4 Leaving the City

-- Gremory Gardwald Point of View--

The next hours from that I spent drawing with a stick on the ground while the wagons were loaded, the cargo became some basic provisions in the wagon I was at, like food and tools, from what looks like, these people did not attach to each other, because even when the time came to disband, everyone seems to be in a normal day of work, maybe in this few weeks, even without talking to them, I got more attached to this people than normal? Is it because I know nobody else? I need to ask Robert later, he probably knows the reason.

When everything was finished, Neywell went up a wooden bench and with everyone reunited, started speaking about the company.

"This has been a great time, we lost people during these two years, but even with that, we remain strong as ever, when we engage in battle I knew that I could count on every brother in shield that was by my side."

...

"Unfortunately, we all know where this is going, the war is over and with that, the band is too, for now at least... But I am not just going to kick you guys out, I am going to be a Captain of the city guard, and as everyone has seen, the city needs guards, so everyone who wants to keep working for me in the safety of the city walls can stay with me, the payment will be less, but at least you guys can have some peace, for those who reach rank C and want to join a guild of Lathrium, I will personally write a recommendation letter, noting your proper positions as war veterans, the same will be done for those who want to join the Imperial Army."

"Furthermore, Robert will take the lead of the village Tuska, but I imagine he has already talked to who will join him, so a leave to him decide."

The loud noise of people talking started right after Neywell got out of his chair, everyone started to form groups quickly, the major part of the band chose to remain on the city guard, the other party chose to join the Imperial Army, so they started preparing to leave the city in the direction of the borders, and just a few guys decided to join a guild.

Then Robert came by the wagon, with him was a woman with red hairs who wield a bow and other two men, one of them being something close to 6'3" (1.9 meters), who wields a size-door shield with a hammer just a little smaller than the shield, and the other guy wields a basic shield and a one-handed sword, the three of them was looking to have the same age of Robert, maybe other persons tired of war going to have some peace in the end...

"I want you to meet Fulgence Bowman (the guy with the size-door shield), Scullery Hugues (the guy with the basic shield), and Carine Arbalest (the red hair woman)" Said the old man.

I wave back to each of them.

"Is good to finally meet the person who everyone on the company keeps talking about." Said Carine.

"What? Everyone is talking about me? Why? I did nothing!"

"The cursed children who appeared from nowhere in the middle of a battlefield and has managed to survive the frontline, at least is what I heard..."

"There are also rumors that the soldiers around him have simply disappeared, leaving only the armor behind" Spoke the shield guy, Fulgence.

"Humpf.. Cursed children, I bet you are some kind of magic made by the nonhumans to kill we all" Scullery said.

"Scullery stop with that, he is just a child, no way he would do something like that, if there was any nonhuman mage in that battle then he would summon a monster, not a kid to the battlefield." Carina spoke with an angry face

"Well well, is just rumors, after all, people like to talk and when they are bored they also like to create stories, even if this child was some kind of magic made by the non-humans, he would have died already. Also, the summons must constantly receive mana from the summoner and I can't see any around, you can Scullery?" The old man spoke looking with a threatening look at Scullery.

"No... But he is also dying, look at him, thinner than a toothpick with completely colorless skin."

Then the shield guy who was quietly listening to everything lost his temper.

"STOP THIS ALREADY SCULLERY."

"I had enough, the only thing he needs is some physical activity to feel better, then the hungry will come, and he will be good as new, we will reach the village at the end of the day, but tomorrow morning I will bring him to hunt and that is it if you don't like you can stay as a city guard." Said the old man.

"I was just saying Robert, nothing more, if that what you want then I will trust you." Scullery spoke trying to calm everybody's nerves

"Good, so let's head to the city center before leaving the town, Gremory asked to be tested, then we can leave, I already load the wagon with provisions and some tools."

"... Thanks!" I said to everyone, except Scullery.

--At the city center--

In the city center, there were people of all ages in line to be tested, as Robert said, everyone can upgrade their rank one day.

"look kid, you have to go alone, but I will be right here, just go there and remain still, the evaluator have a mask that is able to evaluate, I am not sure how this works, but you really just need to remain still, and he will be able to tell your rank" Robert said to me.

"And if he lies to me?"

"Will also be written on a form, as you have not yet registered, they will give you a new one, but don't worry about losing, once you make your first registration, your information will be accessible in any city in the human's territory."

"They take it very seriously apparently."

"You don't have idea kid, just go already!" Said Scullery.

"I was going!"

'The line of people was very short, we must have been lucky for that, the city was quite busy as always, so with all this noise I couldn't hear what the evaluator was saying to the people ahead of me until it came to my turn, I walked in front of them and stayed put until he started talking.'

"No physical or magical skills, next!"
