7 The Gold Gaze

I spend the rest of the night hunched over, sleeping with my head between my legs waking. I to the early morning light glowing through the muddied windows.

My stomach growls making me realize I didn't even get to eat at all since the time I left the office.

Now I am waiting to see my fate from the witches who caught me in mid-flight. I feel miserable and tired, falling over to my side to go back to sleep for a little bit longer against the dank floor.

The door opens, but I stay still not, wishing to move from the spot I was laying. only looking forward, I can feel a flimsy shoe push its way under, kicking me in the sides.

"Get up!" Hoa shouts.

I turn over to look up at her groggily, she seems angry with me although I could admit I am not sure why she would be when it is hard to sleep in such conditions.

Getting up to follow her to the living room I am greeted by a woman dressed in a black suit and matching pencil skirt standing between the two witches.

"Good morning Christian…" She says.

"Good morning?" I replied.

"It's good to know you are still not turned, had us scared there."

I cover my face with my hands, sprawling my fingers out against the eye I recall Gavyn using in an attempt to make them think I activated it.

"I am the 'Devil's Assistant', just because I don't have fangs doesn't mean I can't!" I yell out boastfully. Inside I was shaking down to my bones so much I could feel my legs wobble in distress.

The witches become instantly scared, holding tight to themselves, but the woman was not phased. She moves her hands to her hips, merely amused by the show I was putting on.

Strolling over to me, she grabbed my hand.

A quick look at my palm and my bluff is called out before I had a real chance to ham it up.

"The symbol isn't gone, you really think I wouldn't know?" She shouts.

My face reddens, but I knew it wouldn't work. I hold my hands out ready to surrender to her. I was more afraid to fight back than try something equally terrible.

Hoa and Oaklyn snicker under their breath watching the cuffs slide over my wrists. She clutches fast to the rope attached to the cuffs, having me trail beside her.

"Oaklyn, Hoa...we will talk later okay?" She responded.

They nod in unison as I am taken into custody. Outside many men in black have the house surrounded the building so I knew there was so chance of escape even if I tried.

I hastily look around just in case I could liberate myself when one of the men smack me in the face with the butt of their gun. The woman puts distance between the guards when I stick my foot out instinctively prepared to kick him in the face.

"I saw it! Are you sure he isn't turned, Everly?" The man accuses yelling and bringing out his gun to aim it at my face.

"Saw what?" I asked extremely annoyed.

Everly presses her fingers down on my eyelid checking my iris. I watch as she swings her arm back gaining enough momentum to punch me in the gut.

I fall to the ground on my knees trembling paralyzed unable to muster myself to breathe, I gasp out staring out at the grass.

"I am not taking any chances with you…" Everly said with a grunt.

She ends up pulling me up by the hairs on my head, using physical force to get me into the black car. With what little strength I have I press my hands against the car door.

Boosting my other leg up, I prop my foot into the edge of the door holding firmly. I do everything I can to not get into the vehicle.

"Why are you fighting this so much?" She shouts putting her back into it.

"Because I am not guilty of whatever you think I am!" I yell back infuriated.

"Stop resisting Sweetie!" A recognizable voice could be heard.

"Oh no…" I say with dread as my voice breaks.

"Please Christian, they only want to help you!"

"Mom...Dad…" I whisper in disbelief.

I get down only to gawk at them holding a phone up at my face. My mother and father held hostage in this dimly lit room sitting at a table with a couple of other men.

"For the record...they came of their own accordance Christian," Everly explained.

"They told us everything, please just come." My Mom says holding her handbag to her chin.

I am so tired I want to just give up...this whole thing has been a struggle for me. It got even worse now they involved my parents. I don't know what to do all of a sudden.

Everything is becoming incredibly numb as I stare down ignoring my parents talking. I start to tune everything out when suddenly I feel the ache in my palm.

My cuffed hands drop down in front of me, my eye...it's really burning… I try to close it.

I arch my head back a moment closing my eyes, but the stinging won't stop…

" Hey what are you doing?" One of the men asked.

I drop my head forward, my eyes half-open staring straight into his. I can't hear anything all of a sudden…

I became completely limber in a confident gaze rocking my head back and forth side to side.

I intuitively smash my hand against his face propelling him to the ground as I steadily lurch ahead with my head down in a trance.

The other men bring their guns pointing them at me; it hardly phases me hearing their screams rise, almost a harmony to my ears.

Instead of my usual timidness, I fearlessly walk my way. I become angry at the constraints, pulling the cuffs apart like they were toys between my fingers.

"Stand down! I am warning you!" Everly shouts.

In her eyes, I could see it...I could Gavyn's golden irises bursting a dim glow through my own. I only smile ambling away from her.

I wish solely to be more than a reflection of a dead man but rise to be more than that as I am the shadow he casts merely in my form.

I swat their bullets away with ease. Some of the men fear me by running away from my presence, but I continue to only walk in their line of fire.

I twist the guns out of their hands from a few left that dared to stop me.

I start to laugh, I couldn't stop laughing raising my hand to my face till tears ran down my cheeks.

I felt like this was a silly game; one a human could not understand. I watch them turn tail and flee; I cackle in observation of them thinking they could save their lives, but I allow them to move as fast as they could before I decidedly take one of their guns from the ground. Shooting aimlessly at their feet watching them dance.

"I know you couldn't be trusted!" She screams.

Hobbling to her side I squat down, from where I am sitting to view the horrified witches scurry inside as I set my sights on them.

"Would you like to play with me now…?" I whispered into her ear while caressing her cheek with my fingers, twirling a strand of her hair.

Taking her wrist, I bury my face into her palm inhaling her earthly scent; something almost seductive about her flesh pulls me into wanting her more and more.

I grab the back of her head forcing my snout into her neck pressing hard enough she begins to cry.

"Shhh…" I say trying to calm her down dragging my fingers through her hair roughly.

"Christian! Cease this now!" I heard a familiar voice ring out to me.

My eyes widen, the voice pulls me out of the hypnotic daze. I release Everly from my grasp.

She pushes away shuffling to her feet, my eye is no longer burning; I feel a deep sense of relief allowing me to finally rest.

I feel a pair of arms catch me as I close my eyes, everything becomes dark…
