What happened

Noami watched Joey scarf down at least 6 pounds of meat like it was the last piece of meat on earth.

She made sure to stare so she could get his attention.

She waited for some time for him to look into her eyes.

The awkwardness got to Joey and eventually looked to see her smiling at him.

"Since your all nice and stuffed why don't you tell me what happened to you at the house, I already know some of what you did."

She watched Joey's face freeze and he put down the piece of meat in his hand.

On the other side of the campfire.

Joey looked at Naomi with a suspicious glance the look at his sister, her eyes were red and joey wasn't surprised because she fell asleep In the room and woke up to watch him fighting for his life.

He sighed, the asked, "Rayla do you know how we got here?"

Rayla slowly shook her head sniffling the snot that occasionally ran down her face.

Joey then explained everything that happened the day before but left out anything about what his Uncle had told him about sky warrior and this being his father's fault and left out anything about the fight.

"Do you think grandpa hates us? Joey, what if it's because he couldn't take care of me" Joey looked at the tears welling up in her eyes but couldn't help but feel guilty.

Joey hugged Rayla to try and comfort her.

"This is not your fault, I'll find that old man and drag him back here by his tongue."

Joey said anything he could to comfort his sister but he wasn't sure he could do anything to protect her.

After seeing how strong his uncle was then almost dying to Ms Moore the day after, Joey felt hopeless.

"Hey, can you answer my question now"

Joey had black lines running through his face when he heard this, he was still reluctant to talk about all this.

"I know you were trying to kill her, just tell me what happened dammit. I won't kill someone who was trying to protect themselves". Naomi said annoyed.

Joey looked at Rayla with a guilty expression then sighed.

"Fine"

Joey recalled all the events of Ms Moore from the moment they walked into her house and what happened after he entered the shower but he spared some details.

Joey watched her facial expression as he went into the gruesome details, her face kept changing the more she heard what they had been through and about her cutting Rayla in front of him.

Rayla herself seemed to be in shock from all this as well the last thing she remembered was being at the butcher shop.

After Joey finished describing the gruesome details Noaomi face started changing like a chameleon-like she was struggling to think about what she should do then she sighed and rubbed her temples.

"Fine I'll pretend I never heard any of this and make up something in my report, the higher-ups might be upset because you are technically the reason she died but we all knew she wasn't right in the head," Naomi said rubbing in between her eyebrows.

"I don't need your favours, tell them whatever you want. I can't owe someone when I have nothing to my name" Joey snorted and ignored her.

"If that's all please leave, I don't need any more favours from you"

Naomi was unsatisfied with his behaviour to her generosity, not him expecting him to be this cold.

She then said, "Fine sorry to bother you all, good luck staying alive". Naomi walked out of the cave leaving Rayla and Joey alone.

"Brother do you really think we live on our own she could've taken us i--"

"Stop thinking like that Rayla! last time I trusted someone it got both of us hurt I won't make the same mistake. She could easily take us to Sky warrior Base!" Joey yelled.

Rayla looked sad but Joey ignored her because he knew this will be for their own good. He hated himself for putting her through that.

Joey was sure needed medication because being on that much sleep gas for almost two days couldn't be good.

"Ok big brother" Rayla sounded dejected and laid down on the other of the campfire with

Joey looked outside and saw the sun peeking over the horizon but he still felt sleepy, he looked at Rayla curled up into a ball in her own side of the cave.

Joey rubbed his feet in the smouldering fire and properly smothered the flames and went back to lie down.

He slept for a whole week.

After Joey woke up he broke out into a yawn that made his bones pop.

Joey looked around while wiping off the slob that soaked the right cheek. He looked out at the sun high in the sky and could tell it was somewhere about mid-day.

The cave was clean and the goat was tossed away and replaced with berries and fruits.

"Did Rayla do this?" Joey wondered out loud.

"Big brother you awake" Rayla came and hugged him while handing him some of the berries on a plate.

Joey wasn't polite and grabbed as many as his hands could.

Rayla watched him stuffing his cheeks then asked "are we gonna live here we have no parents so we can't live in the city and we have no money to live in a town".

Joey knew what Rayla was saying was true and thought living here was smarter than getting eaten alive in the city without getting a job.

You couldn't join the Sky warrior's until you were 18 but Joey was 15.

"Fine we can stay here, Maybe we can find someone to take us in….." Joey thought back on Ms Moore and shook the idea out of his head.

"Brother, why can't that lady adopt us?"

Joey saw the innocence in her face but a pity she didn't know how cruel the world was.

Joey embraced her, he was sad that she had to get through this with him and he knew she was holding back her question and tears because he was injured at the time.

"Rayla not everyone in this world is kind, they all want something and children get taken away all the time" Joey felt guilty having to tell his sister all this but knew he had to at some point.

But children disappearing were almost too common, they were forced to work against their will as orphans and the authorities couldn't keep up with the threats of the skies attacking earth and skies who have infiltrated the planet and leaking information.

"Don't worry Rayla when I'm 18-years-old I can take the Sky warrior exam".

Joey tried his best to comfort his sister but he knew it wouldn't be easy surviving as a minor.

He could only worry about the now and make it to 18.
