The room was very silent as both Melvin and Melanie walked inside. Neither of them said a word to each other as Melvin leaned against the closed door while Melanie stood in front of the mirror as she tried to gather her thoughts. 

She had always known the day would come when she would have to tell him about his biological father and siblings, but she hadn't imagined it would be like this. 

"I'm sorry," Melanie said in a shaky voice as she looked at Melvin. His shoulders were stooped, but when she looked into his face, she couldn't read his expression. 

"He isn't my father, is he?" Melvin asked the one question that kept reverberating through his mind. 

"Of course, he is your father. Though not your biological father, but he is your father, no doubt," Melanie said quietly as she sat down on the bed and patted the empty space beside it for him to join her.
