Chapter 2

I gasp loudly as I sit upright in a dark space. My gasp echoes throughout the space, startling animals that I heard flew away. They were probably bats.

Sweat formed on my forehead, my face in a state of shock because I'm in a mysterious cave, not dead underneath the debris of my apartment building.

"Where the hell am I…?" I mutter to myself. I look at my hands. I can't tell what they look like, but they feel fine. I stand up, still trying to process the situation. It's completely dark here. I don't have a fear of darkness, which is surprising. The only things that are creeping me out are the faint echoes of water dripping, the squeaks from mice, and the potential that there may be dangerous monsters here.

"The pendant- Where is it?" I look around. My eyes are slightly adjusting to the dark, but it's still very unclear where everything is. I faintly see my own hands when I put them near my face now, but everything else is a no-go. "Did… did that pendant bring me here?"

It's not a far-fetched idea. There are many items and equipment that humanity hasn't discovered, because of the vast amount of dimensions that intertwine with Earth. But, there has never been something like this before. A piece of jewelry sending you to a place…

It was then I realized that my eyes are seeing through the dark the more I concentrate on trying to adjust.

"Wait…" Another idea pops up in my head. What if that pendant also gave me Player skills? I've seen this many times before. I watched movies and TV shows with Players, and I remember all of the things they do. Just like an MMORPG game, they have status windows and can see those things that no one else can see.

"Status window!" I say, not too loudly. It still echoed, but I'm more focused on the fact that the window appeared in front of me! I open my mouth in surprise as I read over everything on the window.

Andromeda Lupus

Level: 1

Health: 21/21

MP: 60/60

Role: Adapter

Condition: Stable

Special Skill(s): "Adapt," "Enhance," and "Shift"

Whoa.

I'm shaking from excitement. My mouth naturally turned upward into a bright and wide smile. I didn't know I'd finally become a Player!

It takes all my effort to not scream and shout in happiness and joy. I calm myself down and focus on the best action to do now that I'm in a mysterious cave. I notice my role, an "Adapter." I've never heard of that before. Thankfully, I addressed the role out loud and I got the description for it.

[ Adapter (S-Class)

A special role that is obtained only by touching the gem in the Pendant of Heaven and Hell. The Adapter can easily adapt to environments, mentally and physically, which also applies to battle. The Adapter has special skills that will help them adapt. ]

I assume that the pendant was made by both angels and devils because of the name. I'll have to figure that out later… I concentrate on the skills though. "How amazing…" I mutter as I read the special skills that I received.

[ Adapt

The user adapts to the current situation, battle, and/or environment. Provides the necessities in surviving and adapting to the situation. Can apply to any sort of situation.

Enhance (Level 1)

Enhances the user, an item, or someone to an E-rank enhancement the user wants. Can put the enhancement temporarily or permanently, but enhancing permanently will cost 200 MP.

Shapeshift (Level 1)

The user shifts their physical appearance to anything they want. The requirement for shifting into something is to know the shape very well and 30 MP. This effect lasts for ten seconds. ]

"What the hell…" I've become afraid of how overpowered I am. Imagine if I was able to level up Enhance and Shift…! I need to improve fast. "Alright, let's use Adapt!"

I felt a change in my body when I activated my skill, and it was painful.

"AAAAGGHH!" I scream, not caring about the echoes. My muscles were slightly growing, and it felt as if somebody was stabbing me inside of my body. I writhe on the cold and uneven stone ground, gripping onto my clothes as I scream from pain.
