1 Prologue

I took my seat in chemistry class, ready to start the lesson. The teacher had the presentation on the board. After that is when it all started going down.

We heard someone scream and a gunshot went off. Our teacher ran to lock the main door and told someone to lock the other door. We huddled against the wall the door was on.

More screaming and gunshots before the intercom went off alerting us of an active shooter. The lights were turned off as well as our phones and our voices.

It seemed like forever that we had been waiting. A loud forceful bang on the door made all of us jump. I held tighter to the pair of scissors I was holding. I looked over towards the door and noticed that the table was slightly moving.

I tapped the teacher and she directed us to spread out with our weapons in hand. Another loud bang made me jump so bad that I almost tripped over a desk.

The last forceful shove that was given moved the table just enough to where the shooter could get in.

I lunged at the shooter before they saw me and stabbed them with the scissors. I knocked the gun out of his hand and away from him. I layed on top of him until we got the rope tied around his hands.

Not long after, the police came in and told us to leave the building with our hands up. I made it outside and looked for my little sister and my big brother.

"Jayden!" Someone screamed. I turned around to see my big brother running towards me. "Come on, we have to go!"

"Where's Amiya?" I asked.

"She's in the ambulance." He explained, grabbing my arm. "Let's go!"

We took off running for his truck. As soon as we got in, our principal told us to go. Scott took off following the ambulance. He had his flashers on all the way to the hospital.

After we got there, Scott called Mom again to tell her what hospital we were in. I just kept crying, wishing it was me that got hurt.

A nurse came back to us to let us know that she was going into surgery. I went to get water and passed out.

When I woke up, Scott and the nurse were standing over me asking if I could hear them.

"I can hear you." I mumbled.

"We're going to get you checked out." Scott informed me.

The nurse and Scott walked me to an open Emergency Room. They layed me down and the nurse started taking my vitals. She asked a lot of questions about my head and my chest.

After forty-five minutes, they let me go to the waiting room where Mom and Scott were waiting.

Mom pulled me into a hug through her tears.

"I'm so glad you're okay." She said through sobs.

"They just told us about Amiya." Scott said. "She's in critical condition and they couldn't start surgery."

This made me and Mom both start sobbing uncontrollably. I was worried for my sister. I really wished it was me in there instead of her.

Three hours went by before we were told to say our goodbyes to Amiya.

We all did. When we came out, her heart monitor flatlined.
