Child of The Beasts

Amari awoke in the dark. Well, more like partial darkness. There were two yellow orbs floating above him menacingly, exerting some sort of invisible pressure.

He kicked his feet against the sand, trying to run, but he quickly found that his new body was incapable of that.

There was a sort of inescapable aura and pressure he felt. Amari had felt the same thing when he was in the same room as the General. She was the scariest person he had ever met. And for good reason.

His mind flashed back to the time when she had cruelly ordered the death of a few suspected spies within their settlement. No interrogation, nothing.

If he didn't understand her mindset, he would go as far as to label her a neo-Hitler.

But this was different. The General's aura was something done unknowingly. It was the amalgamation of years of experience and killing. This, on the other hand, seemed almost real.

Amari even felt the sand beneath him sink beneath his feet.

"Why is a demon baby abandoned here in this cave?" A voice asked.

He panicked again and squirmed from how… inhuman the voice sounded. It almost sounded like metal scraping against rocks.

That changed nothing whatsoever, he was still a baby and still unable to move.

The voice said nothing else and picked him up, throwing him unto its back easily. He clenched the fur of the beast and suddenly felt himself moving.

They had burst out of a large cave and sprinted in an unknown direction.

'What the fuck?!'

They were still in the darkness, but now the lights defining the environment had become brighter.

The moon was blue here. Everything smelled different also. The difference was vague, but Amari could notice it straight away. He had learned to appreciate such things after being engrossed in so many books about war to suddenly being thrown into that war.

If he could move, he would do all he could to just sit down and appreciate the abnormal change. But after a few seconds on the giant wolf's back– he'd learned this with the help of the moon–Amari decided that would be unwise.

First of all, monsters crawled around literally everywhere you could think of. In the air, in the lakes they passed by, hidden in plain sight and more.

On this journey to the unknown, Amari had seen more than once, bigger creatures than the wolf he rode on being burned to death, then eaten by small beings who would pass for mascots back on earth.

It was cruel. He didn't mind though. And that realization was numbing.

Finally, the gigantic wolf was coming to a slow. They were in a forest now. It looked exactly like a forest back home, with green leaves and differing sizes of trees but there was something about it though.

Maybe it was the singing faes that zipped around the trees excitedly, or the occasional flying rabbit, or the frequent animalistic howls that didn't resemble any of the ones from back home.

Amari wasn't sure. Maybe it was just him.

'I'm running mad aren't I,'

He laughed, only to let out a childish giggle.

Several beasts and monsters turned to stare at the wolf carrying the baby atop it. However, they all focused back on what they were doing, ignoring the mysterious wolf.

The strange pair of wolf and demon baby– Amari wasn't sure– arrived in front of a cave, similar to the one they had just left, but this one was significantly bigger.

"What do you have there, Reida? A meal, I suppose." A newer voice said.

Amari squeezed the wolf's fur harder and buried his head down in fear.

This voice was deeper and more stoney than Reida's voice, leading him to the conclusion that Reida was a female wolf. His jaw slacked a little. It made sense though.

'Only something with motherly instincts would do something like that.'

"No, Felaud. It is not food. I brought it here to take care of him!"

"Why the hell would you want to take care of something like a demon? We eat those for sustenance. They are meant to become food for stronger demon beasts like us. Not to mention a baby! It isn't even aware of what is happening?!"

At that moment, whether intentionally or by instinct. Amari started crying.

"Look what you've done Felaud! You made him cry!"

"How is it my fault?! I only said the truth."

"Can't you just support me for once! I just wanted someone for our children to play with." Reida half-sobbed.

Felaud nudged closer to her and rubbed his snout against hers.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way. If that's what you want, I can raise him till he's big enough."

"Thank you Felaud,"

By this time Amari had stopped crying and realized that while everything was different about this world, people and beings with intelligence were basically the same. Although he doubted Felaud and Reida's feuds were as stupid as human couples , they still fought from time to time still.

"Hmph, but look at the little thing, it damaged your fur!"

"Just let it rest you silly thing."

Reida set down Amari on the floor and walked out of the cave, leaving him with Felaud.

"Don't try any nonsense, demon thing. I'm only doing this for Reida!"

Amari giggled.

Several blue screens popped up in front of Amari, startling him, and causing his body to cry violently.

Felaud panicked and appeared before him. He seemed more flustered than a man caught cheating by his wife.

The large wolf humanly fidgeted as he paced around Amari. He mumbled nonsense with a paranoid expression just as Reida entered the cave.

"What did you do now Felaud?!"

"Nothing, I swear. I was just sitting on my own when that thing started to cry!"

"Don't call him a thing!"

"Well, what should I call it? I don't know its name!"

"We'll figure that out later. Fix the situation!"

"I told you I didn't do anything!"

At this point, both were beyond exasperated at the other but neither knew what to do.

Meanwhile, Amari's mind gradually calmed and went from fear and shock to excitement and joy.

'A system that can coddle me and cater to my every whim! I should have known that I would get one!'

The cries of his body changed to laughs and giggles. Seeing this the wolf couple let out breaths of relief.

"I thought it would never stop," Felaud said in a brief absent-minded moment.

Reida gave him a glare and sat down next to Amari.

"I'm sorry," Felaud gave a very wide, sharp-toothed sheepish grin. "What do you think we should call him, though?"

Reida said nothing for a moment and looked into space, before finally looking at Amari and Felaud.

"Raion'shalang. Child of the Beast."
