4 Takin' care of us

A few days passed. Emily went house hunting, but was too depressed to pick one, and her grandmother is safe in a hotel, as is she.

When it was finally Thursday, the news had already spread around her school about Emily's misfortune.

Emily tried her best not to fall apart, but her best was evidently not good enough...

In the middle of sixth period, about 1:00 in the afternoon, a note wound up on Emily's desk that read, "I'm so sorry for your loss...Oh wait, I'm not...Serves you right" with an arrow directed towards the back of the classroom. She turned around, as instructed, only to find the class bully sneering at her.

"How immature." she thought. "But I shouldn't let it get to me, right?"

Before she could answer her own question, her desk was covered in tears. She raised her hand.

"May I use the washroom?" Emily asked her teacher.

"Yes. Don't take too long" She replied while grading papers.

Emily sat up, gathered her things, and walked to the washroom closest to her classroom.

"Why... Why did I let that kid get to me. He's an immature, jerk, who has no feelings." While she thought, Emily untentionally made herself laugh. "Okay. Back to class."

The rest of the day wasn't as bad as it had been once Emily got to the hotel.

She opened the door only to hear distant sobs. She went nextdoor to her grandmother's room, as she was the one sobbing.

"Grandma, hey. Hey...What's wrong?" She's already made her way over to the edge of the bed where her grandmother was sitting. She kneeled down in front of her, and gently placed her hand on her grandmother's knee.

"I *hic*, I got the letter from the embalmer that they couldn't *hic* do anything about his appearance. They cant *hic* you can't... You won't get to say goodbye..." Now her sobs were as loud as ever.

"Hey, Grandma. It's okay. I know that's difficult for you, as it is for me, but I think we... I think we have to let him go." Emily began to cry. "He's in a better place now. With Mom, and Dad."

"Yes. You're right. Thank you, Em." She gathered herself back together. After brushing the tears off of her face, she grabbed Emily's rosy cheeks, now wet with tears. "Thank you."

"Anytime." Emily sniffled, stood up, and hugged her grandmother. While over her shoulder, she whispered "goodnight" to her grandmother. Then, she walked out of the room and into her own.
