1 Chapter 1 - First Impression

Diana's P.O.V

"We are so happy to hear that you want to adopt." The principal of the Foster care said smiling, bringing her hands together. "Are you experienced with kids at all?" She asked.

"Oh, yes. Actually me and my husband have 3 kids. But we would actually like to extend our family." I replied as I was looking around.

"That's wonderful news. What age would you like?" The principal asked.

"Late teens..." I replied with a weak smile.

"Alright then, I will be back in 10 minutes so we can have a look together." The principal said. "If you could excuse me for a bit."

"Of course, do your work." I said back as I watched her walk away. Just then, my husband Chris came back to me. "Finally."

"I'm sorry honey, I really needed to use the bathroom or else I would literally explode here from the-"

"Jesus Christ, Chris!" I whispered-yelled at him.

"What?" He asked in confusion. I rolled my eyes and held back up my purse.

"Are you really going to talk about that in here?!"

"What? It's nature."

"Do you even remember why we're here?" Chris nodded surprised.

"Yeah, to adopt."

"I'm glad you remember that." I sighed. Then I paused and I looked at him. "I love you." He smiled and took my hand in his, before kissing it.

"I love you too, honey."

"I hope you washed your hands after using the restroom." I joked and he gave a small giggle.

"Don't worry, I didn't." I quickly grabbed my hand away from him.

"Chris!" He laughed once again, before placing his hand behind my waist.

"So, where is the principal?"

"She said she had to go for a bit, so we can look around and see what... kids we like." I said as I was seeking all the young and teens kids walking around. Thinking that all these kids wish to be in a family breaks my heart. "If I could... I would adopt them all." My voice cracked at the end of the sentence. "Everyone deserves love... right Chris?" I looked at him, questioning if he was agreeing. His facial expression showed pure love and sadness for all these kids.

"You are more than right, Diana." He comfroted me by caressing my waist softly "And the saddest part is that we can't give to all of these kids...the love they still are waiting for."

"I know." I said as I rested my head on Chris's shoulder. "I hope they will find a home filled with love one day.. and I hope we will find the child for us to give him or her... what they really need.. a parent..and love as well."

"Excuse me?" A sudden soft voice coming from behind us, made me and Chris slightly jump.

We both turned our heads to see a girl holding two boxes on her hands.. she was so innocently beautiful..."I'm sorry if I frighten you, I just saw you standing here for a long time and I was wondering if I could help you with anything." She completed, giving us a smile.

I smilled at her in awe before replying to her question. "Uh no, we are waiting for the principal for some information--.. do you live here?" I asked her.

"Yes I do." She replied smiling.

"Let me help you with that." Chris shoved himself in the conversation and took the boxes from the young girl.

"You didn't have to, thank you." she shyly said.

"Don't even mention it. Where do you want me to take them?" Chris asked, holding still the boxes.

"At the garden.." The girl seemed quite uneasy. "Is it okay for you to get them there?"

"Of course it is. Diana do you mind?" Chris asked me.

"No problem, honey." The two of them started to walk away and soon enough, the principal was back.

"I hope I didn't make you wait for long." She asked, adding a smile.

"Oh, not at all Mrs. Smith." I paused as I glanced at the girl. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Of course."

"What's the name of that girl over there?" I asked curiously while I pointed at her.

"Oh..that's Skylar. She's the flower of this Foster care. Special girl...with manners." She said, looking at her proudly. "She had a really tragic past and yet she keeps smiling."

My smile disappeared as I heard the last sentence. "Tragic past?...What happened to her?"....
