Emilio's Incredible Farm

Not so long time ago in a small farm that lies at the foot of a mountain, there were chickens, cows, pigs and a goat that munched all the time. A young boy named Emilio tends the animals while his parents sell vegetables in the market.

Everyday, Emilio feeds the animals, cleans them and plays with them the whole afternoon until his parents come back home from work.

It was always been like this in the farm until Emilio had grown tired with the same things he does everyday.

One morning after his parents left, Emilio thought of an idea. "What if I change this place into an incredible farm?" he said to himself. "I will make a magic potion and turn this farm upside down."

Emilio took the bucket from the well and went to the kitchen. He grabbed the bottles of vegetable oil, vinegar and soy sauce then poured them all into the container. He even sprinkled it with sugar, pepper, salt and other spices. He saw coffee, margarine, flour and milk and also mixed them in.

He went to his mother's garden and picked some flowers. Gumamela, sampaguita, santan and more, he took a small rock and crushed them all. He stuffed these into the bucket and mixed them with a big wooden spoon.

And just when he thought it was good enough, he saw a gallon of red paint at the back of their house. He shook it well first before he opened the lid and poured the paint into the bucket--- bottoms up!

Emilio mixed the liquid again and declared, "This is the magic potion for my incredible farm!" He scooped some of it and gave it to the goat for he knew it will eat just about anything. The goat licked the small serving then drank it to the last drop.

The goat turned all red and suddenly sprang up high over the farm house. It went down and up again. The goat could jump high as if it has springs in its feet. Emilio was so happy because he has never seen an incredible thing like this before.

He again scooped some magic potion and gave it to the cows, pigs and chickens. He also watered the mango tree with it and excitedly waited what would happen next.

In an instant, the farm indeed became an incredible farm. The cows got wings and flew over the fields. The pigs ran so fast like horses in the race track. The chickens started singing like a choir. They were singing the tune I usually sing every time I feed them. And the mango tree? It danced as if listening to a rock n' roll song. Emilio was so delighted, "Boring farm no more. This is my incredible farm!"

Everything was fine until things started to go wrong. The goat learned to control its springs that it jumped at anything it wishes to eat like the house's roof tiles. The flying cows saw a flock of birds and chased it. The pigs were very wild that they ran over anything on sight. The chickens became so annoying after singing the same song a hundred times. And the mango tree won't stop dancing even almost all its fruits and leaves have fallen on the ground.

Emilio didn't know what to do. He never thought his incredible farm would turn out to be like this. "Stop!", Emilio shouted, "I want everything to be back the way they used to be!" But nothing happened. All Emilio could do was to cry while things got worse in the farm.

All of a sudden, there was silence. So quiet that the only thing Emilio can hear was his self crying. He stopped sobbing and looked around. He saw his goat, the cows, the chickens and the pigs staring at him as if asking for something.

Emilio got back to his senses and reached for the bucket of magic potion and hugged it so tight then said, "Oh, no you don't!" And he threw the liquid into the river. The incredible farm is back to normal. Good thing the magic potion lasted only for a few hours.

Emilio didn't tell his parents about the incredible farm. He wanted to keep it as a secret. Besides, they might not even believe his story. He learned his lesson and loved his farm more than ever. For him, nothing would be more incredible than a peaceful and beautiful farm where he and his family live happily.
