2 Aunt Elanor

Emma would often hear this comment in her previous life as well, so she instinctively replied, "I prefer the feeling of holding a physical book in my hand and being able to flip every page of it."

"How wonderful! Someone who can actually portray the traits of books so well. This old grandma applauds you!"

At this moment, Emma finally remembered that she was in a different world. Taken aback, she turned around and spotted an elderly woman dressed in white robes and in a wheelchair looking at her. She had a kind smile, and her eyes made one feel nostalgic. Nevertheless, Emma tensed up upon seeing there was potential danger. After all, this was a world where grandmas and grandpas could be super sages with millenniums of experience.

"You don't have to be so defensive, I'm only the librarian here. I can't even move my legs or perform magic," The old woman quickly added, "You can call me Aunt Elanor, how about you?"

Hearing this, Emma relaxed. "You can call me Emma, Auntie Elanor."

"Ah! You're Emma Lin?" Aunt Elanor seemed to think of something and asked.

What? Emma was sure she was extremely low-profile once she'd got here, so how did this old lady know?

Seeming read her mind, Aunt Elanor said, "My grandson is Rion, he was the one who told me,"

"Oh, I see! I'm sorry for misunderstanding you." Knowing she was mistaken, Emma hurriedly apologized.

"No need to be so polite, I'm sure that you're feeling quite uncomfortable since you just got here, want me to explain a bit for you?"

"Yes please!" Emma was super interested in this new world, but did not know how to read the words on the books here, so she was really troubled. She was originally going to ask Rion to teach her, but since his grandma had offered to, why would she go ask the younger generation?

"Alright, let's start with the history of this place,"

"This world is supposedly Heaven, the place where gods and angels resided in. However, the gods were never balanced between the good and bad, and eventually, the gods and demons fought each other to the point of extinction." Aunt Elanor explained.

"Why were there good and bad gods staying in the same place from the start?" Emma thought it was quite idiotic to have two opposing sides living in the same place. Wasn't that just inviting trouble?

"Actually, no one knows exactly why. Legends say that the first original God had two children, and of the two, one became kind while the other turned evil." Aunt Elanor shrugged and continued on.

"The current Heaven is divided into nine equal continents, with each continent having it's own Grand Duke. These Dukes are the remaining angels, or messengers of gods, that survived the war.

Did you know that this school's principal, Lord Dion, is also this continent's Grand Duke? He was formerly the Devil God's messenger." At this point, Aunt Elanor's voice lowered to a whisper as she said, "Don't you think it's weird that the austere and cruel Lord Dion would start a magic academy? Rumor has it that he is hoping to use the large amount of students to look for his daughter and wife who went missing over 100 years ago. That's why this school always holds an annual world search."

After saying that, Aunt Elanor continued like nothing had happened, and Emma didn't bother asking further. Once Aunt Elanor finished talking about all the continents and history, it was time to return to class. Emma waved goodbye to Aunt Elanor and returned to her classroom.

Over the course of the next few weeks, aside from going to school, sleeping, and eating, Emma spent all her time in the library. During this time, Aunt Elanor taught Emma how to write, and at class, Emma was attentively listening to the professor, jotting notes.

Sometimes she would come across words she was unable to read yet or had questions about the books she read, Emma would always go and consult with Aunt Elanor.

During this period, Aunt Elanor also learned quite a bit about Emma.

Aside, from reading and learning about this new world, she observed Emma was quite unemotional. Aunt Elanor would often ask if Emma was getting along with her classmates, and if she had made any friends, but Emma would only give a half-baked reply.

This was indeed very true as Emma was also very introverted in her previous life, never leaving the house except for the library and convenience store. Her parents didn't give sh*t about her either, so no one was there to explain the importance of friends to Emma.
