1 CHAPTER 1

The teacher kept explaining the subject as the students were completely focused, but on the back of the class, Max not even once looked at him, all his attention was aimed towards his notebook where he kept writing non-stop. Every day was like this, he stopped bothering with his studies quite some time ago because of how bad his performance is, no matter how much he tried to study it didn't work for him.

Was there any need to waste his time studying anyway? He was stupid and no amount of hard work would change that, since he would have to follow the footsteps of his parents and enter the army one day, he might as well focus on his hobby of writing.

Since he was a child this was his favorite activity, he spent hours writing almost every kind of story, although he thought that all were horrible in a way, they had many cliches and were saturated genres that were highly criticized, such as isekai, reincarnation, OP protagonists, etc.

He thought about publishing them, but ... would anyone really like it? He was afraid of criticism, he was afraid of what people would think of his work, especially when he is someone who reads as many books as he can, and even more so the web novels, which are his favorites considering he didn't have enough money to pay to read, after all, he was practically broke and all the money he earned from his parents was already used for food, housing, etc.

But the main thing is, he knew exactly what everyone disliked, but what could he do when he actually liked those things? 'Okay, I get it, you don't like those cliches face slapping protagonists, but I do!' that was one of his answers to a guy that gave a bad review to one of his favorites wuxia web novel.

He wasn't special in any way, and he ended up accepting this harsh truth, he would never be able to write something that he liked, because it was sure to become a failure.

"... There are two more years to go, Maxwell, don't think too much about what you could be, better focus on what you will be." He muttered under his breath as he read through the short story he just finished writing.

His eyes sneakily glanced to the left where a beautiful girl was taking notes of the teacher explanation, she was Selene Phillips, a girl who he had fallen in love almost five years ago when he was eleven. He first met her when he entered junior high school, and ever since he had always admired her, she was hard-working, talented, beautiful, and gentle, which meant he would never get the chance to ask her out, and even if he did it was guaranteed she would refuse him.

The story he had just written was basically a parallel version of his own life, it was one where he was an extremely talented guy, that could learn basically anything extremely easily that managed to make her his girlfriend.

He snorted while thinking about such a thing, wish-fulfillment stories, those were basically the most common ones he is used to writing, they were all about the things he wanted to be, but that it is impossible for him.

Sighing he touched his notebook and closed it, there was no point in keeping writing for now, if the teacher noticed he would be scolded.

However, when he was about to put his notebook in his backpack, he felt something weird coursing through his body almost like electricity.

"What the hell?" He shook his head and panted heavily, for some reason he felt really tired and dizzy. Sweat started pouring down on his face as his vision blurred and weird things fleshed on his field of view, he only managed to get a glimpse of what looked like a screen with a few words before falling unconscious on the ground: [Ini####ing Th# Wr#ter'# Wish ##lfilm#nt S##tem!]

...

When he woke up, all he could see was the white ceiling of what seemed to be the hospital wing of his school.

He stood up and looked around only to find two people in the room looking at some documents, a man and a woman, both wearing a doctor coat, the man noticed him and sighed.

"Maxwell Kennet, right?"

Max nodded but remained silent.

"You know Maxwell, you shouldn't work too much, if you stay long periods of time without resting you could end up having a heart attack." He threw him a bottle with some pills.

"Eat one of those per day for 3 days and please, don't tire yourself so much anymore. You can stay here and rest or go to your classroom."

Having said that, the doctor stopped talking to him and turned to his documents.

Max could only gulp at his words and sigh, he didn't even bother answering him because he couldn't even understand what the hell happened to him. What was that screen he saw before losing consciousness, and how did the doctors interpret that as extreme fatigue...

Just as he thought about that a screen appeared in front of him.

Seeing that thing he almost screamed, he couldn't believe his eyes, in fact, he actually thought he had gone nuts! All those years writing wish-fulfillment stories truly messed up his head and now he had lost his sanity!

'Oh my fucking God ...' He cried silently on the bed. 'Now I'm seeing things, what's next? Will an angel and a little devil appear on each of my shoulders and try to influence my decisions?'

He closed his eyes and prayed that thing would disappear when he opened them again, and after a few seconds, when he opened his eyes, he sighed in relief. Indeed, the screen wasn't there anymore, there was no such thing as a miraculous system helping him.

He stood up and after thanking both the doctors for taking care of him, he went to the classroom.

Once he arrived, he directly went to his seat and ignored everyone's gaze, it wasn't like he had anything to tell them. The teacher gulped and said.

"Alright everyone, focus on the subject, can't you see your colleague is fine? Don't need to worry about him now."

The students sighed with a bored and expression and reluctantly turned away from Maxwell.

Max silently thanked his teacher and tried to pay attention to the class, he decided to stop writing for some time, he didn't want to become crazy when he was just 16 years old...

At first, everything was like usual, but he was gladly surprised when he noticed that the subject didn't seem to be as difficult as he thought it would be, could it be that him passing out somehow enlightened his teacher making him going on step further in the art of teaching?

Yeah, that was most likely the case here, there was no way he would get better at learning, haha...

But then as time passed and even after the teachers changed and he could still learn what they were teaching he became anxious, he couldn't-no, he didn't want to believe that he was learning easier than before. Maybe when he fell unconscious, he hit his head and that somehow made his brain better than before, there was no way a System was helping him.

But then, an annoying sound drifted into his ears coupled with a notification screen.

[Congratulations! Fast learner increased to level two! You got 1 System experience point: 1/100]

Seeing that he froze... it was real, he somehow got his hands on a System without any explanation, the thing just popped out of nowhere. 'This is... Fucking amazing! Oh dear God! Could it be that I'm really a protagonist instead of a side character in the background?! I'm so lucky!'
