"You're traveling?" Melvin asked immediately after Melanie disconnected the call with Alvin.

"Yes. I can't bear to look at him in the face until I'm entirely sure he didn't keep all of this away from me on purpose," Melanie said with a sigh as she dropped her phone and turned on the car's ignition. 

"I'm coming with you," Melvin said, but Melanie shook her head as she drove out of the parking lot.

"You don't have to. You've always wanted your freedom. Do whatever you want to do while I'm away, and also keep an eye on your dad," Melanie suggested.

"I'm coming with you. I can't let you be alone, especially not in this state," Melvin said with a tone of finality, which made a smile twitch on Melanie's lips.

"You want to leave your girlfriend just so you can travel with your old mother?" She asked, making Melvin roll his eyes.
