1 Chapter 1

When most people think of power, they don't think about what it takes to keep said power or the consequences of having said power. I learned that the hard way.

----------------------------------------------------------

I was just an ordinary guy living alone in my home, watching TV and eating pizza happily minding my own business when a voice popped into my head, 'What would you do if you could do anything?'

I looked around my living room in confusion, wondering who's in my house. Before I could say anything, the same voice repeated the question, 'What would you do if you can create anything at will? Will you give humanity a cure to cancer?'

For some reason, I wasn't panicking or worried at all, which was weird. I didn't give it a thought, but I replied nonetheless, ''Nothing.''

'Nothing? Nothing at all? You won't make a cure for cancer? Help save the world? Go to a different world?'

"Nope. I could subtlety guide a scientist to make the formula for cancer and they would be the hero instead of me. I could give ideas to other people so they could save the world while I sleep in my newly created super comfy bed. As for the traveling part, don't feel like it." I told the voice.

Being a savior is too much work. I've read too many comics, movies, and anime to see that it wears them down. For example, in Superman Vs Batman, they're overjoyed that he can save them at first, but when something bad happens, they blamed him and wanted him gone.

"There is a famous quote that says it all,

"But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually, they will hate you. Why bother?" Norman Osborn / Green Goblin in Spiderman 2002."

The voice was silent and I shrugged my shoulders, "If I had power, I would just give the people a nudge and have them "discover" the cure themselves. After all, Christopher Reeves said it best, "I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

'So Be It.'

"Hmm? What does that mean?" I asked confused, but I received no response. I shrugged my shoulders going back to watching tv. What I didn't know was that the next morning, my life will be changed forever.
