12 Chapter 8: Scripturient's Competition Qualifiers!

APRIL 3, 2020

It was 10 AM in the morning, I had a good sleep and a good quiet night. I got out of my dumpster and yawned, I saw a bunch of clothes and a bag with a lot of chips and water that is placed right beside my dumpster. I walked towards it and grabbed the note.

I grabbed the paper and started to read it, "Congratulations, Great_XiaoCheng! You have published chapter 43 of Unsolved Case Felicia, you can now have 3 days break with these rewards. Be sure to join the Event Announcement! Have a nice day-TSL."

"Oh, I forgot that I even had a reward after writing 2000 words. I looked at the contents inside of the small bag.

I put it in the dumpster and realized that there was an Event Announcement around 1 PM. I grabbed my phone in my pockets to check the time, It was still 10:21 AM. Few drops of water fell on my shoulder, I looked up--it was raining. I quickly undressed my top and take a shower using the rain, I looked up and let the raindrops hit my face.

"I guess I'll just listen to the Event later this afternoon," I said to myself.

It was 11:15 AM that the rain stops, I grabbed my dry new clothes in my dumpster and changed my clothing. I felt refreshed as if I was at home again, I quickly went back to my dumpster and was curious what's inside the mini bag, I grabbed it and saw a note near the zip of the bag.

"Great_XiaoCheng! To open, put the bag down on the ground and unzip it to form a big tent"

I looked around and put the bag beside the dumpster, my eyes widened as a sudden big tent assemble as I unzipped the bag.

I whistled, amazed. I quickly checked out the inside and it had a gaming console with games in it, I sat in the tent and started playing games. Writers like me need to have a chilling time.

APRIL 4, 2020

12:48 PM

With the sound of the raindrops drumming on top of my tent, I quickly grabbed my light yellow colored-hoodie on the bag. There was also the logo of the writer's community that I joined in, The Scripturient's League. There is also a brown sloth icon on the back of my hoodie that has my embroidered pen name on the center. Suits me due to the fact that I laze around if I'm not writing and not writing at all.

The atmosphere made me want to sleep, I stopped playing and tried to take a nap, my phone ping as if a new notification appeared. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check the notification.

"11 MINUTES BEFORE EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT STARTS. CLICK THE LINK TO JOIN"

My eyes widened, I quickly sit up in my tent and clicked on the link. I grabbed a bag of chips on the bag as I'm directed to the link. There was a sudden notification again.

--Great_XiaoCheng! You can project your videos on the screen. To enable this feature, open the video and swipe it up! Enjoy---

I swipe up my phone screen and the hologram screen appeared with the live stream video.

fictionbabe: exciteddd for today's event!

TheGreatWriter: hello!

Indieauthor: OMG, @TheGreatWriter, you're joining?

007Code: hello!

http:edgy_write: hi everyone, shamelessly promoting! Read my "Edgy me"

TheGreatWriter: @Indieauthor, Hello, indie. yeah. What genre are you writing right now?

Jack_Pendragon: hello

Indieauthor: Fantasy Romance. How's your book?

Cheun_is_cute: When will it start?

TheGreatWriter: @Indieauthor, great! A lot of people add it in their library and got a reward from being a top writer of the week.

Jixyyjinx: Y'allll better read my story, "Reader's Life ". Votes are appreciated!

Aspiring_JKRowling: What would be the theme of today's competition?

Justpeachy: On their notification, it said qualifiers.

TheGreatWriter: @Justpeachy the announcement made me curious too.

Chats appeared as I'm waiting on the live stream, few writers and authors join. I hovered my eyes on the side of the screen, there were 18k people watching the stream.

The Scripturient's League logo--the writing community where I wrote my stories is on screen, I looked at the time. 1 Minute before the stream starts.

I eat my chips as the stream started, I grabbed my hologram headphones to listen to the stream.

A brown loose wavy-haired woman around mid-20s is on the screen, smiling. A text appeared under the woman, "Karyle Ashmore"

Chief Editor of The Scripturient's League

"Good day, everyone! I'm Karyle Ashmore, your editor-in-chief of The Scripturient's League. Today, we are very pleased to announce an event. We all knew that The Scripturient's League always held an event once a year, where one of you would get rewards. Before I dived into the main topic, our CEO would like to give a message. "

The camera switch to a man with light blonde hair appeared in front of the screen, he looked at the papers in front of him and put them aside. He rests his hand on the table.

"Good day, everyone!"

A text appeared under the man, its reads, "Aku Shinichi"

CEO of The Scripturient's League. "I'm Aku Shinichi, the founder of The Scripturient's League"

"The Scripturient's League is an app and a website where all writers, readers partake in this community. For 3 years, I see the company grew and thank you all for joining and decide to be part of The Scripturient's League. I highly encourage writers to join today's event, I knew that all of you have the creativity to make a world and have the magic to connect it to the readers. I wish all writers good luck with this event. Thank you"

And the camera immediately switches to Karyle Ashmore, "Thank you for that message, our very own CEO of The Scripturient's League."

"I'm sure a lot of you are very excited to share your new books filled with so much imagination and I'm also very excited to share with you, guys that we will be having another yearly event."

I forgot that they always have an event but I don't usually participate due to the lack of motivation that makes me laze around, its been a while that I tried to join any event that The Scripturient's League offers.

"As we all knew, The Scripturient's League have an event last year and today is our 5th: Write it-- Scripturient's Competition Qualifiers! I'd like to tell you the rules, requirements upon your entries on this competition" Karyle grabbed a paper nearby and looked at it.

"First, about the genre and the theme. The main theme of this competition is "Starting Point"." Karyle said, I read the chats.

Pagesthetic: Interesting!

IamShea: Great theme!

Magician's_Word: love The Scripturient's League theme this year!

Tetsu-kun: The theme is interesting enough!

"I'd like to encourage every writer to write what is their interpretation of "Starting Point". Be creative as you can be. All genre such as Fantasy, Romance, Science-Fiction, Slice of life, etc is allowed. Anything explicit is automatically disqualified. "

Karyle flipped the paper, her eyes on it.

"And now for the entry chapter requirement, you will need to give us 5 chapters. Only 5 chapters that have a total of 3k words each chapter. Overall, you have to write 15k words"

Indieauthor: Whatttt?!!

fictionbabe: It takes me two days to write 2k words in one chapter.

http:edgy_write: @fictionbabe same

Karyle just ignored the chats, "If your entry has a minimum of 10k words will be instantly disqualified."

TheGreatWriter: Okay but what are the judging criteria?

"For the criteria, the content quality such as plot is interesting enough. We wouldn't care about your writing style, every writer has their own way of writing. The character's emotion and design and the world background are interesting enough for us, The Scripturient's League Editors, and much better if it could hook us. We would also leave feedback. Now for the rules"

"The rules are simple. Your entries must be English and original, reach the word count requirement, and submit them before the deadline. Plagiarism is not allowed. If you get caught teaming up with another writer and doing collabs, you will be instantly disqualified."

Tetsuki_032: When is the deadline for the entries? Was it the same before?

"Great question! Sadly, no. You will be given a week for the entry and The Scripturient's League will decide who will be qualified. To know if you are qualified, we will send a notification or an email. Once you are qualified, you will have opportunities that could help you to be part of the official writers of The Scripturient's League"

Pagesthetic: A week seems not to be enough.

fictionbabe: That is toooo much. It's kind of unfair that the one who'll be qualified will have opportunities that could help the writers to be part of the official writers of The Scripturient's League.

Indieauthor: I agree with @fictionbabe. Last year, you only decide who will be the next top writer and give us a big amount of time. There was no qualified or not. And what about those writers that are disqualified and haven't meet the judging criteria?

"If you are not qualified, we will still help you gain your readers and encourage you to take the next event."

IamShea: You never held a competition like this in the past, you usually do competition and give us a big amount of time.

"We thought that among you have the potential to be one of the top writers, we are helping everyone by giving you this event--to smooth your writing skills by competing with talented writers. Please don't be discourage for we are only just helping you"

TheGreatWriter: Thank you, Karyle!

cloudywrites: Thank you, I'll try on this event!

purple_authorwrites: Too risky but guess I'll try since this could help me to be one of the top writers in The Scripturient'sLeague.

"Amateur writer, professional writer-We highly encourage you all to partake in this event. Wish you all good luck, writers! We gave you all a three days break to chill. We will send the details and reminders right after this stream! We can't wait to read your entries! That's all for today's streaming announcement, thank you!"

And the stream has ended.
