Onix's tight grip and his small limbs.

Alex was also helpless as he didn't expect this unexpected outcome. Actually he gravely underestimated Onix's speed.

Just as he was getting ready to call Charmander back the situation changed all of a sudden.

With a swoosh sound Charmander's tail flame grew multifold in size as Charmander's whole body was enveloped with intense dark black flame. The room's temperature started raising rapidly.

Brock immediately ordered Onix to let Charmander go. Onix dropped the fire lizard to the floor and slithered back to maintain a safe distance.

' Fuck, i forgot about Charmander's Blaze ability. When pushed into a desparate situation this ability can change the tide of battles in an instant. ' Alex thought as his worry turned into glee.

Charmander's eyes turned red as Charmander roared towards the sky and threw a massive Flamethrower towards the sky. A massive pillar of flame appeared followed by a blinding white light.

Alex gasped as Charmander's roar deepened and his body started changing.

Charmander started growing bigger as his arms and legs grew larger. A horn sprouted from his head and finally the light died down as Charmeleon revealed itself but Blaze was still active.

Alex grinned as his Charmeleon was surely bigger than a average Charmeleon. He actually preferred larger and dangerous looking Pokemon rather than cute type.

" Oh no Onix hurry up we have to finish this match, use Rock Polish and then full power Iron Tail. " Brock grew anxious as he ordered Onix.

Onix grunted as its whole body shone with a transparent glow and next raised its brightly glowing tail to smash Charmeleon.

But he underestimated Charmeleon's Blaze ability.

Charmeleon easily dodged the attack and bit Onix's crest with his flaming fang. Onix roared in pain as it tried to shake off Charmeleon.

But Charmeleon wasn't easy to get rid off. He next jumped upward and finished Onix with a solid Iron Tail.

Finally Onix's massive frame slumped on the ground as the rock behemoth gave away. Then Charmeleon let go off Onix and soon followed Onix's footsteps with a final roar.

" Thanks buddy. You have done well now take some rest. " Alex praised Charmeleon as he recalled Charmeleon.

" Onix is unable to battle. Challenger Alex is the winner of this official gym match. " Referee announced the match result soon after. Brock sighed and recalled Onix as he approached Alex with a smile.

" Alex well done. That was one of the most epic battle i have ever fought. Your Shiny Charmeleon was an eye-opener. " He next took out a badge with octagon pattern, " Here take it, it's the Boulder Badge. "

" Thanks. Let's have a rematch again in future with your main team. " Alex took the badge as he saved it in his badge holder. He bid farewell and left the Pewter City gym.

Next he rushed back to Pokemon Centre to get his Pokemon healed.

As he was waiting in the lobby for his Pokemon, he was thinking of his next course of action. Mt. Moon was his next destination.

That night he recalled everything that happened today. He won the Boulder Badge and more importantly got a glimpse of Charmeleon's Blaze ability.

After he finished reflecting on his actions, he went to sleep.

The next morning he asked around as he found out that it would take him atleast two days to reach Mt. Moon. After confirming every details he started walking towards the direction of Mt. Moon.

...

Two days later....

Mt. Moon was a humongous mountain surrounded by dense forest. A Pokemon Centre was situated near the entrance but Alex didn't bother to enter as he still had plenty of reserved food and his Pokemon were in best condition.

Alex summoned Charmeleon to illuminate the dark path while he could easily use Psychic to clear any obstruction on his path.

It had been several hours and Alex finally found a water fountain to take some rest and feed his Pokemon. During his travel he managed to found several Sandslash, Zubat, Paras and a bunch of Geodude.

But he didn't find any Clefairy, although he didn't need one but he was still interested to encounter one.
