Alvin's plan had been simple initially. He had wanted to take as much money as he could from the company so he would leave Melanie and Melvin and start a business of his own.

He had wanted to go far away. Somewhere he wouldn't have to compete with Melvin or have him throw his love for Melanie in his face. And then, while he had been working on his plan, just two days before Melvin's death, he and Melvin had had a terrible row, and then Melvin had threatened to throw him out of the company and cut him off from the family.

'How could the bastard have ever come up with something like that when the company had been built on his idea?' Alvin had asked himself angrily.

"I will like to see you try!" Alvin spat at Melvin daringly as he walked out of the office angrily.

Right there and then, he had made up his mind to take everything from Melvin that was rightfully his. And that included both the company and Melanie.
