18 Not Really Powerless

"My name is Leonel. I am your loyal familiar that you have summoned, Aranea Griffin."

Aranea's eyes were still wide open.

The moment Leonel stood up, he helped her up then took her by the waist then pulled her in his arms.

He then looked at everyone who was eyeing the two of them suspiciously, his voice resounding in the vast great hall as he got their attention.

"Anyone who dares speak ill of her will have to taste the wrath of my spear's blade!"

Soon after, a tall spear with a sharp blade appeared on his left hand as he ruthlessly banged its edge on the floor, making some parts of the tiles crack. Aranea twitched her brow as she felt his arm around her tightening. She felt uncomfortable and had immediately shoved him away from her, breaking his hold.

"Why are you this... weird? Who are you and why do you know my name!?"

Leonel blinked his eyes a few times as he cocked his head to the side, not understanding why Aranea still looked clueless.

"Why... haven't I told you? I am Leonel and I am your loyal familiar!"

Aranea looked at her twin sister from afar and saw that her expression was aghast as well!

She then looked at the other students who had the same expression as her sister's, then her eyes wandered to the professors sitting at the side.

Even they had a dumbfounded expression on their faces—the headmaster standing in amusement as he watched the two.

"I—I don't know what's happening. I was just looking at my phone when—"

Suddenly, Aranea remembered that she was holding her phone moments ago. She then put her hand on her mouth as she eyed Leonel beside her, observing him.

One glance at the man, one could say that he looks like a representative of the color blue. She then remembered that the casing of her phone was color blue, making her widen her eyes as she slowly pointed at the man who suddenly appeared kissing her.

"Don't tell me... you're my smartphone?"

A small smile appeared on Leonel's face. He then nodded to answer her question then his voice sounded sweeter, sending shivers down her spine.

"Yes! I am your smartphone. Your lips had beckoned me to—"

"Ah, ah!" Aranea's face reddened as she hid her shy expression with her hand. "Don't say it... I know," she mumbled, making Leonel furrow his brows as he magically made his spear disappear in thin air.

"Are you not aware of your powers?"

"Obviously not until you appeared!"

Shaking herself from her embarrassment, Aranea quickly looked at the professors and their headmaster when she remembered a more important issue at hand: her suddenly having the power to summon familiars.

As she grew, she had accepted the fact of being powerless so why has this happened now!?

"I need answers," she spoke loudly, everyone's eyes still on her. "What happened just now and why does he claim to be my familiar?"

Hearing this question, the professors looked at each other then without knowing the answers themselves, they looked at the headmaster who was still standing in bewilderment.

Even the teachers of the academy seemed to be looking for answers from him as well!

What could Aranea possibly have for the higher ups to act this way?

This event that had transpired proved that the girl is not really powerless at all!

She definitely possessed something.

"Well, Aranea..."

With the headmaster speaking after he cleared his throat, what he said next had surprised everyone.

"You seemingly have a rare magic that is rumored to be possessed only by the one and only fabled goddess of the magical realm."

"What!?"

Everyone exclaimed in utmost sheer shock—as if their headmaster had dropped a major bomb on them.

Everyone's eyes now shifted back to Aranea, their faces completely plastered with disbelief and at the same time, consternation.

In an instant, the great hall fell in a loud discussion, making Aranea hear each comment.

"She has the same magic as the fabled goddess?"

"As we know, only the goddess had the ability to summon the elemental deities!"

"Does Aranea really have that—the same magic as the fabled goddess?"

"Don't jump into conclusions! It may be that her magic is the same."

"But in the history of magic, no one had a magic as this... other than the goddess herself!"

"She seems to be completely unaware about it..."

"Yeah! And the 'familiar' standing by her side seems to be loyal to her regardless of her cluelessness..."

Hearing the murmurs circulating in the great hall, Headmaster Gavin felt like a vein in his head would pop.

With the noise of the hundreds of students heard, his eyebrows twitched as he levitated off the ground, getting their attention as he shouted, silencing them in a heartbeat.

"Quiet!"

The mumbles started dying down with each passing second as the headmaster waited for them to silence.

With everyone's eyes on him and with the headmaster satisfied with the quietness, Headmaster Gavin slowly landed on the floor.

"Aranea is not at all powerless as most people thought. She possesses great power that could summon the elemental deities—beings who could control a specific element with their mastery. With her power, she could beckon them and have alliances with them. But..."

Headmaster Gavin's voice sounded heavy and serious. With every word Aranea heard from him about her power, it had instantly made her feel discombobulated—lost... not knowing what he's saying.

'Elemental deities... beckoning them and having alliances with them... what the hell is all this?'

Headmaster Gavin looked at Aranea, his eyes locked with hers as he continued to speak.

"In order to have full control of these elemental deities, she has to gain their trust and make them kiss her again."

There was silence for a while until an uproar broke it.

"WHAT?!?"

Aranea looked at the man who was just a phone back then. Her face turned red as she averted her gaze from him then she shook her head, shifting her attention to what Headmaster Gavin had said.

"I'm so lost... so, so lost! Why do I have to get this power of summoning them?! This... it's a lot to take in!"

The girl couldn't keep her thoughts to herself. With what she said, the headmaster sighed as he clapped his hands, getting everyone's attention.

"After the meal, everyone is instructed to go straight to their dormitories or class houses. Aranea and her familiar, however, would have to stay behind for a discussion. That is all."

With that, everyone looked at her and her familiar, Leonel, as the headmaster walked back to his seat to continue the feast that was long interrupted by Aranea's unexpected summoning.
